I’ll take my throne, lay it on a mountain
Who: Our volunteer mountaineers
What: Two parties split up to scale the mountain from two sides, planning to meet at it’s peak. Shenanigans occur along the way.
When: September 13th to 16th
Where: Group 1: G3, H2, G2 || Group 2: F3, F2, G2
Warnings: Please note any warnings in your subject headers!
Word spreads quickly in a small community such as this. What was originally intended to be a small party turned into something much larger- and on the day Chara planned to leave for the mountain, it’s not one, but two parties that make off for it’s peak.
OOC: Welcome to the mountaineering open post! Keep in mind the following;

Group 1, led by Chara, moves off during the early hours of the morning, seeking to search the furthest part of the mountain by following the river upwards. The path is longer and more winding- however, they are unhampered in when they can travel.
Group 2, led by Ardyn, takes off after the sun has set- due to the needs of multiple members to avoid the sun’s harsh glare. Their route takes them up the closest side of the mountain, which provides an easier path- however, they may only travel whilst the sun is set.
OOC: Welcome to the mountaineering open post! Keep in mind the following;
♆ RNG was happily done blind by our wonderful Guzma mun, with our animals RNG'd by Wade Wilson's! Thank them both for all your misfortune.
♆ Prompts have been provided for each group below! Simply toplevel wherever you wish and treat this like a normal open post!
♆ Since each group will generally be in close contact with one another, consider asking others if you can threadjack here and there; nothing says team-building like being a nosy parker.
DAY 1 - G3 - EXTREME HEAT
If you didn’t, don’t fret. G3 leads the party up past a waterfall, a bubbling stream appearing through cracks and dips in the rocks which is fresh, surprisingly cool water, bubbling upwards from somewhere within the mountain itself. Something characters will be in dire need of, as the higher the sun, the more the rocks underfoot begin to bake.
At midday, characters will be forced to take shelter in the shade, putting a halt to their exploration for a few hours.
No one is happy with this.
tim wright | feel free to threadjack you meme loving fucks
Somehow, Tim's pretty sure he's only one of this group to claim to have lived in Tuscaloosa personally - and Tuscaloosa is, if nothing else, the land of many weather extremes, with heat being the most prominent imaginable. He's not unused to it.
Doesn't mean he likes it.
The back of one wrist smears away the worst of the sweat to keep it from running into his eyes. But at least he didn't come unprepared.
The last of the coconuts he harvested from the grove by the ruins are going to be put to good use as he starts to saw at the thick husks - first to pass around the clear, cool nectar to anyone who looks dehydrated, and second to hollow the shells free of the flesh to use them for receptacles for the nearby water spring.

[Which doesn't mean she's having fun- there's a reason she moved out of Hotland, and it wasn't just because the Surface had a bigger market for baked goods.]
[She's got a full jug of water and less biology to worry about when it comes to risking heat exhaustion, so she's in discomfort but not in danger, but she's eyeing the more physical members of the party with concern.]
I'd suggest some ways to keep the sun off of us, but this heat doesn't really seem to be coming from the sunlight... or any other specific source that I can see.
Admittedly, I'm not a meteorologist, but the climate being so drastically different in just one area seems a bit odd.
[This was more like something she'd expect from the Underground, the sharp change from Snowdin to Waterfall to Hotland, not anywhere on the surface.]

[He shrugs. He stopped questioning shit like this a long time ago, and his tenure at Sol Raveh didn't exactly encourage him to go about asking after those sorts of things anyhow. In his experience, they simply are - wondering about the why or the how won't make them any more or less.]
No trees, no humidity. Drier heat.

Technically that thread hasn't happened yet, but in-game it should be over by now.

Jamil's experienced humidity, he's wandered off the edge of the Mojave's borders, into the general Southwest. But he's never seen island humidity. He's never been this sweaty. It doesn't feel possible.
He's got his suit jacket tied around his waist and most of his chest exposed through his halfway unbuttoned shirt, slacks rolled up to the knees. He feels sticky and disgusting, and he's nursing his lucky Vault 13 canteen closely, continually refilling it from the nearby stream.
He glances up, where Tim has created hollowed out... shells of some kind, and is using them as containers for the spring.
"The hell're those things, anyway?" he asks gruffly, lacking manners and patience thanks to the heat. He sees the flesh that's been separated from the husk, and it looks vaguely edible. But he's never seen anything like that in the Mojave. Some kind of fruit, maybe, but it's got a hard shell.
Not that he needs them. He's doing just fine with his lucky canteen. But hey, this entire island has been a learning experience, apparently.

They've got similar interests, then. If very limited, overly specific ones.
"Coconuts," he says, jiggling one of the hairy halves indicatively. "Don't have these where you come from?"
no subject
Probably not.
"Give it to Kittu. Or someone else." They're not sulking and you can't prove it, Tim.
no subject
He doesn't force it, but he does make a point of asking, "have you drank...anything today?"

