[Feel free to use this as a catch-all for whatever your character might conceivably be doing here. Are they loitering outside? Delivering supplies/food, or looking to share information about the city under the water? Helping improve the place because god knows it certainly needs it? Cooking? Socializing? Eating? Just wanting to booze it up? I've heard chatter of live music, so whatever you wanna do here, go for it! There are also some newer additions of rudimentary game boards and decks of cards to pass the time.]

Not a great deal. Just tending to my plants.

[Several important things did happen, but, well...this is a reasonably pleasant conversation. No reason to drag the mood down.]

And yourself?

Aside from learning to swim? [And hating himself for it, because he kind of hates water?] Keeping this place running best as I can. Y'know how it is.

[Keeping busy.]

[Asgore nods. Yeah, he knows how it is.]

How are the children doing? [with their mom leaving and all]

They're...well.

[No easy answer for that.]

They're coping. I think. [Better than they did when Wade left - when he and Lup had to tear them apart because they were brawling in the garden like the kids they were. The one time they let themselves be kids, and it was that.]

[He tries not to think about it.]

That is good.

[It's easy for the moment of silence to become awkward. Asgore...he's gotten used to having to ask others how his own children are doing, and he hates that.]

It is a shame she left again so soon - [actually it was something of a relief for him but we're not examining those feelings] - but I am glad they got to see her.

[Yeah. "Good." He's not sure he trusts the calm before the storm to be indicative of a greater storm, or if they're both just...used to it by now. Accepting that the people in their lives will be temporary, because they always are.]

[Glad you...got to see her...?]

I feel as though I should be. But then again, we did not really speak.

[He shrugs lightly. In life, he'd wanted to see Toriel again desperately. He had that strange notion that she might forgive him, and that they could go back to the way things were.

But just before he died, he'd realized it wouldn't happen. He was unforgivable. And look, he was right; even she was glad he'd given up.]

I knew before I came here that I would never see her again. I suppose at least now I know for certain that she will be happy with that.

'Least you don't...have to see her...either?

[That feels like the wrong thing to say. But he doesn't know whatever the hell else he's meant to say to that. This is an awkward conversation to be having, for sure, and it feels...impolite? Not like Toriel's here to hear about it anyway.]

Sorry. I dunno how to talk about - I mean, I just know it was complicated.

[Asgore frowns down at his basket of pods for a moment. Is that a good thing? It doesn't feel like one - but then again, it certainly doesn't feel anything like when he lost her, either.

He's not happy he won't see her again, but he guesses he's not that sad about it either. Not if it was just going to be painful for him and unpleasant for her.]

It was. At least, it was for me. [it was actually very straightforward on her end] I did not imagine the last time I spoke with her would be the last time...but then, very few people know that. And she would not have wanted to hear anything I might say.

It's easy to look at someone else's decisions and judge them.

[He doesn't agree with what Asgore did, but - he can understand why he did it. It wasn't like there was no choice. It wasn't like he wanted to, either. You only have to take one look at him to know it.]

Harder to make the decision in the moment.

[Asgore frowns a little. He feels like he should argue that - he really ought to be judged - but also he just doesn't want to get into it. Maybe it's courtesy; probably it's cowardice.]

...well. It is probably for the best, at any rate. Although I cannot help but think it would have been kinder if our positions were reversed.

[Toriel deserved to be with the children. They would certainly prefer to have her. And Asgore had intended to go away anyhow, off with the others where he couldn't do any more harm.

I have been here some time already, after all.

Not really sure it matters what would've been. 'S not what happened. Most we can do right now is just...make the best of it.

You're here. She isn't. She might come back, or she might not. Can't worry about what might happen if she does until it does. [It's so much easier to talk about these things with some distance. Even if he doesn't have quite as much distance as he'd like to.]

I mentioned the cocoa and the cider to Ren. She seems very excited about it!

Does she even know what those are? Wait - yeah, no, she'd know what cider is, at least. [Back when the Storyteller gave them jugs of the stuff, before the sun died.]

'S a crime she probably hasn't had cocoa before, so I guess we're gonna have to show her.

[He arches his eyebrows - Asgore is in the dark about Ren's entire backstory, and he hadn't realized from her reaction that she was maybe not familiar with cocoa.]

We shall have to make it very well, then! [which is a concern with that first batch, but]

Hopefully that'll...work out. Never made cocoa before. Never made a lotta things here before. I'm kind of not great with...

[Cooking? Baking? Food? Eating in general? Survival?]

Running is, it's a learning curve.

I am not...the best at baking.

[Honestly, he's far from the worst either. Even if he never replicated Toriel's pie, you can't spend that much time practicing baking and be terrible at it. But he'll always compare himself to her.]

But that is not quite the same thing, I suppose. We will both simply have to learn.

Maybe Muffet could give us some pointers. She's good at that kinda thing.

[There's a reason she's responsible for most of the cooking in Denny. Tim sure as hell doesn't manage it.]

Oh. Yes. I suppose we could ask her that.

[Asgore's not entirely sure Muffet likes him very much. They rarely seem to cross paths, and - well, he can't really blame anybody for disliking him, after getting to know Frisk.]

Unless you'd...uh, prefer not to?

[As far as he's aware, they don't have reason to be at odds, right? Or maybe they do. Maybe he just hasn't been paying enough attention.]

Oh, no, no. I'm sure she would have a good idea - I did not even know she knew how to make liquor!

[He smiles, pushing all of that aside. It's really about Muffet's feelings - as long as she's willing, he has no trouble with her.

(Frankly, he doesn't even really know why he and Tim aren't at odds.)]

Neither did I. But I guess it's not as complicated as you'd think. Just...ferment stuff until it ages right. When we can figure out how to make good coffee, that's when I'll be excited.

[Not that Tim drinks. Not that he can.]

Everybody does seem very interested in coffee! I'm afraid I do not know a lot about it myself - it has never been my preference.

[Like. Obviously.]

But it grows in the same climates as cacao, does it not? I am sure we could at least produce the beans, and then try to figure it out from there.

Caffeine makes most stuff easier to handle.

[Including, say, nicotine withdrawal. Not that he's speaking from experience or anything.]

Might be able to, yeah. Could always ask the Storyteller for some coffee plants. I'm pretty sure some people around here have some, but just...can't figure out how to make it real good coffee yet.

Perhaps I will ask them for a book, then. The text on processing cacao was quite helpful.

[Add that to the list - his garden is getting a bit extensive for one person, but at least it sounds like coffee plants are already around.]
