Nothing like the smell of rotting ape corpse in the morning
Who: Newt and Everyone Who Either Commented or Is Listed in This Post
What: Searching that Monkey Compound
When: 10/7
Where: Everyone's on a D8
Warnings: Rotting monkey corpses? IDK, tag ur stuff, friendos
"Picking over the remnants of that bloody battle will prove quite advantageous, as long as you don't mind the smell. Not only did the monkeys fashion several abodes mounted in the branches of the trees in the compound, but they had quite a supply of various items on hand. For those who may have been concerned about islet over-crowding, it seems they need not worry; most of the homes remain undamaged, and aside from the strong smell of monkey, are completely habitable."
"Investigating the back of the compound will reveal a very small plot of farmland, where several rows of plants with dark green leaves can be seen growing. Anyone with a knack for identifying useful plants - or anyone who's simply willing to take one for the team and give them a taste - will soon discover that these leaves are the plants from which the monkeys drew their sedative. It makes quite a useful anesthetic in a pinch!"
"The sigil etched deeply onto the door itself will, as the Storyteller warned, be quite effective in keeping people out. The door repels any and all efforts to break through it; those sensitive to magic may note that it does indeed exude a very powerful and dense aura that makes its origins difficult to discern. One thing is clear, however: it will take a great deal more than teamwork between mortals to get through it." ( x )
[Welcome to the Mingle Log, Fam. Around you are the rotting corpses of many dead apes. There's also many items for you to lay claim to. Or you might feel like checking out those sweet sweet monkey nests. Or checking out that door. Whatever you feel like doing, leave a top level for people to pester you with. Or pester other people with top levels. The Mingle Log is your Oyster.]

Newt - OTA, will match format etc
[Newt can be found wandering the compound, a tattered, torn and stained handkerchief held over his mouth and nose against the smell. He's checking out just about everything, gathering up a couple ill-gotten goods, and being generally apathetic about this still-gruesome scene. Sort of. Mostly. It's still pretty gross and smells frankly disgusting. The handkerchief helps a little bit, but not much. Feel free to flag him down if need.]
2. I'm feeling apathetic, like I'm on a strong anesthetic
[TIME TO CHECK OUT THAT PLANT LIFE. Newt's not a botanist exactly but he knows a bit. He does not, however, know what this plant is exactly. He will pick up a leaf, though, and offer it out to whomever is nearby with a cheeky grin] Hey, wanna try this for science?
3. A mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in who the fuck cares aka DOOR MYSTERY
[Sup. Newt is just kinda...standing in front of that door. A couple steps back, sure, because he's not about to place himself too much in harm's way, but he sure is squinting up at that sigil.]
So, uh...anyone seen markings like that before? [he'll point them out, but his question is to the compound at large and whomever happens to be closeby]
no subject
[Because anything happening in a field of corpses with no regulations is definitely science.
Still, that's not the reason McCree is hesitating. It's got more to do with the fact that Newt doesn't look like the most trustworthy fella.]
I'll give it a try if you go first, partner.

McCree | OTA, will match formats ofc
[While McCree wasn't too keen to head back to the compound after his very rude introduction to the islands, Fareeha insisted on going which really left McCree with no choice.
There might be something good there. Or it'll just be a huge mass of monkey corpses. You never know.
Currently, the likelihood of it just being a bunch of bodies is winning out. He does make sure to grab one of the spears, largely using it to nudge bodies over to get a better look at them before moving on to the next item of interest. If the smell bothers him, it doesn't show on his face. He looks more at ease surrounded by the bodies than he did on the day of the battle.]
the more mysterious the door the more curious the asshole knocking on it
[The door is a mystery McCree definitely is not equipped to solve. He doesn't know anything about....about symbology, or whatever the fuck, so the sigil just looks for all the world like the scribbles of a mad man.
And maybe it is. It's not like anyone can tell him otherwise.
Still, there's something about the door that bothers McCree. Maybe it's the fact it can't be opened. Maybe it's the fact it's the thing he understands the least in his immediate vicinity. Whatever it is, McCree is drawn to it. Seems like he's not the only one, and anyone who wonders up to the door while McCree is standing near it gets a nod of acknowledgement.]
So what're you thinkin'? Is it gonna be somethin' like treasure behind it or some sorta monster or powerful artifact?
[Because what else do you seal behind unopenable doors? Your paperwork?]
no subject
Horrendous daemons, most likely. [Ardyn frowned at the sigil, saying that much in a way that made it hard to tell if he was joking or not.]

