Ruins Mingle Log!

Who: Newt Geiszler [personal profile] ohnehalfte and EVERYONE
What: So a bunch of people headed up towards the ruins, so they've got to all run into each other and start to congregate, right???
When: Evening of the mingle log and onwardish.
Where: The Ruins
Warnings: Um...same as the mingle log?

The beach curves up a gentle slope until it meets forest, some manner of building visible through the trees. Further exploration of this area will reveal a dilapidated building of sorts; the architecture is indiscernible to even the most skilled eye. Despite looking as if it has seen better days, there are areas that offer some form of shelter...and who knows what else. Just because it appears uninhabited doesn’t mean you won’t wind up pleasantly, or unpleasantly, surprised.

[ooc: Hey y'all! I thought this might be a good place to start getting larger groups of characters together to do some exploring, settling down, banding together and figuring out rations, etc. Feel free to throw up any threads of your own for specific things like exploration groups, a gathering in the entrance hall, whatever strikes your fancy or that you think your character would organize. Have a party!

Edit: Additionally, there is now an OOC Post for those that want to handwave their character signing up for ruin exploration]

"Hopefully not get killed"? So you're hoping to just throw people out into the unknown without any guidance whatsoever?

[That's a completely reassuring thing to hear from someone who seems to be taking on some authority around here.]

Are you throwing any volunteer into this sort of mission, or are you going to vet people to make sure you're sending in people who can handle themselves?

APOLOGIES FOR HOW LATE THIS IS

[personal profile] tenthstreetbred 2017-08-16 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Well that's an interesting bit of phrasing.]

"How these places work"? What's that supposed to mean?

[He speaks with the tone of a man with experience of odd situations like this. But his logic, no matter how potentially morally grey it is, is sound. Shepard lets out a huff of breath.]

That's certainly a point.

[However it further solidifies that this man doesn't have a solid plan so her services certainly are needed.]

All right. Has any reconnaissance been done on these ruins or are we going in blind?
tenthstreetbred: (Skeptical)

u r so good 2 me

[As someone who within the last year or so of her life had to make a decision that resulted in the deaths of over 300,000 people, she can understand that moral quandaries are rarely black and white.

She doesn't look satisfied with that answer but it's expected. It's not like she has the entire might of the Alliance military at her back that could send out some scouts first before sending her and others in to investigate. Though perhaps that is more of an optimistic thought of her people than they quite rightly deserve due to their track record.]

Well. I suppose there's nothing to it other than making sure something of value is found and that everyone going in comes back in one piece.

[Shepard, personally, has an amazing track record in that department. Uh. Other than the aforementioned fact in that first bit of narration but that was a bit of a fluke and out of her hands. Really.

She looks at Newt incredulously.]

Ok, hold up. I've had a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that this might be a different plane of existence entirely. But you're telling me that this has happened to you before?

[And she thought her luck was bad...]
tenthstreetbred: (Confused)

it's all good! time is meaningless and we're all here for a good time

[personal profile] tenthstreetbred 2017-08-28 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds like someone's playing a cosmic trick on you then.

[Wow Shepard, that's so kind and sympathetic of you to say...]

Has there been any similarities between the places you've been taken to? Any pattern that could help establish why this has happened to you so often?
tenthstreetbred: (Question)

[personal profile] tenthstreetbred 2017-09-04 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's not the only one? Shepard would think that maybe the Collectors were back in business and kidnapping people, but this is on a cosmic scale that they could never achieve.

That death rule though...]

And here I thought being brought back from the dead was a rare thing to happen.

[To Shepard's knowledge, only two people in history have ever successfully pulled that off, and one of them is technically debatable. The other is currently pretty sure she's dead again anyway.]

It sounds like you've got a firm grasp of all of this then. Do you have any plans to investigate this place further to try and find out what is happening in this new death trap?
tenthstreetbred: (Over the shoulder)

[personal profile] tenthstreetbred 2017-09-16 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
[She winces at that death count.]

Oof. Sorry to hear that you've died that much. I know that sort of thing isn't pleasant. It's too bad we won't know which is which in probability until someone kicks it.

[It's too much of a risk to test so Shepard plans on making sure everyone stays alive for as long as humanely possible.]

We're going old school here. Playing telephone only we don't have any cans to talk through. I wish I had some of my tech from back home; that omni-tool would be real useful right now...

[So would her armor or weapons but the lack of communication between these groups is the greater danger right now.]
tenthstreetbred: (Serious)

[personal profile] tenthstreetbred 2017-09-26 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
[He sidesteps the death discussion and Shepard can't blame him. She never talked about her death beyond a one off joke to Joker and even then she had felt scummy afterwards. She knows her squad had wanted to talk to her about it, maybe dive into what happened and what it was like but haha that's a conversation for well-adjusted and healthy people. And no one has time for that when there's a war on.]

It leaves us vulnerable. We won't know if half the people on this island are in danger until we're in the danger ourselves.

[God, that generator would have been amazing.]

If we don't find any more technology, eventually we'll have to set up some kind of communication system though it probably will have to be more primitive than what either of us are used to.

[It sounds like he's got technology that is at least in the same family of the stuff she's used to.]
tenthstreetbred: (Passive)

[personal profile] tenthstreetbred 2017-10-04 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
[She scoffs and nods a bit.]

I agree. It does. But it's doable.

[She looks around to the greater ruins around the two of them and then back to Newt.]

I should go. When we get more solid groups for exploration I'll be there.
