Things Are Shaping Up to Be Pretty Odd
As of May 10th, the mana pools on Ensō and its islets will now allow for travel to Io. Though you could always opt for sailing, if you wanted. As we mentioned on the island's introductory post, no exploration is necessary! The island is small enough and easily traversed, and with a minimum of dangers, you have plenty of time to visit each of Io's six draws.

The temple is the easiest place to get in touch with the local avatar, though you can contact them just as easily by striking up a conversation with just about any honeybee you see in the vicinity. The lazy drone of them can be heard all over the island, though they're quite complacent, and not at all prone to disturbing adventurers. The temple itself is twined with grapevines and smothered with inlays of rubies, proud and sparkling. Inside, it smells of honey and wine, and seems to exhibit a naturally contented glow. Just outside, numerous fruit trees sprout all about the temple's courtyard, to be sampled at your leisure.

The bathhouses are located just south of the temple, and are prime locations for some rest and relaxation. Bathe, swim, take a spa day! There are innumerable rooms to do exactly that, and more space than be reasonably filled by some sixty-or-seventy people. Or maybe you're interested in getting absolutely sloshed instead. The vineyard is perfect for that, located to Io's northeast on one of its long, tapering peninsulas. Rows upon rows of grapevines lead up to the crown jewel of the region: a proud winery with enough goods to satisfy even the most parched.

For those less keen on mind-altering substances, the tea gardens are a far safer bet. They practically emanate tranquility, with their soft paper lanterns, thickets of tea trees, and a tea room with a seemingly endless supply of every supplement to your drink that you could ask for. And if none of the teabags or tea leaves in there suit your preference, you're free to wander about the gardens yourself and sample whatever you like.

The Honeycomb at the island's heart is much more akin to a play structure or jungle gym than anything else, but its interlocking passageways and erratic, hexagonal architecture aren't for nothing. It's an ideal spot for play or exercise, if you're into that kind of thing - or for getting positively sick on honey sticks.

The campsites ensure that you don't truly have to depart from Io, if you don't want to. Tents full of chairs and cushions and blankets make it a wonderful place to spend the night if you're so inclined, and the lockers full of food and drink are assurances that you won't go hungry. And with all these massive bonfires and firework cannons, why would you ever want to leave?

[It's Nebby that wants to visit the baths and splash about in the shallower sections, but who is Lillie to deny her friend a good time on this island seemingly made for having a good time? She sits at the edge of a large, public bath with her bare feet dangling in the warm waters. It feels good to get the dirt and grime off, to work out the soreness of constant wandering that she didn't realize was there until it began to fade. Nebby is never too far, wading back and forth and looking for all the world like a cotton ball made of stardust floating in the bath.

Lillie lets her friend have it's fun. She occupies herself with a small collection of sample bottles of oil from the gardens, smelling each one and trying to decide which one she'd like to dab on her wrists and neck as a perfume. It won't last forever, but it's nice to smell nice, you know? The scents she's selected so far are honeysuckle, rose, cloves, and vanilla. They all smell fantastic and it's very difficult to choose just one. Maybe if she mixes them? But no more than two, or it would be overpowering...

All that is, however, pretty preoccupying, so if Nebby's splashing about gets too enthusiastic and winds up watering people nearby, she won't notice right away.]

ii. tea

[When Nebby has had it's fun and grows tired of splashing about, Lillie dries it off and carries it southward, towards the heady aroma of what must surely be some sort of garden. And she's right - it's the tea gardens, and she is immediately in heaven. It's easy to figure out which plant is which, for the most part. She's read so much about teas, flowers, and medicinal herbs that this is sort of like a living guidebook for her. Some she isn't terribly familiar with and she avoids those because she doesn't know how to handle them. Surely nothing here is poisonous, but she'd hate to waste these lovely and robust leaves on her inexperience.

You can find her at the center, sitting with Nebby in her lap and holding an unusual mug filled with a deep amber liquid. Lillie's eyes are closed as she sways back and forth, almost trance-like, beneath the light of one of the lanterns. Between the way the lantern's light catches in her hair and the light breeze that plays at the loose edges of her short sleeves and capris, she seems almost like a little fae creature - unearthly and covered in fluttery bits of clothing. Serenity hasn't found her like this in a long, long while.

She's humming softly, if you get close enough to hear. Something familiar to her, it seems.]

iii. campsite

[And when night falls, she brings a fresh cup of tea up to a tent in the camp area, eyes half-lidded with contentment. She deserves this, she thinks. After everything. After everyone. Nebby sleeps soundly in it's bag, for once. Tuckered out from playing all day in the water and among the tea hedges. You may come across a half-finished cup of tea next to a pile of pillows and, curled up in the pile with her bags surrounding her like a protective wall, a young blonde girl.

She seems only half-asleep, occasionally muttering or stretching or repositioning herself. It's just nice to close her eyes and relax. Lillie might not be entirely coherent if you strike up a conversation - she's sleepy and relaxed and really just blissed out - but she won't turn you away, either.]

[ Having hot water again is a luxury they didn't realise they'd missed. Maybe the next thing they should do is ask the Storyteller if they have books for making hot baths somehow.

For now, they're choosing not to think about daily life on Enso or any of that, especially when there's friends to play with. They paddle over to Nebby, entirely content to swim alongside them, cloak trailing in the water.

