[CLOSED] Blunt Force Trauma
Who: Doctor Faust (
wanderingdoctorfaust), Ginko (
onegreeneye), Legion (
forwearemany), and Yukio Okumura (
reflash)!
What: Faust doesn't know the Creeper dance
When: Backdated to November 4th
Where: The Ensō Clinic & Infirmary (located on square B6)
Warnings: Violence, gore, injury and injury care - additional CWs will be marked as necessary!
It's well into the afternoon when the unmistakable din of an explosion going off ripples across the eastern side of Ensō like a shockwave, in of itself quite alarming, but perhaps not entirely unexpected per se - the Creepers have already had many hours to distribute themselves across the island, and several unlucky individuals have probably had some very close shaves with the horrible creatures already.
Unfortunately, a quick gaze upon the horizon will reveal ground zero of this latest Creeper detonation...and it's right in front of the clinic, a small crater sitting right outside of what is left of the doorway, the menacing hole in the ground still visibly smoking even from a distance. A worryingly large chunk of the building's exterior has been lost in the explosion, large piles of singed dirt flung carelessly aside and leaving the entire entryway looking more akin to an excavation site than the front door of a makeshift medical facility. Here's hoping nobody got hurt...
--EARLIER--
The workday has been remarkably quiet thus far, almost dead silent outside of the good doctor's upbeat humming and occasional reminder of how much he appreciates young Ginko and young Yukio's vigilant efforts in maintaining the facilities. The peace lasts for the entirety of the morning and then some, before Faust suddenly steps outside of the storage room mid-stock check, mumbling to himself about hearing something outside. Whatever is actually being said quickly becomes indecipherable once he's outside, though the tiniest hint of confusion continues filtering through the doorways of the clinic for a while longer.
Until he suddenly stops mid-sentence, shrill voice replaced by the muffled hissing of a very disgruntled force of nature. There's barely any time for Faust to get a foot back in the door, and-!
"GINKO-!!!"
-he is cut off by the ear-shattering cacophony of the Creeper's destructive force, a pandemonium of dirt bricks being obliterated, straw roofing going up in flames, and what sounds horrifyingly similar to a human body being hurled against a wall with cringe-inducing amounts of force.
Whatever Faust was going to say before has been lost to the ruckus - worse still, now that the external walls have finished audibly collapsing, it's eerily silent. If not for the intense scent of sulphur now abruptly present in the air, it'd be almost as if nothing had happened at all...

The clinic is a valuable resource to the organics of this community. A number of their allies are organic. This includes Faust-
The sound of the explosion reaches them.
Doctor?
They break out into a run.
The entranceway is damaged. Information is processed in fractions of milliseconds. Explosion. Likely cause: Creeper. Data indicates they explode in response to proximity to other lifeforms. Common clinic inhabitants are Ginko, Yukio, and
"Faust-Doctor!" They shout as they reach the threshold.
Is he...?
no subject
He shouldn't have done that.
There's the faint sounds of confusion, a shout, and then the close-range explosion annihilates the front wall just as Yukio is getting to his feet, throwing knife summoned to hand.
"Shit!"
The force of the blast is staggering, he ends up on the floor, stunned for a second as his ears ring with the sound and the scent of gunpowder and dirt floods his mouth. But he's up again, moving towards the entryway, shifting mentally into crisis mode as he grabs his backpack from against the wall.
no subject
He's not distracted for long.
The blast shakes the walls around Ginko, knocks him down and back for just a moment before he stumbles to his feet and toward the clinic's entrance - or what's left of it, anyway - and his eye sweeps over the crater left in the ground, looking for Faust. Shit, shit, shit--
CWs are now in effect
A cursory glance alone will reveal that the entire left side of his torso has taken the brunt of the blast, with nearly all of the skin in that area seemingly disintegrated from the detonation, leaving behind the horrifically charred visage of burned flesh intermingled with pools of fresh blood and coal-like chunks of soil from whatever is left of the entryway. It's not immediately clear if there's an internal damage, but considering the state of things on the outside...the inside is probably just as mangled, if not moreso.
His left arm only fares marginally better, scorched to a somewhat lesser degree, though the blood loss is still just as profuse - and whilst the good doctor's limbs are no stranger to contorted angles, it's a safe assumption his body isn't supposed to contend with a blackened shard of his ulna jutting out from under the damaged flesh. Besides that, the damage becomes more and more prevalent the further up his arm you travel, culminating in a partially dislocated shoulder as badly seared as the rest of him...followed by the beginnings of second-degree burns on his neck, and...
The bloodied, but otherwise almost unharmed, bald head of an elderly gentleman.
The injuries taper off around about his left cheek - minor first-degree burns at best - but there's a small flow of fresh blood trickling from his mouth onto the floor below, and his mouth is drooped open. Occasionally, his lips move as if to speak, but no sound comes out beyond shuddered breaths and faint whimpers. His eyes are glassy and unfocused, twitching about as if desperately trying to find something, yet they seem to pass right over the destruction and the other people present like they're invisible...
In summary: The good doctor is still alive.
But it's clear as day he's not going to last much longer like this.

