stick around and see how it ends [ OPEN MINGLE ]
Who: Anyone!
What: Catch-all Denny mingle for the month of July
When: Throughout all of July, generally
Where: Denny
Warnings: Label your stuff if it comes up but otherwise nothing comes to mind
[Feel free to use this as a catch-all for whatever your character might conceivably be doing here. Are they loitering outside? Delivering supplies/food, or looking to share information about the city under the water? Helping improve the place because god knows it certainly needs it? Cooking? Socializing? Eating? Just wanting to booze it up? I've heard chatter of live music, so whatever you wanna do here, go for it! There are also some newer additions of rudimentary game boards and decks of cards to pass the time.]
[There are nominal rules but if you don't get caught you don't have to deal with them, so you do you.]

[He must have at some point, honestly.]
Is it like what Taako does? He created all of my tea canisters for me. [Honestly, he just has no idea that Taako's an elf in particular. Asgore did not get to experience Lord of the Rings or any associated pop culture really.]
no subject
[Tim is now assuming that Asgore just knows that Taako is one of the elves.]
Might cut down on the work. Though I guess we'd have to figure out how to get sugar. [He scratches at the unshaven scruff at the underside of his jaw, sucking on his lower lip.] Sugarcane, maybe? Unless the elves have that too.
no subject
[Hm. He's sure it's been found around, at least, though that's such a different project on top of what he's already growing that he actually kinda doesn't want to take that on too.]
I will ask around. The apples are coming along well, too - we will not need any sugar for that.
no subject
[Hasn't realized how much he's missed that. Good news.]
Any idea when they'll be ready?
no subject
[And he knows Apples In General, so it's fine. He expects these ones are best suited for the climate.]
no subject
[Still best if he doesn't let on that he knows much about the Underground, right? Yeah. Raises fewer questions that way. He already knows so much more than he should in that vein.]
Can't say I'd be familiar with 'em either, if they're...tropical.
no subject
[He expects the taste will show, even if he's not exactly sure what their color ought to be.]
How have you been? I feel as though we have not spoken lately.
no subject
[Not great. Not terrible? Not awesome. He's never good. He's just...passable. Okay. Fine. Doubts he's really all that unique. Plenty of people just kind of get by here, he's pretty sure.]
Went underwater for a bit. That was...interesting. You?
no subject
[Asgore that wasn't really the question - ]
I suppose it sounds interesting, but water and I do not tend to agree. [All of his magic is fire and his fur takes approximately one hundred years to dry]
no subject
[Tim didn't want to go. Water, as Asgore put it, doesn't agree with Tim either. He did anyway, because Tim's comfort level is generally low on Tim's own list of priorities.]
You do anything in the meantime?
no subject
[Several important things did happen, but, well...this is a reasonably pleasant conversation. No reason to drag the mood down.]
And yourself?
no subject
[Keeping busy.]
no subject
How are the children doing? [with their mom leaving and all]
no subject
[No easy answer for that.]
They're coping. I think. [Better than they did when Wade left - when he and Lup had to tear them apart because they were brawling in the garden like the kids they were. The one time they let themselves be kids, and it was that.]
[He tries not to think about it.]
no subject
[It's easy for the moment of silence to become awkward. Asgore...he's gotten used to having to ask others how his own children are doing, and he hates that.]
It is a shame she left again so soon - [actually it was something of a relief for him but we're not examining those feelings] - but I am glad they got to see her.
no subject
Are you?
[Glad you...got to see her...?]
no subject
I feel as though I should be. But then again, we did not really speak.
[He shrugs lightly. In life, he'd wanted to see Toriel again desperately. He had that strange notion that she might forgive him, and that they could go back to the way things were.
But just before he died, he'd realized it wouldn't happen. He was unforgivable. And look, he was right; even she was glad he'd given up.]
I knew before I came here that I would never see her again. I suppose at least now I know for certain that she will be happy with that.
no subject
[That feels like the wrong thing to say. But he doesn't know whatever the hell else he's meant to say to that. This is an awkward conversation to be having, for sure, and it feels...impolite? Not like Toriel's here to hear about it anyway.]
Sorry. I dunno how to talk about - I mean, I just know it was complicated.
no subject
He's not happy he won't see her again, but he guesses he's not that sad about it either. Not if it was just going to be painful for him and unpleasant for her.]
It was. At least, it was for me. [it was actually very straightforward on her end] I did not imagine the last time I spoke with her would be the last time...but then, very few people know that. And she would not have wanted to hear anything I might say.
no subject
[He doesn't agree with what Asgore did, but - he can understand why he did it. It wasn't like there was no choice. It wasn't like he wanted to, either. You only have to take one look at him to know it.]
Harder to make the decision in the moment.
no subject
...well. It is probably for the best, at any rate. Although I cannot help but think it would have been kinder if our positions were reversed.
[Toriel deserved to be with the children. They would certainly prefer to have her. And Asgore had intended to go away anyhow, off with the others where he couldn't do any more harm.
...he shouldn't say that.]
I have been here some time already, after all.
no subject
You're here. She isn't. She might come back, or she might not. Can't worry about what might happen if she does until it does. [It's so much easier to talk about these things with some distance. Even if he doesn't have quite as much distance as he'd like to.]
no subject
[Anyway. Fuck this topic.]
I mentioned the cocoa and the cider to Ren. She seems very excited about it!
no subject
'S a crime she probably hasn't had cocoa before, so I guess we're gonna have to show her.
no subject
We shall have to make it very well, then! [which is a concern with that first batch, but]