Gobbet | OTA | Will Match Formats
[Gobbet doesn't waste any time getting to work on her soon-to-be home. She can be found dragging bodies to the cliff where she pitches them into the ocean, seemingly unbothered by the rancid scent of decaying flesh. Or, for those who don't have the stomach to help her, you can find her up in a tree-mounted nest, reinforcing it with rope and branches.]
2) Knock Knock Motherfucker
[This door is, without a doubt, the most infuriating thing Gobbet has ever encountered. There's no lock or bar, just some sort of magical seal that she can feel pulsing through her veins when she touches the smooth stone. It's dense and thick and just so goddamn heavy. Her astral perception hasn't worked since she got here, but she's attuned enough to feel it all the same.]
[She sighs, taking a step back and staring down at the sigil with a furrowed brow. If you wander close enough you can hear her muttering:]
The fuck kind of symbol is that?

Jack Foley | OTA | Will Match Format
[Jack hadn't been at the battle, if it could really be called that. He had heard it and had seen the stragglers. But being face to face with the corpses being eaten away by nature and the passing of time, the thing now feels very real, not just a surreal thing off in the background.
He finds one particularly large creature and crouches down near to it, taking a closer look, nose scrunching and mouth turn down in repulsion from the smell]
Good god [He murmurs under his breath]
II. General
[Jack can be found in the general area, poking about and examining things. He's clearly erring on the side of caution, giving things that might be dangerous or diseased a wide birth, while at times being brave enough to dig through a pile of debris.]
Were you here when all this happened? [He might turn to ask someone who passes nearby]
II
Regrettably, yes.
[She doesn't sound devastated, but she doesn't sound very happy about it either. Just tired and sorrowful at the sheer waste.]
Re: II
Re: II
Tataru | OTA (will match formats)
[Tataru is easy to find among the group, primarily because she knows better than to stray too far from everyone else, in case something might be lurking. The only reason she was here at all was the large number of people who'd decided to come.
Still, there are some things even a large group doesn't change. And walking among the carnage, Tataru looks... a bit green. And horrified.
She does her best to pick through the compound, looking particularly for supplies and useful things. Even if she has to stop, close her eyes, and breathe every once in a while. Preferably through her mouth.]
Herbology
[One other spot that Tataru takes interest in is the farm area. She can be found examining the plants with a slight frown.]
These clearly don't look like any plant from Eorzea. I suppose I have much to learn about local flora.
[Not that she'd been much of a botanist back in Eorzea. But she'd known enough to be able to make some things, like her special tonic. It appeared she'd need to start from scratch here, though.]
element
Easy now... don't force yourself.

Mickey Mouse | will match format!
[Mickey heads right for one of the monkey houses and knocks on the walls. He whistles, impressed.]
It's almost like those guys built better houses than the ones we first found... Or maybe those other houses were just there for a longer time.
[he pulls back, arms crossed, thinking.]
I guess it's good since we got newcomers and all... Almost like it happened just in time... hmmm.
B - And you may find yourself in another part of the world
[Hey, farmland! Maybe they can find new crops and food here!]
Oh boy, maybe we can transfer these plants too! I wonder what they are!
[He's going to pluck one of those dark green leafy ones, and give it a sniff.]
Smells kinda funny...
[...And of course he puts it in his mouth and chews.]
... Tastes kinda funny too. I think that -
[and THUNK. That's all he got out before he falls face forward, K.O.'d. thankfully since it was such a small bite, he'll wake up in a moment, or after you shake him hard enough while demanding to know why he's just this stupid.]
C - ...lyrics don't apply so just C
[The good news is that they have more weaponry, and Mickey is lining them up, counting - slingshots, blow gun darts, coconut guns... but he scratches his head, thinking of the bad news.]
... Does anyone know how to actually use any of these things?
B
[Muffet dashes over as soon as she sees Mickey collapse, carefully turning him over and laying him down on his side.]