Their eye zooms in and they rapidly process acquired data as they rush to their friend’s side.
“Blood loss: Approximately 25.9% of total blood volume. Extensive degloving of left torso. Severe burns. Open fracture of left Ulna. Dislocation of left shoulder. Signs of internal damage.”
Their eye flicks over Faust, over the blood, the walls, the ground. It does not rest. This damage is severe, fatal without intervention. Their headflaps ripple, then flare, the lights on their face turning red. Ability to intervene is limited.
“Damage severe. Fatal without immediate application of advanced medical techniques, or magic.”
Their gaze turns to Yukio, Ginko. It is desperate, pleading, a child looking to authority figures for guidance.
“Assistance required!”

It's bad. It's the sort of thing that would have him calling for an ambulance with requests for transport to a burn center. But here, this is the closest thing to a trauma facility that they have. And he's going to be in charge of the scene.
"You," he says, and it's rude but he doesn't exactly know Legion's name. "Can you keep the area clear of any more of those things?"
There's too much blood loss, assuming that the assessment is accurate. They need to stop that first.
"Ginko-san." He says, quickly reaching under Faust's crumpled form, doing a blood sweep of the areas he can't see easily. The last thing they need is a hidden arterial bleed or punctured lung. "Inside the clinic, there is a box labeled monster food. Go and get it."
no subject
"Got it." He doesn't pause to look back at Faust before he darts back into what remains of the clinic, only sparing a sympathetic glance at Legion.
He's seen the box before, at least, even if he can't recall its contents being used before when he was around, so it doesn't take him long to track it down - pushing aside rubble and dust dropped on it during the explosion - and rush back to the scene outside to kneel down by Faust and open it up. At least he can guess what this is for; if he can handle getting Faust to swallow it, that's attention Yukio can put on more complex treatment.

Surprisingly, there's the faintest twitch of motion in Faust's nostrils as the scent reaches him, and his neck makes an almost unconscious effort to turn towards the source of it, albeit only by a centimetre or so. When his lips move again, there seems to be a twinge more effort involved, and he manages to faintly choke out:
"...mi...ss...mu...ff...et...?"
There is still no sense of recognition in his expression, but perhaps he looks just a little less oblivious than he was a few seconds ago. Even if he hasn't been reacting to the pair of claws giving him a firm once over - becoming wet with fresh blood upon brushing against the large cut on the back of Faust's head. Mercifully, a quick examination reveals it to only be a particularly nasty gash, with no sign of the injury going any deeper than the skin. The hit his head has taken is miles less intense than what the rest of him has taken, at any rate.

“Affirmative,” They say in response to Yukio's request. Providing medical assistance is outside their expertise; defending allies is not. As a response to the current dangers of the island, they have kept the Widow with them, and they unfold it now. “though we are low on ammunition.”
They move to the front and take a position that allows them to get a good view of the area surrounding the clinic. Though the Widow is larger, heavier, and more powerful than a Human could casually wield, they handle it as easily as if it were an ordinary gun.
Though their programs designated for the tasks of processing visual input, aiming, and operating weaponry are preoccupied with their assigned task, the entire rest of their being is drawn, inexorably, to what what is occurring behind them. Monster food. They are aware of its healing properties, though they were not aware that the clinic stocked it. The odds of Faust-Doctor’s survival have increased, but remain ...uncertain.
He is their ally.
“Suggestion: Data suggests that explosive lifeforms avoid Tigerlilies. Recommend stationing one outside clinic to prevent future casualties.” They raise their voice, so that the words will carry. Perhaps later, this can be done.
For now, stabilizing and treating Faust will require focus and effort: their allies are vulnerable. It is, for the moment, their duty to protect them.
no subject
"Put your knees on either side of his head." Yukio instructs Ginko, as he moves to the doctor's torso. "You need to keep him from moving his head at all, the method of injury indicates significant potential for spinal damage. Get some of that monster food into him, that should help him stabilize. I'll need your hands once you have them free."
But these injuries... he has to start somewhere. Pressure to the largest wounds with gauze, as he looks over the rest of the damage.
"The arm can wait until we've stopped the bleeding, as long as it doesn't try to heal." The torso can't. These kinds of burns, the internal injuries that come along with being caught that close to the explosion... Faust needs immediate treatment to a trauma center, a burn unit. He isn't going to get that. The best Yukio can do is have Ginko shove monster food into Faust's mouth as Yukio mutters his healing boost spell, focusing it on the torso.
cw, unsanitary... feeding
He grabs a randomly-selected pastry from the box, and bites a piece off while he tugs Faust's mouth open with a hand on his chin. That Faust reacts to the smell of food is, at least, reassuring, even if the lack of recognition is not - but he doesn't seem to be in any state to actually chew. So, after a couple moments of chewing, Ginko leans over to transfer the bite of pastry into Faust's mouth before repeating the process. It might not be the most elegant solution possible, but it's about all they've got.