Guzma || OTA
Finding shade, Guzma shucks his hoodie and his undershirt, using the latter to wipe his face clean of sweat, and dabbing at the back of his neck as well. This expedition plainly blows, and Guzma is just hoping the brat is doing alright...and that she still have her Ninetales with her - that icy fox may be a cool reprieve from this blazing heat, and even Guzma would throw his arms around the fuzzy creature and bask in the pleasant chill for a few minutes. Haters to the left, he'll take his personal comfort, thank you very much.
Lord, but he probably reeks, too...ugh. Gross. He hates being gross and sticky like this. Its super uncomfortable, and GUzma is grumbling, hoping there's a way to freshen up and wash this filth off himself. He's also going to need to wash his clothes again too, god lord. Maybe the next thing he'll ask for is a family pack of spray on deodorant and antiperspirant.
This shit better be worth it.]
Re: Guzma || OTA
It must be getting close to noon... do you want to take a break for a while, until the heat of the day passes a little? I think I can see some shade over there.
no subject
[Oh cripes, that explains it - the sun is at its highest point, and it'll be blazing for several hours going forward. Noon to about three in the afternoon are the peak times the sun burns brightest in a lot of places, and on really peak days in Alola, people are cautioned to go out between these hours without protective clothing and plenty of water to hydrate.]
I ain't holding no one up, and this sorta heat's not going no where until the sun gets lower...I'd say 'bout three hours, give'r take. We either stop'n wait, or we grin and bear it and hope we got 'nuff water to keep cool.

Chara | OTA and threadjacks welcome - I'll follow your formatting c:
Tramping through the Hotlands wasn't even remotely this bad. At the end of the day, they'd been ducking in and out of cool rooms and elevators, hardly spending more than a few hours at most in the heat once they'd learned the overall path.
This is different. And whilst the call was made with some reluctance, it's made with Frisk in mind. One red-faced child is deposited in the nearest adequate shade (though Chara has no doubt they intent to move the moment their back is turned) whilst the other surveys their party, approaching anyone who looks to be ailing in the slightest.
Aside from that, they can also be found brazenly ignoring the general idea of this halt in the first place- walking out into the sun and finding the highest outcropping that's still in sight, looking for a trail- or a threat.]

Mm...hope them other guys are having a heck of a time, too.
[Because misery loves company. Guzma wipes his chin free of water with the back of one hand, approaching the youngster to get a survey of the land himself. They've trekked a good distance up (which may be why he's so pooped), but there's still more to go. Shielding his eyes from the blazing sun, he looks out over the land below. Man, if his phone still worked, he'd love to snap a couple pictures - maybe it'd help the actual cartographers on this island a bit. Ah well.]
no subject
...They would not have left yet. Certain members of their party aren't capable of moving about freely in sunlight.
[So no. The misery is all theirs, currently.]

But...not this heat. While it's true that an ice-type like Ninetales would be ideal, both of her pokemon have been...odd, in the face of environmental adversity. They sleep a lot more than she's ever seen them, and mainly after they expend what used to be not-a-whole-lotta energy.
Better to be safe than sorry. She's already lost four pokemon since she got here. Won't risk losing anyone else. Absolutely not.
She speeds up a bit when she sees the group getting a little too far ahead, but ultimately pulls up the rear. Everyone looks pretty miserable.
Luna kind of wishes that funny skeleton was here to lighten to mood. Make a joke about the heat. She distracts herself by staring at Ninetales' pokeball. Once they find some shade, she can call the ice-dog out. Hopefully. ]

Do you want some water, dearie? I have some in my pack.
no subject
I brought some with me! Thanks, though! Are you doing okay? [ it occurs to her that everyone who's hot would want to sit near Ninetales, probably...maybe like a campfire? But opposite? ]

Okay...sorry. I'm okay, though! [ he didn't ask, but she feels a little obligated to report. ] Just, um...admiring the scenery! Of... the ground. [ she sighs a bit and looks at the dirt-- it should be on fire with how hot it feels, but she can at least keep that thought to herself. ]
I wonder why it's so hot...?

Lup | OTA all shenanigans
Still, she's determined to make the best of it and look damn good while doing so, so she can be found reclining in the shade of her large umbrella, heart-shaped sunglasses on and wild hair done up in a bun. Her shirt is tied up like some kinda makeshift bikini top and she's sucking on a refreshing spring water popsicle. If you're nice or a small child she might even let you share the shade.
Re: Lup | OTA all shenanigans
[Muffet gives Lup a friendly wink and offers:]
Want something to flavor that a bit? A kind soul told me where on this island one can find blackberries, I brought a few with me.

Dang, girly, y'all looking real comfy there. [While the rest of them sit and smolder, thanks. Honestly, he's wondering where the hell she got that umbrella, too. Did she come with it? Or spend one of Cottontail's wish things for it? Pretty gaudy, but hell...it's shade, something they all desperately need, aside from water.] Think y'all can freeze up something for me while you're at it?

Taako | OTA plz get this elf before he melts
Sadly, the icebox idea will have to wait, but at least in the meantime he can make, at Lup's suggestion, 'popsicles.' Fakey quotes because that is absolutely just ice, sis. It's more about the coldness anyway, he can get artisanal with it later, when he's not a sweltering elf puddle; rather than consuming his ice, he's made a sort of torc out of it, thick ice looped around the back of his neck. Gotta chill those pulse points, suckas. If magic weren't at such a premium he would absolutely have picked a better color for it, too.
The air...is water, is practically steam, and this is disgusting, he is literally going to die here. They're going to make a killing on laundry sauce later, but God, at what cost? Even his hair, which he would swear humidity has always been particularly kind to, is a mess of sweat and frizz. At least he had the sense to swap out his Hat Classic for a refreshingly ventilated straw number. A Taako original, discarded now in favor of real, blessed shade. Which anyone can share, provided they don't sit too close, or smell too bad.