After a moment, they trail over to Lillie, poking their head up and over the side of the pool like the world's oddest seal, attempting to get her attention with a polite tug at her dress. Is she going to swim, too? ]

There was something about the island that put Tachibana on edge.

The drone in the background was mild, but ever present; a soft, ever present feeling on the edge of his senses that was a little too close to the heavy presence that came with Isaka's voice.

The architecture of the island was deeply familiar-- yet at the same time not. The differences between Roman style and the Greek structures that Galen had lived around being subtle enough to infuse the entire place with the sense of wrongness, laced with the memories and emotions that Galen's life had left with him. The hedonistic air clashed horribly with the echoes of that life, Galen's disdain for those of his own kind and those like them who chased after life's pleasures with no regard for life and responsibility only cementing the growing distrust.

And the vineyards... Selene's plant had born grape-like fruits, hadn't it? Ones that carried with it the ambrosia of the gods... that lead to any mortal's blood slowly becoming tainted with ichor and cursed with immortality.

That, mixed with what Shion had told him of the island of dreams that had trapped his friends, left Tachibana with a miasma of memories, worries and paranoid anger, a stark contrast to the seemingly carefree, lackadaisical air around him.

He's barely on the island for 20 minutes, trailing after a far more excited and enthused Garren before he picks up the small creature and starts heading back to the pools with a very intense air.

Whatever is going on on that island... he wants no part of it.

The Knight, on the other hand, has absolutely no idea what this human's current thoughts are and is just intrigued to see a creature that's about their size, for once.

So, they approach with clear curiosity, and without fear. This is about the time that Tachibana picks up Garren and starts heading back, much to their disappointment, so they follow after him and attempt to catch his attention with some very enthusiastic arm-waving. Or, failing that, Garren's attention. Either will do.

[These tubs are huge, clean, and , better than any he's seen in decades. The bees seem to be encouraging him, not chasing him off--that's good. Odds are it's going to lead to something horrific happening... another volcano erupting, the bees going on a killing spree, an asteroid hitting the island, something. There's a trickle of unease in the back of his mind, always. It's not just him, no one seems to get to have nice things.

But for now, he's having a good long soak. The goofy t-shirt and his precious hat are safe outside the tub, and he did get a good wash in earlier. (It doesn't make him look any less dingy and yellowed.) The water is very, very warm in a way he can actually feel... it feels so good to have something supporting his bones...

He drifts off. And slides down. All the way to the bottom of the tub. He keeps right on doing some mockery of breathing, hair drifting in the current, and does not wake up, though he does mutter a little occasionally during less pleasant dreams. Yum, skeleton soup!]

[He has his shirt off again, bare ribs out there for the world to see. He has a stupid grin on his face. And... he has sparklers. Just sparkles--not fireworks, he could have fireworks. This has bad idea written all over it, doesn't it? No wonder his bones are trashy.]

[Y'know, if it were anyone other than Hector this would be pretty alarming, but as it is? That's probably fine. And also it's kind of funny.

Ginko rolls up the legs of his pants and sits down at the edge of the tub, letting his legs dangle in the water, and... honestly, mostly just waits for Hector to wake up. He would want to try nudging him a little, but he supposes most people probably wouldn't be thrilled about being woken up by a weird monster foot.]

[The temple is the first place Genji finds, and it’s a place he’s drawn to. It puts him at peace the same way the Shambali monastery does - it’s hard to be tense in a place so welcoming and warm. There’s a smile on his face, hidden beneath a veneer of metal, and he finds himself wandering the grounds and entertaining swarms of bees.

And, of course, picking from the fruit trees littering the grounds. He holds an apple in his hand and then -]

[Tossing it your way, once he’s got your attention.]

[He can always go for a spot of tea. He makes himself at home in the gardens, and finds himself relaxing. It’s nostalgic, in a way, and he can always appreciate a good bit of tea. More so now, that he can appreciate how it’s made and how it’s brought into the world.

He can be found lounging about, visor removed. The skin on his face is scarred and marred, with his jaw being completely made of smooth metal. It doesn’t seem to impact him, though, as he’s still calmly sipping on tea.]

[There's not a lot of times that Connor uses his relative athleticism, but for someone who looks like he's never done a single sport in his entire life, he catches the apple easily. If you play baseball for long enough and you get good enough, then it becomes muscle memory to catch things that are thrown at you. He kind of just stares at the apple once he's caught it, though.

It's nothing to do with Genji, he's just got weird associations with apples.]

It's a regular garden of Eden here. [Connor tucks the apple into his bag instead of eating it.] Not sure how I should feel about that after some of the other islands we've seen.

The Honeycomb

[Most of the playground equipment in her original world was rusted and broken down beyond any kind of repair-overgrown with foliage and home to unfriendly wildlife and ghosts. She didn't get an opportunity to play on it, despite desperately wanting to.

So this time, she doesn't even hesitate. With seemingly endless energy, she maneuvers around on the slides, doing very little traditional sliding, but certainly seems happy with every 'I'm surfing!' as she balances down the fixtures, sometimes falling, sometimes sticking the land, and 100% okay with whatever tumble as she goes to the next area.

