There are also some newer additions of rudimentary game boards and decks of cards to pass the time.]

[Hello to you, too, Michael? He's got a little pile of nuts for his lorby - which it is eating on top of the table because we have health standards here - and a piece of fruit for himself, and he's here now!]

How do you stand having to stop everything to take care of your stupid body all the time?

[ Tex smirks a little, amused. Michael isn't the first person she's heard express a similar sentiment, but he has a way of putting it that she just finds refreshingly honest.

In response to his question, she shrugs. ]

I guess I've gotten used to it. At first I would forget until I started feeling shitty, and that was no fun, so I just learned to be more consistent about it. And food tastes good—as long as it's something that tastes good, anyway.

I never minded eating. It's just the being forced to that I don't like.

[He did it socially! Like drinking! If things were still normal, he might have even done it once or twice in the time he's been here.]

Sleeping's a nightmare, though. [.....] What're you making?

Sleeping is the worst. That one I've never really found balance on—I just push, push, push, until I crash.

[ She shows him the mat she's weaving when he expresses interest. ]

Working on a mat for the gym. I don't know if it'll be as good as a modern one but at least it'll be something. I'm going to make a second one like this and then sew them together and stuff it full of wool.

Same. It's just so weird, lying around being unconscious for hours. Anything could happen.

[He peers at the mat, picking at one of the reeds lightly.]

It's for...exercising on...?

Yes. I mostly intend it for sparring matches but people could use it for other purposes.

[ His other statement makes her frown slightly. ]

I don't like the idea of being unconscious for so long but it's not like I can help it.

[He guesses that makes sense? Exercise is something he's basically never done, given that his body is a construct and it wouldn't do anything but make him sweat.]

True. I just put it off until I can't. Even though there's really not a lot to do around here at night.

[ She smirks a little at that. ]

How long have you lasted without sleep?

Two, three nights? If I don't wear myself out doing something.

[He does tend to avoid heavy physical activity, if only because it feels...different, now. It's discomfiting.]

Florida sleeps at night too, but my weird pot is awake.

[ She's heard him refer to his lorby as Florida before; it's kind of amusing to her that he picked that name. She smirks. ]

Why'd you pick that name for him, by the way?

Have you seen him? He's the physical manifestation of...Florida.

[Jason too, but Jason looks normal until you talk to him.]

[ She looks at the lorby for a second. ]

You know? I think I get it.

I knew a fellow agent who was named after that state and... Well, yeah. I get it.

[ She doesn't really know if the other agents talked about agents taking on traits of the state they were named after, but it makes sense to her. ]

[He has no idea what your Agent Florida was like at all, but he can imagine.]

I have a friend from Florida. He's very...interesting.

The Florida I knew used to tell the men on his squad that they could call him "daddy".

He's harmless, really, just...so very dumb.

Oh, I don't think Florida was dumb. Strange? Yes. Dumb? No, not really.

[ She pauses and glances to the side, as if someone would overhear. As if it would matter if someone did. ]

I think he used to stay off the leader board on purpose.

I meant Jason, he's definitely dumb. And strange.

[ She nods; he understands. ]

What was Jason like?

He was...well, I said he was dumb, and that's very true. But it was still like he knew more than any of the rest of us, sometimes. About...I don't know, life?

[What he's trying to say is that Jason is the only damn person with any emotional intelligence in this bar, but he doesn't have the emotional intelligence to identify this.]

If you could pick your way through all the insane details, there was good stuff in his stories sometimes. That must be why Janet likes him. Janet, my best friend, she's...maybe married to him or something.

[ She smiles faintly. ]

He sounds like someone I know.

[ Caboose isn't exactly what she'd call wise, but he has some interesting insights on things. ]

I bet you miss him.

I do. I really do. I think he'd get along well here - he'd be really excited about all the robots.

You know, I think that'd be Caboose's favorite thing about this place, too.

[ Tex adjusts the frond she'd been weaving into place, tugging too hard, and the whole mat seems to shift, going from square to diamond-shaped. ]

Ugh. I keep doing that.

[ She starts adjusting the fronds to get it to go back to its correct shape again. ]

[Huh. Michael picks up some of the spare fronds and sort of looks at them, like he's maybe thinking about being helpful.]

You know about Transformers? Jason loves them, they're robots that turn into cars.

Yeah.

[ She doesn't see what this has to do with anything, but she also doesn't ask any follow-up questions. She's too busy trying to fix her mat. ]