Regardless, with the power of Muffet's magically-infused baked goods and Yukio's healing boost, the restorative effect is nearly immediate: Small flecks of burnt dirt start popping out of the various injuries and landing beside the good doctor's body, blood begins slowly flowing back into the most traumatic of his wounds, and the edges of his scorched torso start beginning to blister.
"...w...wuh...?"
It's a little unsettling, watching the streak of crimson rapidly trailing back up Faust's chin and leading back into his mouth as his lips make a more concentrated attempt at producing words, the glassy sheen fading from his eyes as they start moving of their own volition. It takes a second or so longer than with his injuries, but eventually recognition and focus start to appear in Faust's eyes.
And are then immediately cut off by his entire expression turning in on itself with a sharp wince. His only functional arm starts moving, hand attempting to grasp his torso in a purely instinct-driven attempt to diagnose his own wounds.
"...g...in...ko, w...what...?"
The good doctor can barely whisper above the agony in his voice. Is he asking about what has happened to him, or is he demanding to know why he's now awake for it?

Faust-
(But whatever they were going to say cuts off. A Creeper is approaching.
BOOM
The Widow is louder than any gun shooting bullets the size of a grain of sand should be. The Creeper is blown to pieces in an instant.
Faust-Doctor is being treated. Perhaps for now, they should focus entirely on their task.)
no subject
Ginko-san, don't let him move.
no subject
Don't try to move around, alright? Yukio's treating you.

Even with all the fresh vitality flowing through his veins, it's a battle for the good doctor to even so much as conjure up his awareness, let alone actually think. It's a monumental task alone just to realise that the piercing screeches of munitions being fired probably means he's in the middle of a battle...and with his closest friends out in the open like this, that would mean they could get hurt, and he can't-
"...in...si...de...not...safe...out...here...!"
The good news is that his torso's injuries have finished coughing up any remaining foreign bodies formerly embedded within them, the only blood left on his person is thickly stained into what's left of his attire, and nearly all of the burned areas have been sheathed in an ugly array of dull orange blisters. The bad news is the final few steps of these processes are becoming far slower, magically-amplified hyperactive metabolism only capable of doing so much for injuries that would otherwise kill a man in minutes.
This, in of itself, would not inherently constitute bad news, if not for the fact that all the commotion appears to have attracted several members of the local Creeper populace. It's unclear whether it's the initial explosion or the Widow's reports or even just the scent of a fresh victim that is to blame for the sudden influx of unwanted guests, but regardless, it's going to become rapidly apparent to Legion that they don't have the ammunition stocked for this.
Well, if they keep trading one round for one Creeper, that is.
"...gin...ko, yu...kio...go...now...!"
Faust's only functioning hand finds Ginko's wrist and buries its nails into the skin, the good doctor's brown eyes opening just enough to shoot him an icy glare that would make his normally bag-bound expressions of contempt look kind and gentle in comparison.
This is not a request. It will never be a request. Do not throw your lives away trying to save him, damn it...!
no subject
They chatter, loud and alarmed, as they do their best to line up shots. They destroy many Creepers, but it will not be sufficient.
Their allies are in danger.
"Alert! Insufficient ammunition! Direct engagement required!"
And with that, they fire their last shot and charge forward, summoning their combat drone to assist in distraction as they wield their gun like a club.
no subject
"Ginko-san. Get more of that food in him, and get out of here. Try and find somewhere safe. Keep his spine in alignment and try to keep those blisters intact."
Yukio has nothing on him but claws and fangs and his throwing knife. And all of those things require letting the creatures get too close for comfort.
OOF sorry for the wait on this
Yukio's order, though, is far more acceptable. Ginko knows perfectly well that he's not going to be much help with the creepers, but moving Faust is something he can do... even if it might be a little difficult to do so with any grace, given Faust's height. He'll figure something out.
"Got it. Eat this, Faust." He grabs another pastry from the box, this time tearing a piece off to put directly into Faust's mouth. He should be able to chew now, at least, even if he's reluctant to try and put too much into his mouth at once just yet - and he’ll have some time to eat that while Ginko, carrying the remainder of the pastry between his teeth, maneuvers to get his arms under Faust’s and around his chest. Picking Faust up entirely seems far too risky under the circumstances, and he doesn’t have anything to lay him on, so he’ll have to settle for dragging him - and be glad that the blistering seems to be largely confined to his front, so keeping him on his back shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
Once he’s got a good hold on Faust, he glances up at Yukio again, and over at Legion. “Be careful, alright? Let me know once you’re safe.”
no subject
As it turns out though, Faust is remarkably light in spite of his sheer height, and Ginko will encounter little resistance as he drags the semi-conscious Deputy Medical Director away from ground zero of this entire mess. Meanwhile, Legion's shift to melee combat has gotten the attention of nearly every Creeper currently present on the premises, ensuring the medivac of the area will go off without further complications.
The question now, is how long can Legion hold off a large group of highly volatile monsters alone?
no subject
It can only exist for a few seconds at a time, but Legion makes good use of those seconds.
BOOM
Several creepers go after the drone, and thus, several creepers are taken out when one finally decides to explode.
A few go after Legion instead, but so far, they're doing a pretty good job of attacking and then moving out of range.
They will not be able to keep this up forever, but they're going to ensure their allies are safe.