At different points, you can find her huddling in tunnels, drawing intricate, horrible drawings inside the tubes, surfing down slides, shoving honeysticks in her pockets, and taking naps on top of monkey bars. Because nothing says comfortable like metal rods against your ribcage.

And if you aren't inside the weird hexagon catacombs already, as soon as she exits the playground maze, she'll try to drag your character inside. That's just how it be.]

Campsites

[It wasn't her intention to commandeer a tent, but that's what happened. In a short period of time, she has created an incredible blanket fort, with fabrics laying over chairs and pillows propped up to create imaginary borders. It's pretty big. She's had a lot of unsupervised time to create this humble masterpiece and she's been singing little tunes about the moon and stars as she does so.

So when someone walks by, she asks, with a honeystick clutched in one grubby hand and a piece of chalk in the other, she whispers-]

[ The Knight is meandering contentedly through the tunnels, in no rush to exit; they're big enough to walk through comfortably, and the golden light reminds them of a hive filled with significantly more bees. It had been peaceful enough there; one of the few things in Hallownest that struck them as more beautiful than sad.

They come across some of Ren's drawings in the tunnels, and settle down to do some drawing of their own. In her wanderings through the maze, she's sure to find her art again - and her friend, busily sketching away without a care in the world. ]

[It's been days of searching and searching and searching to no avail. None of her sisters have shown up, her disciple is still out of her grasp and even her kids didn't make through whatever funky time/space trap this is.

Thinking too hard on it makes her depressed and that's never been good for her. It's too difficult to shake off without Cent around to help her through it, so avoiding it? That's best.

But still, she can't hep to think about this is something her sister Five would enjoy. Alcohol and lounge areas as far as the eye can see. She'll have to remember to bring her here someday.

Which is, again, another thought for another day, as she leans further into the water, enjoying that nice, nice steam.]

It feels good to kick back, you know? Nothing like a nice bath after a loooong day. I could just fall asleep right now.

Tea gardens

[Somewhere, your character might hear the crunching, crackly sound of a paper lantern being, seemingly, wadded up.

And it'd be easy to assume that she intentionally did something to the now torn up paper ball, shaking the slight burn from her hand with an erratic wave to the side. Except for how apologetic she looks. Because she knows better than to handle delicate things like this, no matter how careful she tries to be. It doesn't matter, when her hands pull doors off hinges with the slightest touch and it takes every ounce of concentration to not shatter cups in her hands while she drinks.

She knew better and yet, it looked-it was just so pretty!! And Cent's not around to grab things for her-to let her know how durable certain unknown items are, so if anyone sees her commit this lantern crime, they'll be met with a-]

I'm sorry! Really really really really sorry! I'll replace it, I swear! I can make you some cookies? I know a really good recipe with ogre lard-I'll go find some!

[After the unmitigated shitshow that last month had become, Ardyn knew better than to trust something quite so nice on the surface. But, on the other hand, he had reached critical levels of not giving a single fuck. If the whole island went up in flames or did all manner of humiliating things to his memories, so be it. Ardyn was thoroughly tired of giving a damn, especially when there were better things to immediately concern himself with.]

[Don't mind the apparently scrawny ancient evil just slowly sinking up to his neck if someone looked at him for a little too long, like he had something to hide. Considering it was likely the first time he'd been out in the open without the million layers he usually wore, maybe he did.]

[Most people would very likely be concerned about having the reputation of 'that guy sneaking wine bottles into his coat' at the average gathering.]

[Ardyn was not most people.]

[So, while he was milling about and minding his own business drinking, it was possible a bottle or two just straight up disappeared while he was in reach of it. Completely normal, surely. One never knew when something like that might come in handy later.]

[It has been a long time since Jon got to have an actual bath. The showers in the institute were adequate, and they wee lucky to have them, but the offer of a bathhouse was too good to ignore.

He is a little disappointed to find someone already in there when he arrives, but he'll make do. He sits on the edge of the pool and waits until the last possible moment to pull off his shirt and slides down into the water as far as he can because he is, frankly, a mess of weird scars and he'd never been that comfortable with people seeing him naked before those. Can't do much about the worm scars on his neck and the couple on his face, but they're easier to overlook.

He does offer a somewhat awkward smile to the other man, who looks like he's got the same idea in mind.]

A: Temple

[The island that lay before Pyrrha once she arrives is a bit far from what she pictured in her mind; not in a bad way, it's... surprisingly peaceful here. Almost immediately, Pyrrha was hit with all sorts of scents, like honey, and grapes, and incense.

And the temple.

Something about the grand building's style, adorned with so many jewels, reminded her oddly of some homes in Vale. A bit gaudy, but pretty all the same.

As it is, she takes a seat near the entrance to the temple. Sitting cross-legged, gaze turned to the fields she'd just searched for some of the fruit that now rested in her lap. She bit into one, found it to her liking, and continued munching thoughtfully.

She's waiting for the other show to drop, sure. But right now, it's okay. She'll even hold out some fruit to anyone who comes by, offering it with a small smirk.]

B: Bathhouse

[Something about this place, again, strikes a chord in Pyrrha, but she can't be sure why. Might be the aesthetic. She can really dig it.

Public bathhouses, while surprisingly common across worlds, weren't Pyrrha's favorite thing in all of them. Then again, actual baths in a whole building designed for them! The island could explode in half a month's time, and she wouldn't be bothered by it. Not that much, anyway, because how often will she receive a chance like this?

