[Soccer Kid, the true final boss that managed to be intensely difficult to the extreme, and key to several moments of profound and undying frustration. Distance, at least, has allowed for clarity, and a renewed interest in the thrill of the game.]
form two goalposts
the first to get to ten between the goalposts wins

Okay. Easy. Give me the ball so I can kick it.

we do not yet have goals
[Granted, they didn't set these up beforehand, but they hadn't thought this was necessary; they did, after all, have to learn the ropes of how soccer is played before they could set about sending the ball careening into their opponent's goalposts, and assumed such would be the case here.]
no subject
So many steps! Okay, goals first.
[She pulls off her knapsack and unhooks the fishing pole from it. She sets it firmly in the sand, then, with some space in between, sets down a sack of sugar from within the bag.]
One goal? Two goals?

[The Drifter straightens, examines their handiwork, and nods. Good.]
[They indicate her goal with a pointing finger, then theirs.]
first to 10 wins

[Without any indication that the game has begun, Myia sprints for the ball, trying to steal it from the Drifter. If she has to, she'll tackle them to the ground to get it.
With the barest of knowledge of how soccer works, Myia is ready and willing to make this a full contact sport.]
no subject
[She's not at all like the child in the soccer arena - the child who would, without hesitation, bowl them over and trample them through the dust with very little consideration for their well-being in the spirit of scoring a goal before they could. She's larger, for one, and full-body contact with her is liable to leave them damaged.]
[The Drifter's foot slams into the ball and launches it across the makeshift field as they strafe to one side. They'll prioritize their own safety over the ball, but let it not be said they won't try to manage both.]
no subject
She tries to take off running towards it, using her wings for a little more momentum, but she overshoots herself and, when she reaches the ball, she tumbles over it and hits the ground. Still, it's in her grasp now.]
no subject
[Their sword unfurls in a streak of blue light, their feet squaring against the ground in a wide, firm-planted stance. They're ready to guard their goal against her, whatever strategy she employs.]
no subject
Yeah, she kicks hard.]
no subject
[It goes arcing high instead of zipping across field, which probably makes it a good deal easier to counter.]
no subject
She lands a little off-base, though, leaving an opening for the Drifter towards her goal.]
no subject
[They can also appreciate an opening, immediately trying to capitalize by streaking for the ball with a skid across the meadow and ramming it with their heel.]
no subject
Myia lands on her butt and stares after it, groaning.]
I was supposed to win!

[You see? It's not over yet.]
no subject
She's single minded and doesn't understand how soccer works. Please forgive this dumb bug girl.]
no subject
[Good enough to counter with a powerful kick that launches the ball towards Myia at head-height, enough to send clods of dirt spraying.]
no subject
She catches the ball against her chest, though it had enough force in it to send her skidding backwards and almost tumbling again. She throws it high into the air and jumps up again with the aid of her wings, kicking hard towards the goal in a downward angle.]
1/2
2/2
[It's probably lost in the ensuing kick, and the Drifter isn't there to counter, meaning that Myia scores a goal against them. But the Drifter is too busy standing there looking deeply disgruntled and offended to care.]
no subject
[She looks very pleased with herself, though she did miss the message as she landed. It could bear repeating.]
no subject
do not use hands in soccer
no subject
[Honestly, did she not mention that she's never experienced soccer? How could she have known this? She glowers grumpily at the Drifter's sighing and being offended and all that, folding her arms.]
So my point doesn't count, is that it?
no subject
[A period. Soccer rules are serious business, okay?]
weapons ok
wings ok
no hands
no subject
Fine! No hands! Zero points for Myia!
