I’ll take my throne, lay it on a mountain

Who: Our volunteer mountaineers
What: Two parties split up to scale the mountain from two sides, planning to meet at it’s peak. Shenanigans occur along the way.
When: September 13th to 16th
Where: Group 1: G3, H2, G2 || Group 2: F3, F2, G2

Word spreads quickly in a small community such as this. What was originally intended to be a small party turned into something much larger- and on the day Chara planned to leave for the mountain, it’s not one, but two parties that make off for it’s peak.

Group 1, led by Chara, moves off during the early hours of the morning, seeking to search the furthest part of the mountain by following the river upwards. The path is longer and more winding- however, they are unhampered in when they can travel.

Group 2, led by Ardyn, takes off after the sun has set- due to the needs of multiple members to avoid the sun’s harsh glare. Their route takes them up the closest side of the mountain, which provides an easier path- however, they may only travel whilst the sun is set.

Quite. It wasn't a popular residential area, more industrial, but a few of us either didn't mind the heat or liked having the extra space enough that we'd put up with it.

[All the possible ways he could chime in here would let on that he knows more about the Underground than he should. So he keeps his mouth shut. That's one thing he's good at.]

No cold-blooded types there, huh?

[A shame, really- if it weren't for all the unavoidably awkward parts, it would probably be a fascinating conversation.]

Not in the more literal sense, anyway- I've seen a lizard monster or two, but you wouldn't get an ice elemental down there for love or money.

Would it actually kill them, or...?

[He's got the sort of limited understanding of monsters that is largely borrowed from the knowledge of someone who doesn't have the best opinion of them any longer. For reasons that are obvious enough with context.]

Oh, goodness, no- we wouldn't just leave someone out in the heat to die, there's air conditioning indoors.

I suppose it could eventually kill them if they were trapped out there for long enough, somehow, but in the short term they'd just find it terribly unpleasant.

[Feels like bad planning on his part, but...when you're trapped under a mountain with finite space, you kinda have to learn to make do. That's just how it works.]

Guess we're pretty lucky we don't have anyone like that around here, then. ['Cause this humidity, man.]

True- although I can't help but think someone with the ability to cast ice magic would be nice to have around at the moment. Sadly, I've got about as much talent with that as I do with fire: none at all.

Someone around here might. 'Specially with the new arrivals and all.

[Someone should take a survey. That someone should not, however, be Tim, as it should be someone personable and who gets around and tends to know people - and Tim is none of those things.]

We can only hope. I do believe those charming elven twins have some magical abilities of their own, perhaps I should ask them.

[Honestly, Muffet might have considered doing it herself if she wasn't already trying to handle about thirty other projects at all times.]

Y'know, I'm hearing more and more about those two.

[He hasn't actually met either of them yet, which is probably grounds for needing to do so. Chara, for their part, spoke relatively highly of them - as highly as Chara gets, anyway, which isn't very high at all, and in fact borders on "less inflammatory than usual."]

I'm not surprised, they both seemed like rather exuberant personalities when I spoke to them. Relatively brief conversations, in both cases, but they went quite well.

[Seriously, she's still incredibly happy that Taako traded her that flint set.]

I hear they've pretty much set up the island equivalent of a WalMart and everything.

[Thankfully, yes- she's been on the Surface a full year, and they're hard to avoid.]

Bit of a narrower product range, but I suspect they've got substantially more ethical business practices.

[Look, she may occasionally try to intimidate people into buying her pastries by implying she's planning to eat them alive, but even she thinks some of the things human corporations get up to are a bit much.]

[He snorts. Well, she's not wrong there. He's not sure he's ever met anyone that was happy to work at a WalMart. It's the kind of minimum wage void that sucks you in and spits you back out a lesser man.]

Guess I'll have to check with 'em sometime. I hear they might be able to help make some of those islet houses liveable.

One can only hope. I've been putting in an effort, but at the end of the day there's only so much that can be done with rope.

[Still a surprisingly large amount of things, to be honest, but not everything.]

Yeah, but we've also got not shortage of lumber.

[Which is to say, trees. Even if they'll require some means of cutting said trees to do their best with it.]

True, although cutting and transporting it in the necessary quantities has proven more difficult than I'd like. Most of what's growing on the islets themselves consists of coconut trees, after all, and I'd prefer to avoid cutting down anything that can be a decent source of food...

[Which leaves the longer process of bringing things back from the mainland.]

I hear the coconut, uh...shells? The fibers on them can actually make a pretty good rope.

[He "hears" because he hasn't made anything with said fibers, ha ha, at all, right, nope.]

Oh, that's useful- it would be nice not to be the only supply of thread on the island, given how much we'll need.

How is that supposed to work exactly? Does one weave the fibers together or...?

Pretty much, yeah. Not much of a weaver, but -

[But he's got memories of twining fingertips into a skein of soft pink yarn, meticulously stitching the words across the broad front, that bubble of pride that swelled in a chest and wouldn't burst for anything, because the way he beamed was - ]

[Muffet doesn't have anything like the context she'd need to pick up on what he's feeling right now, which is probably better- or at least less awkward- for everyone involved.]

I do have to respect how adaptable everyone's been. Certainly no one expected to wind up in this situation beforehand.

[He's assuming they can. He hasn't actually asked them, but that's how these places tend to work.]

Can they? That's certainly a surprise, albeit a pleasant one. I do hope no one's tested this yet already...?

I mean, I'm assuming here. That's how it worked last place I was at.

[If it was as simple as wanting them all dead, they didn't have to go to nearly this much effort to try and keep them alive.]