You'll catch her in one of the larger bath-pools, in one of the swimsuits supplied by the building. She's... doing laps, it seems. Swimming deftly to one side of the deep end, pushing herself off the wall, and continuing to the other side. Upon noticing that she isn't the only person in the water, she'll slow down to a stop.]

Oh, doesn't this just feel wonderful?

[Zidane was about to head inside when he sees Pyrrha offer him the apple. He is taken a little by surprise but smiles all the same.] Wow. I'm not hungry but thanks, cutie!

[Is it any wonder Tim's ended up here, between the fire and the fireworks? The party atmosphere of the entire island doesn't agree with him, entirely - he's much too introverted to really go wild the way this place seems designed to encourage him to. Can't drink, trying to cut back on smoking, and it seems like this is a recipe for an island that Tim won't very much enjoy visiting.]

[But the campsites...those are a little more up his alley.]

[Right away, Tim lays claim to one of the red-colored tents, in case anyone he knows and likes comes along with a need for somewhere to rest.]

[Then he gets to work.]

[Connor called him the "dad friend," when they were both kids. He may as well start fulfilling the stereotype.]

[Come the evening, Tim has set up a makeshift grill over one of the roaring bonfires, cooking slabs of meat and sticks of vegetables, an unlit cigarette held delicately between his teeth. While the food is browning, he settles one of the firework cannons down and aims it out over the ocean water. After a few minute adjustments, he lets the sparks fly.]

[And the dark evening sky erupts into swirls of color and smoke.]

ii. tea gardens ; though i don't wanna waste forever

[He's never been a huge tea drinker. Not Tim. The minds he's shared, though - he knows there's something therapeutic about making it. His headaches have started to increase as he's starting to smoke less and less, a strained effort that he doesn't expect to succeed. So: caffeine it is.]

[The amount of choice is overwhelming. You might find Tim standing in front of one of the jars of leaves with his brow furrowed, eyes shut, as though concentrating on a mental picture in his head. In a manner of speaking, he is. He's trying to sort his memories from someone else's. Two someones, actually.]

[Or you might find him with a shitty novelty mug of steaming tea - black, with cinnamon, orange, and cloves, for the curious - roaming the gardens themselves, studying certain leaves with the eye of someone intent on taking at least a few of these back to the islets with him.]

[That smells nice. Zidane isn't hungry but he thinks but he sees Tim crouch down to set one up and stops to observe. And when the fireworks go off, he approaches Tim, giving an impressed smile.] Hey! You got all this out and even set up some food? Nice!

[Anything worth exploring is, naturally, going to get the Drifter's attention. They weave throughout the twisting, hexagonal corridors with a resolve that doesn't quite match the structure's goal as an object of play.]

[The honeysticks, of course, are ignored utterly. Prizes they might be, they are not the Drifter's focus. They occasionally open their sprite's HUD to input information, then turn another corner and continue, updating something on its translucent, midair interface all the way.]

[It's a map. A map, in progress, of the entire Honeycomb.]

[They're not about to let an island geared toward relaxation slow them down, or sway them from doing things, completely unnecessarily. Someone should map this place out, shouldn't they? It's just that the geometry makes it difficult...and it's so easily disorienting...]

[Looks like they'll be at this for a while.]

ii. temple ; i don't care if we're talking about the same things

[Naturally, they need a moment to pay their respects to the local entity. They would never presume to encroach upon the deity's space uninvited, or to strike up a conversation apropos of nothing. Instead, they settle for kneeling just inside the temple, in front of the Standing Stone, for an unreasonably long time, eyes closed.]

[It's possible that they're praying.]

[Given that this is the longest rest the Drifter has allowed themself in a good long while - piety is the only excuse for rest, as it seems.]

(Legion is of the opinion of that if you're enjoying yourself then the structure is, in fact, serving its purpose, but that's neither here nor there.

Right now, more importantly, they're sprawled in an awkward and convoluted position somewhere in the tunnels, and quite oblivious to what's going on around them due to distraction via tiny handheld device, on which they are currently playing videogames.

i. bathhouses ; how our short little lives haven't left the path that they will tread

[The trust of a new island is thin, given the eventual state of the last one. But here, thankfully, there aren't any mountains or volcanoes to be found.]

[It only really takes the promise of the fruit trees up near the temple for Wash's helmet to be unsealed and nestled in the grass beside him as he turns a peach between gloved fingers. Some part of him, the part that grew up on Earth, still regards fresh fruit as a luxury and treasures it when it becomes available to him. That's enough to prompt his interest in venturing toward the bathhouses, and...when's he gonna get the chance to do this again, now, really?]

[He hasn't had a bath in...literally years. Freelancer was a step up from typical military life thanks to the Mother of Invention's showers and lockers, but it's not like you could ever just settle down with a book and a bath bomb. Wash is certain to leave his armor back at the house before returning to take advantage of the warm, slightly frothy waters of one of the baths.]

[Anyone who passes him by might notice the scars that stand out with unavoidable prominence along the heavily freckled expanse of his back - entire swathes of skin that have been reduced to a Braille of keloid and scar tissue, interlocking lumps of raised skin. It's almost impossible to overlook the shrapnel scars, old gunshot wounds, irregular spatters of discolored skin that sprout across the dark olive-brown of his back, chest, and shoulders. The most inescapable and obvious, and one of the few he can't easily hide, is the raised lump along the back of his neck, stretching from the base of his skull to the top of his spine.]

