[OPEN] days don't feel different from the nights
Who: Ginko and anyone
What: Landscape restoration, medical supply collection, and more!
When: about the first half of October
Where: around Enso and islets
Warnings: questionable coping mechanisms
A - Enso
The nice thing about being a troll is that Ginko can get a pretty considerable amount of work done at a time in restoring Enso’s landscape, even when slightly injured. In fact, in the weeks following Ahidalga’s defeat, that’s what he spends most of his time on.
Ginko brings down an axe provided by the Storyteller on a charred, cracked tree trunk, one that was already leaning dangerously over, then plants his hands on the wood, getting ready to push it the rest of the way over.
His ear twitches at the sound of movement nearby, and he glances up just long enough to confirm that it’s a person - whether someone more humanoid, or simply someone he can recognize as not local wildlife - before turning his attention back to the dead trunk. “--Hey. Careful of this one, it’s going down in a moment.”
B - Enso I2
He would hope that anyone else who got burned during Ahidalga’s attack would have healed by now. He almost has, and might have been further along if he had spent more time resting in the last few weeks - but that isn’t an option. He’s got to keep his mind on something.
In this instance, that “something” is harvesting more leaves for treating the burns that people may or may not still be suffering from. He’s managed to get himself up into one of the mangrove trees on this stretch of beach (which wasn’t a great experience with a burn still healing on his hip), and there he harvests leaves from the tree, carefully and methodically. He’d rather not end up hurting it.
Absorbed as he is in his work, he’s not paying much attention to his surroundings - or his tail, which is swishing back and forth below the branch he’s sitting on, potentially at… roughly face height for anyone passing under the tree. From the ground, it might look like there’s some kind of animal up there, honestly.
C - Wildcard
(( OOC: Though Ginko will be spending most of his time on replanting and collecting supplies, he will also occasionally be around to help chase off invasive animals, as well as periodically sleeping in the cottage he shares with Ed and Epsilon on Islet 5, so feel free to run into him anywhere around Enso or on the islet! If you want to plan something out, contact me on this journal, the game discord, or at

I'd tell you to be careful around those things, but you probably know that already... how've you been doing so far?

[Which is about all one can ask of them. Their method of communication might make this back-and-forth awkward, given that they're on the ground, but if Ginko's willing to make the effort, they suppose they are as well.]
surveying damage

Normally, Ginko might be more inclined to climb down and talk, make this a little easier on both of them. But right now, he's... kind of stuck, in a way. He's got a little more collecting to do before changing trees, and leaving his spot before he reaches a stopping point seems unacceptable, even in the middle of a conversation.
Definitely worth it to have to sit at an odd angle so he can more easily lean over and see what they're saying.
He nods, sad resignation tinging his voice for a moment.] I suppose it could be worse, but... it's kind of hard to look at, in some areas. No wonder the Storyteller wants us to help the regrowth along.

or cahypdo
[Two islands, now, where they've watched beautiful growth be rendered scorched and desolate, though in both occasions it was relatively natural forces that caused it. Now...it was Nastrandir. A island that, not so very long ago, they had believed they were invading for a purpose.]
much work to be done

Ginko nods, quiet for a moment as he packs more leaves into a bundle.] Going to have our hands full for a while. Speaking of which - if there's anything I might be able to do to help with those animals, feel free to... find me, send me a text message, whatever. I imagine you're probably a lot more effective than I would be at actually taking them down, but... I might be able to help with driving them where you need them to be, things like that.
[He doesn't know, of course, how useful that offer will be, and it's accompanied by a wry smile for that very reason. But maybe there's some way he could make their job easier, so... it feels best to offer.]

?
[That's a thought. The abode that they have been keeping well for the Knight is full of creatures, small ones that they have no idea how to take care of - mosslings and bees, most prominently. They have been learning to tend to flowers, but learning to take care of small creatures has been...harder. The learning curve is much steeper. Still, they haven't killed any yet.]

This, though, sounds like there might be a slightly different problem at play here than the need to remove invasive predators from Enso.] There something you need along those lines?
no subject
[They can read on it in the library, of course, but the Drifter is a kinetic learner above all else; they learn things best when they have a physical means of doing them, rather than reading on them theoretically. Verbal explanations are not ideal, but demonstrations? Those are best.]

[Bees.
Well, not what he expected. Ginko considers that as he packs the last of his current load of leaves into his bag.] I could take a look, at least. Is there a problem with the bees on the farm?
no subject
do not understand them
[The Knight set one of the beehouses outside of the home that the Drifter now lives in, because they didn't want to see the Knight's hard work go to waste. And so they've more or less taken over for the Knight's care and keeping of the garden and its associated beasts.]
[Including bees.]

[With his harvested supplies packed up, Ginko finally shoulders his pack and drops down to the ground. He only winces a little on the landing, setting a hand on his hip briefly before he straightens up.] So that's-- probably good news. There a lot of flowers around?
no subject
garden outside
[Which...they have tried their best to care for, but their ability to tend to it is somewhat limited. They don't exactly know much about gardening.]
no subject
[Which might be enough work in itself around here.]
no subject
?
[From...everything else around here, that is. The guests from Nastrandir, for one.]
have been defending it well
no subject
[Lots of things would like to get at honey or bee larvae! And that's without counting the animals that might destroy the hive just by accident.]
I don't doubt that. Those bees might be safer from predators with you than with anyone else here.
no subject
[The islets are generally quiet, but then, the Drifter doesn't know what exactly constitutes a predator other than the obvious.]
predators
birds?
no subject
Unfortunately, it might take some time to determine what here is and isn't going to be inclined to try it. Guess beekeepers that have been living in their home country for longer have something of an advantage there.
...If I were you, though, I'd want to keep an eye out for those fox-looking things. Wouldn't trust those near a beehive. [Or ever. Fuckin' slypers.]
no subject
[The Drifter has been certain to keep those creatures predisposed to thieving away from the house as often as possible. Not only are there treasured belongings there, but some of the Knight's old things still remain, in addition to the garden they spent so much time tending. It would not do to see those things stolen.]
will keep safe

[Perhaps because they've never actually utilized a library before. They've never had the opportunity.]
yes
thank you
no subject
No problem. Glad to have been able to help.
[The fact that he could should probably be encouraging, but Ginko can't be too surprised that he feels about the same now as he did before.]
And good luck with those bees.
no subject
[Because it seems polite, and not necessarily because the question of repaying debts is a consistent one that consistently comes up (less consistently now), the Drifter finds it prudent to ask:]
require assistance?

[The problems of others obviously outweigh their own. Obviously. The one thing they can do, the one thing they never want to stop doing, is help.]
no subject
All the same, they are offering. So he nods toward the mangroves with a small, grateful smile.] I'm harvesting leaves from these for treating burns - not too many from each tree, but if you want to work with me on it for a while, we could get more done.
[It's important to specify not to over-harvest from any given source. Besides the simple matter of keeping their resources healthy, he doesn't want to do anything that would upset Epsilon.]
