Ruins Mingle Log!

Who: Newt Geiszler ohnehalfte and EVERYONE
What: So a bunch of people headed up towards the ruins, so they've got to all run into each other and start to congregate, right???
When: Evening of the mingle log and onwardish.
Where: The Ruins
Warnings: Um...same as the mingle log?



The beach curves up a gentle slope until it meets forest, some manner of building visible through the trees. Further exploration of this area will reveal a dilapidated building of sorts; the architecture is indiscernible to even the most skilled eye. Despite looking as if it has seen better days, there are areas that offer some form of shelter...and who knows what else. Just because it appears uninhabited doesn’t mean you won’t wind up pleasantly, or unpleasantly, surprised.


[ooc: Hey y'all! I thought this might be a good place to start getting larger groups of characters together to do some exploring, settling down, banding together and figuring out rations, etc. Feel free to throw up any threads of your own for specific things like exploration groups, a gathering in the entrance hall, whatever strikes your fancy or that you think your character would organize. Have a party!

Ruin Exploration Group

[Once there's a large enough group of people in the entrance area, Newt's going to find the center and cup his hands around his mouth and start doing some shouting again.]

Hey! Listen up! [his voice is absolutely loud and grating, and this place echos. Not that Newt's going to wait for people to quiet down before he keeps shouting] We need a couple groups of people who are willing to go explore this place so we can make sure nothing's going to come out of the shadows and eat us! So come talk to me over there--[he pauses, indicating a side corner]--if you're interested, because I'm definitely going with one of these groups!

[aaaaand with that announcement, Newt is going to lower his hands and walk back towards his area with his stuff.]

[ Luna jogs up, Lycanroc not far behind her. Both are looking a little worn out at this point, but!!! Those ruins!!!! They look neat! ]

Chiffon and I will go! Right, girl?

[ the large pokemon at her side barks eagerly, stomping her front two paws into the ground eagerly!! Les go! Les go right now! ]

[Omg, it's a dog. Wait...but not just any dog. Sorry, Newt's distracted for a moment from the whole exploration thing because--]

....is that a Lycanroc?

[Muffet's been wandering around the entrance for a little bit, examining the settled area and having the occasional polite chat. She heads over to Newt once he's done talking.]

Congratulations on taking the initiative- it's good to have a goal for people to organize around. I'd be happy to explore, if you don't mind. I'm quite curious about what we could find.

[Newt blinks as Muffet comes over, but the corner of his mouth quirks upwards in greeting] Oh, yeah, totally! The more the merrier, definitely. We can cover more ground with more people, and the sooner we get this place explored, the sooner we can focus on, like...food and clean water and stuff.

[Loud shouting in a crowded room is like, text book side quest material and your local AAA protagonist is drawn to the sound like moths to a flame. So Shepard approaches, giving Newt a curious and slightly unamused eyebrow raise.]

Color me interested. Do you have any plans for this exploration you want to get up to, or are you playing it fast and loose?

[Newt straightens from where he was rifling around in his pack, and places his hands on his hips as he looks at the woman talking to him] At current, my plan was pretty much get groups of people together to explore and report back and hopefully not get killed. [yep, his turn to arch an eyebrow now] Why?

[Asriel sounds a little uncertain of himself. Not so much because the ruins scare him, but because he's afraid of screwing up.]

I um... have some fire magic. If it gets real dark in there.

[Newt frowns a little, concerned only because...child. He thinks, anyway. It's a small goat-like creature. It looks like a kid. (...haha.) But if he's learned one thing, it's not to underestimate anyone at this point]

Well, that's definitely more magic than me.

[He's planning on making sure the groups are pretty decently sized, anyway.]

Have you explored a lot of stuff before?

[Ringing in his over-sensitive ears aside, Edward is interested in the proposal, so he wanders on over.]

I'll come along. Can probably handle whatever's lurking in there 'long as it's physical, and I'm damn good at keeping mental maps.

[Actually he already has a vague sense of the layout of the place, but that particular power is kind of weird to explain in any detail.]

[...I mean, listen, Newt is a lot more used to seeing creatures that definitely aren't human than he used to be. But it's still just a little bit...jarring...so he's going to stare for a moment, though it's more out of curiosity than anything--before he blinks and focuses on what this guy just said]

Yeah? That'd come in super handy, dude, because all of my equipment is shot to shit, so I probably couldn't record a map even if I wanted to.

[Yep the old man is right there.]

I want to check on people first and make sure nobody's hurt, but after that I'd be up for exploring these ruins.

Oh--hey. [It's not unfriendly???] Yeah, that sounds good. I figured I'd give people time to settle just a little before we'd head out anyway. I'll let you know when we're going?

Can I help? [ Clementine's approaches, hoping he doesn't say no straight away, like some people do. She knows she's little, but she wants to help. She holds up her handgun to help her case. ]

I have my gun, in case there's anything bad in there.

[alsdfh More kids. Newt wishes he was more surprised, but honestly he has a healthy wealth of experience in kids and teenagers that are way more capable than him in so many ways, either via superpowers, magic or otherwise. He eyes the gun a bit, before turning his attention back to her face]

How much experience do you have with using it? [it's not really judgemental, simply a question] Just so I can make sure I can balance the groups between people who are more experienced with fighting and people who are less experienced with fighting.

[One of the people to approach Newt is a young man who looks like he was brought here mid-baseball game. The Batter had taken a look inside the ruins, although to the extent that it could only be considered sticking his head in the door. An opportunity to explore further could provide useful.]

I will join with the exploration. I am also capable of combating any impurities that may be encountered.

[The Batter sounds as emotionless as ever but there's a sense that he believes firmly in his statements.]

[...creepy. Newt's arching an eyebrow. If asked, he'll say he doesn't judge a book by it's emotionless cover, but that'd be a lie.] As long as you don't decide that a member of your party is an "impurity," dude, that sounds good. I'm gonna get a headcount, and then I'll put some groups together.

[Nyx approaches Newt once he's done with his speech and returned to the designated corner, readjusting one of the straps of his backpack with his bad hand.]

Exploring this place is probably a good idea. No idea what kind of monsters might be crawling around.

[Newt's glancing up from where he'd been rifling through his own pack--before he straightens, hands going to his hips] Yeah, that's what I thought, too. Better to figure out where to avoid now than be surprised when we're asleep. Or even surprised when we're not asleep.

Heaven's forbid. What an interesting turn of events this has been. Across the ruins, Frisk looks up, catching their eye as the two share their thoughts on the proposition without a word.

Only then does Chara approach the man, smile prevalent as always.]

Greetings. I pray I am not too late to volunteer my sibling and I for duty?

[Newt's head jerks up from where he's rooting through his backpack, and nearly jolts. "Kid with a striped shirt" definitely rings a bell...and Newt's getting slowly to his feet. But...this is a different world. It's probably a different kid??? Yeah. Totally]

Uh.....yeah. No, you're not too late. What's your guys' ability levels when it comes to fighting?

[He's got more pressing matters, unfortunately. But a little advice doesn't hurt.]

Do we have the materials to make a map out of what you find?

Not yet. [Newt's digging through his backpack at the moment and hasn't glanced back up to see who he's talking to] My tablet doesn't seem to be working yet, otherwise I'd say we could draw in on there, but I don't have a notebook or anything.