[Even in a place designed for relaxation, Wash can't seem to simply settle down and do that. Slowly, methodically, he starts to scrub at the layers of dirt and sweat and dead skin that have caked over his pores.]

[Of course, if someone walks in on this, he might tense up. There's an inherent vulnerability to being mostly unclothed - he has retained his boxers for this very reason - that draws his shoulders up and stiffens the muscles in his back. His eyes will dart, automatically, to one of the bathrobes he's taken and laid to rest on a near bench. He could take the modesty in retrieving his clothes or leave it; it's just that the robe is where he's concealed his sidearm.]

ii. winery ; make that happiness last

[Getting drunk is generally a bad idea. He's done it here exactly once, and the resulting conversation with Connecticut wasn't worth the hangover that followed him into the following day. But there are other reasons one might have to drink. To avoid thinking about the previous month, for example.]

[It takes Wash only a few hours to find what he's looking for down here, which is a few bottles of spiced rum. He's not big on the heavy drinking, but he remembers someone else who was.]

[He uncorks one in one of the tasting lounge areas and holds it up to the empty air.]

Here's to you, Illinois. Hope you found that island chain.

Tex has wandered a bit around the island, refusing any wine or tea, or anything else that she might have been offered to eat or drink. This reminds her too much of the party planet the Moira had encountered, and she especially doesn't trust it after the way people reacted to the Youngdrink that was offered by the Roaka last month. But the Honeycomb seems like an interesting enough place. She needs to work out anyway. And as long as she avoids eating any of the honey, it should be okay. She runs and jumps and dodges the obstacles, working herself out until she's tired. When she is, she finds a place to sit and rest for a while, then goes for another circuit around the space.

When evening comes she decides to hang out where everyone else is, wandering into the campsites and taking a look at each person's face as they sit around the various campfires. Everything looks so nice and comfortable. She hates being a wet blanket. But it just strikes her as incredibly foolhardy to eat anything stored here. Sooner or later she'll have to make her way back to Enso in order to eat.

But for now she just seeks a familiar face, someone to hopefully commiserate with, and when she finds Bucky she thinks she has found her mark.

Kravitz is dubious about simply accepting anything on these islands- considering the last time someone gave people alcohol half of them ended up under a mountain, and other such gifts have been... well, dicey, anything handed to him in this manner seems too good to be true. But once everyone seems to be relaxing, he's finding it in himself to make an attempt. After all, they've had calm islands before- Harv ended up not being a bait and switch, so perhaps they're overdue for something kind.

Or at least, he can drink until he stops worrying. Sort of.

He's at the bartop, looking like he's trying his own sampling, a half dozen glasses out as he sips. For once, Kravitz actually looks... pretty dignified, which is surprising for anyone who might actually know him. But more than that, he just looks content.

But somewhere along the line step three turned into ???? and step four became "oh no" and now there's a firework canon spinning around as it unloads into the sky. It's very loud. He's just standing there staring at it like he's lost all control of his life.]

The idea of this big, sprawling land and the sight of the grapes makes her skin crawl, even if it doesn't belong to her terrible goddamn parents. They've been on her mind too much since last month when she was right back in her mindset, so she goes over there with the idea of setting some of it on fire just as stress relief.

What she finds is... something else.

She can be found crouched down, very carefully inspecting a plant that does not look like it belongs in a winery, and thankfully not shoving it directly in her mouth like last time when she accidentally ate poison ivy. Don't make her choices, kids. Learn like adults.

For once though, she's got a journal out and is writing something down, which would be very scholarly if she wasn't about to break that illusion by calling to anyone who passes by.]

Before she can finish her sentence, something sure does blow up - specifically a firework, bursting in fiery colors above the campsite - and Erika jolts, pressing the heels of her palms over her ears. “--fuck! God, never mind, of course they’d have those things here.”

Even back in his own world, actually having the chance to take a warm bath, in a public bathhouse or otherwise, was a rare privilege for Ginko. Passing up the opportunity now is out of the question, especially given the availability of swimwear.

Not that Ginko can actually swim, exactly. He knows how, but he was never very good - and now he's got over twenty kilograms of dead weight in stone growing from his torso. So he settles instead for sitting on a ledge at the edge of the heated bathing pool, with… well, he's got soap, that should work on it's own. It's not like he's too concerned with the condition of his hair (or fur), so long as it's clean.

...Speaking of fur, no sooner has he sat down than a few clumps of fuzzy white undercoat come loose in the water. Ginko swears under his breath, pushing his damp hair away from his good eye. "And here I thought I was done shedding for the year."

"What, 'round here? Good luck on that." Tufts of red and black are drifting away from Ed as well, and he shrugs. "Better hope this place has a decent filtration system."

