[The ball streaks across the field, and though she dives for it, she is a little too late. It safely passes through her goal.

Myia lands on her butt and stares after it, groaning.

I was supposed to win!

[Oh, Myia, it's all right; the Drifter didn't win against soccer kid for quite a while. Their HUD widens to accommodate a slightly larger message:]

drifter | myia
----------------
1       | 0
        |
        |
        |

[You see? It's not over yet.]

[She squints at the message. Ah, so that's how it is. She's already forgotten how many goals they agreed upon to finish, but she goes back to retrieve the ball and kicks it with no small amount of force straight at the Drifter's goal.

She's single minded and doesn't understand how soccer works. Please forgive this dumb bug girl.

[Single-minded is good, as far as the Drifter is concerned. But they have been at this for quite a while, and hence are rather good at soccer.]

[Good enough to counter with a powerful kick that launches the ball towards Myia at head-height, enough to send clods of dirt spraying.]

[Myia, meanwhile, has vaguely heard of soccer, and doesn't even know hands aren't allowed.

She catches the ball against her chest, though it had enough force in it to send her skidding backwards and almost tumbling again. She throws it high into the air and jumps up again with the aid of her wings, kicking hard towards the goal in a downward angle.

no hands

[It's probably lost in the ensuing kick, and the Drifter isn't there to counter, meaning that Myia scores a goal against them. But the Drifter is too busy standing there looking deeply disgruntled and offended to care.]

What'd you say? Are you mad I got one? Not good sportsmanship!

[She looks very pleased with herself, though she did miss the message as she landed. It could bear repeating.]

[The Drifter does not quite sigh, but a hoarse little puff of air rasps behind their mantle as they clarify the message.]

do not use hands in soccer
flyfisher: (5)

[personal profile] flyfisher 2018-05-20 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
What! You should've said that sooner!

[Honestly, did she not mention that she's never experienced soccer? How could she have known this? She glowers grumpily at the Drifter's sighing and being offended and all that, folding her arms.]

So my point doesn't count, is that it?
hyperlit: (hello potion seller)

no hands.

[A period. Soccer rules are serious business, okay?]

weapons ok
wings ok
no hands

[Myia kicks at the sand angrily.]

Fine! No hands! Zero points for Myia!
hyperlit: (but i'll have mine)

[personal profile] hyperlit 2018-05-21 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
ok

[It turns out the Drifter has a competitive streak. They turn back to the ball, batting it into the center of the field, and stand with their chin lifted. That doesn't mean they're going to be completely unfair here. They did not, after all, tell her the rules.]

can still take first shot

[personal profile] flyfisher 2018-05-22 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Sulkily, Myia trudges over to the center of the field where the ball lies. She also has a competitive streak, if that wasn't clear by now, and she takes a running start and launches the ball with a kick aimed over the Drifter's head.]
hyperlit: (◈ ᴀ ɴᴀʀʀᴏᴡ ᴘᴀᴛʜ ᴛʀᴀᴠᴇʟᴇᴅ)

[personal profile] hyperlit 2018-05-22 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
[The Drifter ducks to avoid the ball rather than risk a potentially harmful impact. Their constitution is rather fragile, after all, and while the soccer child could never injure them, this is no mere child - and she's angry, to boot. Better to lose a game and remain in good health than to sacrifice their well-being over a ball.]

[They leap backwards several paces, jogging in an attempt to catch the ball before it reaches too far into their end of the field.]
flyfisher: (2)

[personal profile] flyfisher 2018-05-22 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
[She starts chasing after the ball as well, trying to block its progress if the Drifter happens to knock it back.

Although, playing soccer one on one means if you've got just the one acting as forward, there's no one for defense.

[She's trying to block them at every turn, meaning it's time to get inventive. Which they do, gladly - their blade materializing in a spurt of bright cerulean, unfurling at their side so that they can slam it into the ball with the flat of it.]

[That'll send it arcing high for sure.]
