What: So a bunch of people headed up towards the ruins, so they've got to all run into each other and start to congregate, right???
When: Evening of the mingle log and onwardish.
Where: The Ruins
Warnings: Um...same as the mingle log?

The beach curves up a gentle slope until it meets forest, some manner of building visible through the trees. Further exploration of this area will reveal a dilapidated building of sorts; the architecture is indiscernible to even the most skilled eye. Despite looking as if it has seen better days, there are areas that offer some form of shelter...and who knows what else. Just because it appears uninhabited doesn’t mean you won’t wind up pleasantly, or unpleasantly, surprised.

[ooc: Hey y'all! I thought this might be a good place to start getting larger groups of characters together to do some exploring, settling down, banding together and figuring out rations, etc. Feel free to throw up any threads of your own for specific things like exploration groups, a gathering in the entrance hall, whatever strikes your fancy or that you think your character would organize. Have a party!

Dude. No, but seriously, that'll come in super handy? Not that we have any sort of cold storage, which could be a bit of an issue, but the ability to create food will hopefully keep us from collectively starving.

Happy to help, dearie. I suspect we've already got enough to manage survival, what I'm concerned about at this point is how we're going to cope beyond that.

If we can hit the survival mark, I'll consider it a win, especially with this many people. [Newt glances around] We're off to a decent start with this gathering, but there's more to be done, I think, before we one hundred percent hit a stable "survival" shelf, so to speak.

Mm. Perhaps I should clarify- I think we've got enough to manage survival, in the absence of other troubles. We should be fine if nothing else happens, no storms or dangerous wildlife, and I have absolutely no faith that nothing else is going to happen.

[Newt can't help but snort at that] Yeah, me neither. So we've definitely got more prep work to do if we're gonna be prepared for those things also.

I think my first concern is extreme weather- I admit living in the Underground for most of my life may have given me an exaggerated idea of the dangers, but I've heard places with this sort of climate sometimes have hurricanes?

Yeah, and it also gets pretty cold at night. So if we wind up making this our base of operations, we'll have to find a way to insulate it somehow. Exposure can cause a lot of health problems, so the more we can get that under control ahead of time, the better off we'll be.

I can weave silk, maybe keep out some of the wind, but I'm not sure how well it would work for insulation by itself...

Shit, if it can keep out some of the wind, that's a pretty good start when it comes to insulation. Way better than it just being open, anyway. That could also help keep some of the heat from any fires we light in rather than letting it out into the cold.

Mm, provided you don't light the fires too close by- if I recall correctly, silk is flammable.

I mean, you definitely recall correctly, so we'll definitely keep any fires away from the silk. That would be shitty if they just burnt down, not to mention a waste of time and energy.

Exceedingly, yes. I also have to wonder about the other end of the spectrum- how likely do you think flooding is, here? The sea hasn't seemed terribly rough the last day or so, but I have no idea how common storms are, here...

Honestly, if there's storms, considering we're so close to the ocean it's probably pretty likely. [he glances up towards the ceiling] If there was a way to make some storage up off the ground, that would honestly be pretty benefitial. It could save supplies from both flooding and possibly any animals that might try and take it.

[Muffet follows his gaze, eyeing the ceiling speculatively.]

I could probably do some kind of netting, if you think that would be helpful...

That would be super helpful. [Newt grins at Muffet, widely] Like, seriously, though. It could save us a lot of grief on so many levels if we managed to put together some sort of food stores.

[She smiles warmly back at him.]

If nothing else, I'm sure we're all on the same page when it comes to wanting to avoid starving.

[Newt can't help but laugh at that, once] Yeah, no kidding. At least we've all got that in common.

[he rubs the back of his neck] So anyway, I'm gonna see if we can get enough people who wanna go that we can have more than one group, so I'll let you know when I get that sorted out?

[Newt shrugs a shoulder at that, huffing a bit] I'm just not super keen on getting eaten by something that could've been avoided, that's all.

A resolution that we can all appreciate, I assure you.