Sitting on the steps of one of the warm, swimming pool-like baths, Marvus is submerged up to just below his clavicles (or dumb troll equivalent word [nub struts? Bellowsack enclosure ganderbulb frames?]) in the water, leaning with his back against the edge of the bath and his elbows up on the sides. His large quantity of black hair is partially trapped where he leans, but a good deal of it is still floating up around him. While he is shirtless (and evidently, nippleless), he’s at least wearing a pair of incredibly tight swimshorts if someone’s looking that way. They might be! Marvus is the “Sexy Troll”, even if he’s still a Juggalo with the facepaint on and everything. There’s always a first time to be into Clowns!

He’s honestly set himself up incredibly luxuriously: a bowl of cherries he’s picked and a bottle of champagne from the vineyard’s basement on the ledge behind him with a glass of that same champagne in his hand. He loves this place. What a perfect introduction after the oddness with two dimensions when he arrived. With his free hand, he reaches behind himself and grabs a cherry, which he places into his mouth in its entirety. He then...absolutely fails to do that sexy thing with the stem despite his Branding, and just crunches up the whole thing in his horrid sharp alien teeth, pit and all.

The Tea Gardens are a perfect way to relax without the intervention of mind-altering substances...unless you’re a troll, anyway. The champagne and mead and other alcoholic beverages were just interesting drinks, but tea, like Faygo, has caffeine and has therefore affected the trolls of LifeAftr in a soporific manner.

Marvus is still upright, but his toothy grin is sloppier than usual. He’s under a deep green spicy-smelling tree leaning back into an ironwrought garden chair, trollspreading, his hand damp with condensation from the glass he has loosely held in it. It’s full of a deep purple tea and ice cubes, and a glass carafe half full of the same tea is placed on another chair off to Marvus’ left. A little farther to his left is an empty chair, and then Karako, cheek pressed firmly to the ground and one arm reaching lazily off above him. He appears to be dead to the world.

At the approach of someone new, Marvus lazily shows a few more of his multitudinous teeth and drops his cane from his right hand to the ground to wave with just his fingers, equally lazily.

“Heeeeeey, cuz,” he says, voice chill and languid and for some reason, possessing a Detroit accent. “You wanna come join me in drinkin’ this fresh beverage? Got a free seat now my li’l buddy’s takin’ a dirt break.”

Temple

[It's not a surprise that Shepard comes here first, exploring the temple and admiring its artistry. While she has been partially slacking in the deity department, now that she's more out and about she's exploring and taking in everything this place has to offer. All in all, it helps that the atmosphere on this island is so... calm. She wants to keep her guard up, but despite herself she finds herself relaxing.

And when she sees the variety of fruit available here, she's happily stuffing her face. She'll go in and talk with the god here, absolutely, but maybe she should just... enjoy some good food first... just in case, you know?]

Bathhouses

Shepard has never been shy of being exposed around other people. The military training made sure of that. So when she sees these luxury bathhouses, there is nothing stopping her from diving in. As the tension in her muscles eases she leans back against the walls of the bath. Letting out a satisfied sigh, she speaks to whoever else may be in the room with her with her eyes closed.

"I think this island may be my favorite island yet."

Honeycomb

[Have you ever wanted to see Commander Shepard do 200 pull ups, barely breaking a sweat? Of course you do!

Here Shepard can be found performing some drills and exercises to keep her mind and body sharp. Just because this island is relatively calm doesn't mean that there won't be dangers in the future and she will be ready for them. If you want to help her out by spotting her as she lifts some heavy honeycomb or sit on her back while she does one-armed push ups, she'll welcome it!

Or if you just want to watch a buff lady work out, you're welcome to that too.]

It's been awhile since Shepard has had a good drink and the supple deliciousness of the wine provided here is a siren call she cannot refuse. So anyone coming by can easily find her sampling many bottles of wine of various colors.

In fact, you may come upon her slightly buzzed, holding two bottles of white wine in her hands and looking at them in confusion.

"How... do you know which... is better...?"

[Perhaps drinking all day long was not the wisest of choices on her part. During the night she can be found if you look hard enough tucked away into some lonely corner in the winery, clutching a bottle of red wine with a distant expression on her face. She won't actively engage anyone who comes near her. It's a bit of a departure from her usual demeanor, but she refuses to make eye contact and instead opts to take another sip from the bottle she holds. She won't push you away, necessarily, but she's not the most welcoming figure here. Ignore the other empty bottles of wine around her, she's fine.]

Campsites

After everything she's been up to on this island, the idea of making her way all the way back home to her sad little shack is not appealing. Especially since these blankets and cushions are a lot more comfortable than the pile of leaves that she's been sleeping on for... god, how long now??? She doesn't want to think about it.

She'll make a comfortable nest, surrounded by pillows and blankets and make sure she has a perfect view of the stars. If there is anyone nearby, she'll chuckle quietly to herself and speak.

"Feels almost like a sleep over, huh? Never had those as a kid."

[This is by far Guzma's favorite island. He enjoyed Nuidan for the work and resources it provided, but this? This is literally vacation island right here. He's needed the R&R super bad, and he looks clean, loose, and actually like he's slept, and well to boot, in the past day or two. He and Lillie have mainly gone back to Enso to change their clothes and actually pack some proper essentials - or deposit what they've taken from the island to their home.

