Nothing like the smell of rotting ape corpse in the morning
Who: Newt and Everyone Who Either Commented or Is Listed in This Post
What: Searching that Monkey Compound
When: 10/7
Where: Everyone's on a D8
Warnings: Rotting monkey corpses? IDK, tag ur stuff, friendos
"Picking over the remnants of that bloody battle will prove quite advantageous, as long as you don't mind the smell. Not only did the monkeys fashion several abodes mounted in the branches of the trees in the compound, but they had quite a supply of various items on hand. For those who may have been concerned about islet over-crowding, it seems they need not worry; most of the homes remain undamaged, and aside from the strong smell of monkey, are completely habitable."
"Investigating the back of the compound will reveal a very small plot of farmland, where several rows of plants with dark green leaves can be seen growing. Anyone with a knack for identifying useful plants - or anyone who's simply willing to take one for the team and give them a taste - will soon discover that these leaves are the plants from which the monkeys drew their sedative. It makes quite a useful anesthetic in a pinch!"
"The sigil etched deeply onto the door itself will, as the Storyteller warned, be quite effective in keeping people out. The door repels any and all efforts to break through it; those sensitive to magic may note that it does indeed exude a very powerful and dense aura that makes its origins difficult to discern. One thing is clear, however: it will take a great deal more than teamwork between mortals to get through it." ( x )
[Welcome to the Mingle Log, Fam. Around you are the rotting corpses of many dead apes. There's also many items for you to lay claim to. Or you might feel like checking out those sweet sweet monkey nests. Or checking out that door. Whatever you feel like doing, leave a top level for people to pester you with. Or pester other people with top levels. The Mingle Log is your Oyster.]

[Gobbet sincerely doubted that Marcille, whoever she was, had the know how to get through this particular puzzle. She also doubted that this mouse was a mage or shaman, but who was she to say who could and couldn't learn magic if it didn't have to be awakened or inherited here.]

[His face falls. It was really his own fault, bringing her up.]
She... we're not exactly where she went, but one day she just up and disappeared. B-But maybe she'll come back! We don't know any a lot of this stuff works!

[The reality of the situation, as Gobbet sees it, is that she probably got lost and died out in the jungle. And while she wouldn't typically bullshit someone about something so serious, this little mouse is just a beacon of hope and innocence. She can't just. Crush that under her thumb.]

[After another awkward pause, he clears his throat.]
... But we got smart ones here too. I'm sure we can figure out this door dilemma!

[She manages to keep the edge of doubt out of her voice, but the words themselves don't exactly inspire confidence.]
Got any ideas?

[Gobbet reaches out again to touch the stone door. The ward pushes back against her hand aggressively. Something wanted to keep them out really, really badly to use magic like this.]
[But if she could break into a vault guarded by a demon goddess, she could break through a simple stone door and its (admittedly immaculate) ward.]

[optimism!!!]

[Gobbet eyes the mouse curiously. The Storyteller had wanted them to break through the door, yes, and she owes it to herself to try out of sheer curiosity if nothing else. But if she was going to have to prepare for something big...well, she wasn't sure she was ready to stick her neck out. Even for a god.]

[It's all he can think of at the given moment. And maybe a little bit of a joke, too.]
no subject
[Gobbet seriously doubts that's all it is.]
I don't think we're getting through it here and now, to be honest with you. But we should be on our toes in case it opens on its own. We don't know if those monkeys were keeping it closed or what.
[A small stretch, a long, lazy look around the compound. Gobbet sighs. They could stand here until the cows came home and puzzle over the door all they wanted. That ward had to be dismantled by someone or something smarter than her before they could make any progress.]
Alright, Squeaks, I've gotta get to looting before everyone snatches up all the good stuff. You got any kind of plans for the day?
no subject
Nope, I'm ready for commands! If you want me to do get something done, I'm your man!
[He'll even salute!]
no subject
[Gobbet turns to look over the ruined compound at the others already scouring the nests and battlefield for supplies. They look a lot like vultures. Not that she has room to talk, but still.]
Stay safe, Squeaks. Grab yourself a spear or something. Just in case, you know?
no subject
[He pats the sword in its scabbard on his waist. With another salute, he'll turn to go.]
I'll get right on the preparations!
