I’ll take my throne, lay it on a mountain

Who: Our volunteer mountaineers
What: Two parties split up to scale the mountain from two sides, planning to meet at it’s peak. Shenanigans occur along the way.
When: September 13th to 16th
Where: Group 1: G3, H2, G2 || Group 2: F3, F2, G2

Word spreads quickly in a small community such as this. What was originally intended to be a small party turned into something much larger- and on the day Chara planned to leave for the mountain, it’s not one, but two parties that make off for it’s peak.

Group 1, led by Chara, moves off during the early hours of the morning, seeking to search the furthest part of the mountain by following the river upwards. The path is longer and more winding- however, they are unhampered in when they can travel.

Group 2, led by Ardyn, takes off after the sun has set- due to the needs of multiple members to avoid the sun’s harsh glare. Their route takes them up the closest side of the mountain, which provides an easier path- however, they may only travel whilst the sun is set.

I suppose that's possible, but it seems more intense and sudden a change than I'd expect from something natural.

[Even in the frankly ridiculously magical Underground, there was at least a small but obvious region of mist where Snowdin melted into Waterfall. This had felt like stepping into a closed room where someone had been running a heater full-blast.]

We live on an island full of centipede dogs and literal tiger-sharks. Not really sure "natural" entered the equation at any point.

[Just putting that out there. And with that, he yanks his latest coconut shell apart and starts to dip it into the spring.]

A fair point, yes.

["Not natural", he says, to one who has witnessed the Fustercluck. At this point, Muffet needs absolutely no reminding that this island is a weird, weird place.]

Although, honestly, I'm used to even the supernatural being a little more... straightforward. Possibly growing up in a magical society has left me a tad spoilt on that front.

We don't even know the rules of how this place operates. Can't really know if they're breaking them, either.

True. I keep trying to figure them out, but they're not particularly easy to decipher, absent any other way of understanding all this.

Well, you could ask our devoted Storyteller. [He shrugs, rolling one shoulder in a wry way that suggests he doesn't expect very much from said Storyteller. They seem to like talking in a vastly roundabout fashion that doesn't explain things in ways he can easily parse.]

Last I spoke to them, the Storyteller was charmingly polite, but also didn't understand concepts like linear time. I'm not expecting them to make things less confusing on any kind of regular basis.

[Like he implied - he doesn't expect the Storyteller to be clear or concise about things like that in the least.]

Guess that means we're figuring stuff out on our own. [Again.]

Hopefully before something actually eats us.

[That would be a hell of an ironic twist, given that she's a cook.]

This kinda heat doesn't bother you?

Oh, I'm certainly not enjoying it. But I grew up in Hotland- which, in case you're wondering, has exactly the kind of climate you'd think.

Our king has a rather... uncomplicated approach to naming things.

It was the region of our kingdom located deepest below the surface, you could look down and see lava in some places.

[Yeah. He remembers.]

[Or rather, he knows because someone else's soul knew the king rather personally and rather well. Not something you bring up in conversation. Or at all.]

So...pretty damn hot, then.

[Muffet would have so many questions.]

Quite. It wasn't a popular residential area, more industrial, but a few of us either didn't mind the heat or liked having the extra space enough that we'd put up with it.

[All the possible ways he could chime in here would let on that he knows more about the Underground than he should. So he keeps his mouth shut. That's one thing he's good at.]

No cold-blooded types there, huh?

[A shame, really- if it weren't for all the unavoidably awkward parts, it would probably be a fascinating conversation.]

Not in the more literal sense, anyway- I've seen a lizard monster or two, but you wouldn't get an ice elemental down there for love or money.

Would it actually kill them, or...?

[He's got the sort of limited understanding of monsters that is largely borrowed from the knowledge of someone who doesn't have the best opinion of them any longer. For reasons that are obvious enough with context.]

Oh, goodness, no- we wouldn't just leave someone out in the heat to die, there's air conditioning indoors.

I suppose it could eventually kill them if they were trapped out there for long enough, somehow, but in the short term they'd just find it terribly unpleasant.

[Feels like bad planning on his part, but...when you're trapped under a mountain with finite space, you kinda have to learn to make do. That's just how it works.]

Guess we're pretty lucky we don't have anyone like that around here, then. ['Cause this humidity, man.]

True- although I can't help but think someone with the ability to cast ice magic would be nice to have around at the moment. Sadly, I've got about as much talent with that as I do with fire: none at all.

Someone around here might. 'Specially with the new arrivals and all.

[Someone should take a survey. That someone should not, however, be Tim, as it should be someone personable and who gets around and tends to know people - and Tim is none of those things.]

We can only hope. I do believe those charming elven twins have some magical abilities of their own, perhaps I should ask them.

[Honestly, Muffet might have considered doing it herself if she wasn't already trying to handle about thirty other projects at all times.]

[Also, some people might be a bit too nervous to answer questions from a spider monster.]

Y'know, I'm hearing more and more about those two.

[He hasn't actually met either of them yet, which is probably grounds for needing to do so. Chara, for their part, spoke relatively highly of them - as highly as Chara gets, anyway, which isn't very high at all, and in fact borders on "less inflammatory than usual."]

I'm not surprised, they both seemed like rather exuberant personalities when I spoke to them. Relatively brief conversations, in both cases, but they went quite well.

[Seriously, she's still incredibly happy that Taako traded her that flint set.]

I hear they've pretty much set up the island equivalent of a WalMart and everything.

[...does she get that reference?]

[Thankfully, yes- she's been on the Surface a full year, and they're hard to avoid.]

Bit of a narrower product range, but I suspect they've got substantially more ethical business practices.

[Look, she may occasionally try to intimidate people into buying her pastries by implying she's planning to eat them alive, but even she thinks some of the things human corporations get up to are a bit much.]