Fruits, teas for Lillie, cups for said teas, jars of honey, some pillows and blankets, and...a lot of alcohol for ya boy here. Listen, not all of it will be drunk!! There's some good types of booze that he can cook with - wine, sherries, and even beer. But all the booze and sweet fruits he's been eating builds, and he's looking to rejuvenate himself with a bit of fitness... It's a damn shame there isn't anywhere he can dance here. I mean, he could dance anywhere, but a hard, flat, open surface would be best for some real choreography. Ah well, he'll chat up the bee friends and see what they can do.

Seeing Shep, he waits his turn, squatting down close by to observe absently. Guzma's been interested in actually learning to properly fight - real, actual martial arts. He's learned...some stuff from when he was a lot younger, from Hala, but that was what? fifteen years ago? Other than fistfights and brawls, he hasn't kept up with his regime. It's about time he got back into it, probably, he's got the muscle for it, just lacks the focus.]

Bee careful!

[It's not too surprising that one of the first things Chip is drawn to is the Honeycomb--once they were sure the island was safe enough they'd gone running right for the closest thing they've seen to a proper playground in a year. They spend nearly an hour running around and through it with delighted laughter, pockets full of honey sticks (and fingers sticky with the remains, of course), before they manage to pop out to an opening at the top.]

[They've begun to very carefully climb across the 'roof' of the complex, jumping over gaps and edging their way down some of the steeper sides to keep from sliding off. Whatever this stuff is made of, it's pretty tough--but still just slippery enough that they have to watch their footing. Which means that if anyone happens to come across Chip, they're probably not going to notice until they right right into whoever it is.]

Who ever heard of a cultivar?

[Later on Chip wanders around the vineyards, pulling bunches of grapes off the vine to snack on as they wander around. Unfortunately, the edibility of some types they come across leave something to be desired, and they wince when they bite into one and feel a crunch against their teeth.]

[Spitting out the seed into their hand, they make a face and look between it and the little bundle they'd just pulled off the vine.]

If you somehow thought that Mollymauk-decadence-Tealeaf was not going to live in the bath house for as long as possible, you'd be a fool. He hasn't had a proper soak in months and he's giddy with excitement.

It almost didn't matter what kind of horrors this bullshit place was going to do to them in return for this indulgence, he's sure it's worth it.

Find him in any of the rooms, soaking in hot water wearing nothing but a smile. He brought wine from the vineyards and some stolen weed, as well as any soaps and oils he could find. All he needs now is some company and all his problems will not matter any more.

All he cares about is this hot water and his nice buzz. Join him?

Well well, isn't this self-indulgent? Not that Yasha's complaining. She's always good for a bath, and it's been a long time since she's been able to be so ostentatious about it all. The water is steaming hot, Molly has brought in drugs, and there is nobody to police the level of salaciousness this whole situation might reach, which is fantastic. All Yasha wants to do is drink and sit in hot water up to her collarbones with her hair down, and that is exactly what she is doing, thank you very much.

"I told the others where we are," she says eventually, rolling her neck lazily from side to side, eyes closed. If Caduceus were here right now, doing a perception check for good vibes would be super fucking unnecessary. Yasha is very at peace. "They might come too."

Bathhouses
[This is the greatest thing that has happened since he got here.

The moment Izuku discovers the bathhouses, he is in one of them almost constantly. Sometimes he's using one of the cold or warm pools for swimming - it's a hell of an efficient workout, and it's fun to be able to race people casually.

Most of the time, though? He's scrubbing down and rinsing off so he can flop into one of the hot bathing pools and just soak. He even goes so far as to fold his towel up into a makeshift pillow so he can prop his head on the edge. Falling asleep is absolutely a thing he does, multiple times. He missed this, he missed this so much.

In both situations, anyone who runs into him will find it hard to miss the collection of scars riddling his right arm, especially the massive burn scar on his outer bicep. Izuku doesn't bother to cover them up unless he catches someone staring; he's so used to only having them exposed around people who know they're there that his self-consciousness kicks in the moment they draw attention.]


Tea Garden
[Izuku wouldn't exactly say he enjoys tea, not in the sense of seeking it out and trying different brands and blends for its own sake. But he does like it. It's a comfort beverage of sorts, a familiar thing wound up in blurry childhood memories, and he'd be lying if he said he didn't look forward to every time Yaoyoruzu brewed up a new expensive varietal or custom blend in the dorm kitchenette for everyone to try.

So it's not long before he finds himself in the garden, where he can be seen dumping a mugful of hot water and a couple teaspoons of black tea into a...saucepan? Yes, that's definitely a saucepan. This is certainly a thing he's doing.

Anyone who misses out on this particular oddity can at least find the aftermath, as Izuku settles down in a shady corner to scribble away into a blank book he snagged from the library, occasionally muttering to himself between sips of royal milk tea.]

[ The Knight isn't really experienced with tea; the idea of drinking for relaxation, the comfortable memories associated with warm drinks on cold days or other things like it, is something that they've never really had.

They've decided, in their own methodical way, to try as many things as they can, little by little. It's an idyllic way to spend the time, after all.

So they're wandering up to one of their newer acquaintances with appropriately bug-sized mug held in their hands, watching him with clear curiosity. What's he got there? ]

[ Most people probably look at the pools as a place to relax. Maine looks at the largest of them and sees a place to exercise. He changes into a suit that fits him (black swim trunks with white piping), lowers himself into the pool, and starts to swim.

The seven-foot-tall marine is no professional swimmer, but he's had lessons and knows what he's doing. He swims and swims and swims, lap after lap, trying to burn through his own ridiculous stamina. It takes a long, long time, but when he finally tires and emerges from the pool, he's smiling.

Afterward, Maine soaks in one of the smaller pools of warm water. He takes up a lot of space, but there's room to join if one is so inclined. ]


HONEYCOMB

[ Like the pools, Maine looks at the honeycomb and sees a place to exercise. An obstacle course, of sorts. He approaches it with enthusiasm, though he quickly finds that it's less challenging than he'd like. Still, he enjoys himself. He ups the difficulty by giving himself rules to follow: he can only pass through one room by swinging from the ceiling; he has to cross another by clinging to the walls like a rock climber; and so forth. If nothing else, it makes for a fun time.

When he finds canisters of honey sticks, Maine always pauses to sample one. Or two. Or three. What can he say? They're good! ]


CAMPSITE

[ With a strong alcoholic drink in one hand and a skewer of roasting meat in the other, Maine looks right at home next to the bonfire. The massive space marine appears somehow younger than usual — though not as though he has residual ash in his lungs — and it may become apparent that it's because he's relaxed. He's having a good time on this island, to the point that he doesn't really want to leave.

… So he doesn't. He finds a place to sleep in one of the tents. He gets up the next day, explores and exercises, and he feels the knots of tension in his body slowly unwind. He's back at the fire the next night, roasting meat and having a drink.

How long will he stay here? Who knows. ]

Maybe this was a foregone conclusion.

Klaus has tried his best, sure. He looked for cigarettes and couldn't find any, but that was just tobacco, that doesn't count. That's a habit, not an addiction. (It's absolutely an addiction. He just doesn't count it because it does nothing to chase the ghosts away.) He may have slipped for a second and taste tested the rubbing alcohol, but he was quick to learn that there's a reason people don't use that in their mixed drinks, and he spat out the tiny portion he tasted before any harm could be done.

But this new island? This is like setting a piece of cake directly in a child's lap and then telling them not to eat it. There's absolutely no way they're not partaking once your back is turned.

And, well, eventually the people "in the know" have their backs turned. And eventually, Klaus finds and identifies the shrooms.

And now here he is, sprawled out against the outside corner of the winery, near the surrounding vineyard. He's out enough that he's averse to doing anything more active than lazily gesturing randomly with a hand at some shit only he sees. He's just gonna lie here and have a grand ol' time, alright.

Toriel, of course, gravitates towards the bathhouses. It feels like it's already been an eternity since she had an actual, proper bath. She misses them - people have no idea how dirty fur can get when one's been living on an island. And this is so luxurious too, in comparison to just filling a giant bucket with water and soaking in it. A dream come true, to be sure.

Feel free to join her, if you wish. She won't mind the company, as long as one doesn't mind that her robes and other clothing is all folded neatly next to the bath. In other words - goat mom is naked.

And as long as one doesn't mind that she's brought with her a guest. A giant, furry, beaked snake creature, better known as a Lorby, is sleeping nearby like an oversized, overly long cat.

II. Tea Gardens

After her bath, and carrying her Lorby around her neck like a scarf, she makes her way... far away from the winery. Last time she got drunk was so embarrassing. She instead makes her way into the tea gardens. Her first thought is that this is heaven. Tea of so many kinds she can hardly even count them all, and all available for her to sample. The only person she can imagine liking this more is Asgore, a thought that makes her strangely wistful for a moment. Frisk would no doubt love it too.

She brews herself a cup of chocolate rose tea, sits down at a nearby table, and drinks, letting the sense of peace and quiet wash over her. After erupting volcanoes, being turned into a child, and meeting with Chara, this is a welcome respite.

III. Campsites

This really is too good to be true. Compared to her paltry home on Enso, and the difficulties of living day-to-day in this strange land, this place seems designed almost to be a paradise. It's as if whoever abducted her, and everyone she knows, wanted them to have an island vacation instead of an island adventure. Whatever the reason, she's quite grateful for it.

She sits in front of a bonfire not far from her tent, the Lorby curled up into her lap, watches the stars twinkling above, and eats a hearty, delicious meal.

This is good, she thinks.

[Wesker does generally try to acquaint himself with the new islands, even if, in his experience, they're always temporary and as such he doesn't always understand the point. But this place is...fine, he supposes, and he's been appreciating the alcohol if nothing else, though it doesn't show in his demeanor - it takes far more to get to him than one would assume nowadays.

Anyway.

The night is young, and honestly Wesker isn't precisely the sort to remain in one place for long, and as such he's wandering the campsites - seeing who's here, seeing who's out enjoying the night. (It's kind of a wonder that he's seeing anything at all, given that he's still got those dark glasses on, but the bonfires are apparently sufficient enough.)

He isn't expecting to run into someone he recognizes.

He doesn't know her, of course, at least not to speak to; his knowledge of her comes from a photograph, from conversations with Asgore, and for the briefest of moments it gives him pause. He knows that he's to generally avoid engaging with Chara, not that he was particularly thrilled about the idea of conversing with children anyway, but he's been given no such sense of protocol with regards to Toriel. Ignoring her entirely seems pointlessly rude, engaging seems like a bad idea... But you know what, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Approaching it is, though he'll stop a respectable distance away.]
