[OPEN] days don't feel different from the nights
Who: Ginko and anyone
What: Landscape restoration, medical supply collection, and more!
When: about the first half of October
Where: around Enso and islets
Warnings: questionable coping mechanisms
A - Enso
The nice thing about being a troll is that Ginko can get a pretty considerable amount of work done at a time in restoring Enso’s landscape, even when slightly injured. In fact, in the weeks following Ahidalga’s defeat, that’s what he spends most of his time on.
Ginko brings down an axe provided by the Storyteller on a charred, cracked tree trunk, one that was already leaning dangerously over, then plants his hands on the wood, getting ready to push it the rest of the way over.
His ear twitches at the sound of movement nearby, and he glances up just long enough to confirm that it’s a person - whether someone more humanoid, or simply someone he can recognize as not local wildlife - before turning his attention back to the dead trunk. “--Hey. Careful of this one, it’s going down in a moment.”
B - Enso I2
He would hope that anyone else who got burned during Ahidalga’s attack would have healed by now. He almost has, and might have been further along if he had spent more time resting in the last few weeks - but that isn’t an option. He’s got to keep his mind on something.
In this instance, that “something” is harvesting more leaves for treating the burns that people may or may not still be suffering from. He’s managed to get himself up into one of the mangrove trees on this stretch of beach (which wasn’t a great experience with a burn still healing on his hip), and there he harvests leaves from the tree, carefully and methodically. He’d rather not end up hurting it.
Absorbed as he is in his work, he’s not paying much attention to his surroundings - or his tail, which is swishing back and forth below the branch he’s sitting on, potentially at… roughly face height for anyone passing under the tree. From the ground, it might look like there’s some kind of animal up there, honestly.
C - Wildcard
(( OOC: Though Ginko will be spending most of his time on replanting and collecting supplies, he will also occasionally be around to help chase off invasive animals, as well as periodically sleeping in the cottage he shares with Ed and Epsilon on Islet 5, so feel free to run into him anywhere around Enso or on the islet! If you want to plan something out, contact me on this journal, the game discord, or at

Flimsy as he is, he also doesn't weigh a thing. He manages, scrambling up like some sort of demented undead spider monkey. Luckily, Ginko's known him a while now.
"So! What are we doing up in a tree?"
no subject
With that possibility in mind, Hector's arrival is something of a relief, and gets a flicker of a smile as Ginko holds up a bundle of leaves. "Just getting some supplies. These are pretty good for burns; figured we could use more on-hand right now. You want to help?"
no subject
There are always baskets. So, so many baskets. Baskets up to your eyeballs. He just hadn't thought to bring one, not when he was only out for a short walk.
"Are there any other medicinal plants around I don't know about?"
no subject
Which only narrows it down to most of the people trapped on this island.
"That depends on how many you know, but... probably. Most likely some around that I don't know about, either."

He's... really not any good at sketching plants, but he does his best, and writes down a detailed description of the plant and the location.
And then, as he's poking around under the mangrove trees looking at the smaller plants, when he sees that tail.
He looks up into the tree and... it's not Rin, which explains why he didn't smell fire.
"Ginko-san." He calls up, just to make sure that the man knows he's here and doesn't wind up being startled by his presence later.
no subject
Even being addressed, though, only gets a flicker of his tail before he twists around to look below the tree. "--Oh. Hey; what're you doing out here?"

"I-- might be able to help out, if you're interested."

[Asgore looks a little sadly up at the blackened tree. He knows the forests of Enso well enough to be sure that it was perfectly healthy and thriving, before the dragon came. Such a shame.
But, of course, it is already dead. It is better for someone to take it down. He steps carefully out of the way.]
Of course.
no subject
It really is too bad. Going to take years for the forest to recover this growth.

Cahypdo was used to such things. Like those trees whose seeds can only be opened by flame. But this is only destruction.
[He sighs, looking down at the fallen tree. Of course he's only one person, and no single person could have protected Enso...but he still can't help feeling responsible.]
At least it shall make for good soil.
no subject
[Speaking of which. Ginko moves around the cracked stump left on the ground, digging in his bag for a few moments for some of the seeds the Storyteller provided.] You want to get some of these planted? I wouldn't turn away help, if you want to.

So he retaliates by grabbing the fluffy tip of his tail and giving a brief, firm tug.
"What the hell are you doing up there?"
no subject
He twists around to give Ed a look, and does his best to pull his tail away. "What does it look like? We've got to make sure we have burn treatments on-hand right now."
no subject
"Yeah, and you're one of the patients! You're gonna rub your hip even more fucking raw climbing up everything!"
no subject
"It's covered, Ed." Literally and figuratively. "I know how to treat my own injuries, and climbing a couple trees isn't going to kill me."

[Better safe than dead. They start to creep toward the intruder, their blade aglow.]

...And then to immediately pull his tail up into the tree, jolting back and away. Shit, there goes his balance up here. He'll just hold onto a higher branch with his free hand to remedy that.] --Oh! Hey, uh... nice to see you.
no subject
[Not a foe, then. Just someone up a tree, and doing a very good imitation of one. They recognize him, though he's a bit further up than he is usually. They weren't aware that he was...agile enough for tree-climbing, but there are a lot of things they simply never ask about.]
[Their blade dissipates almost at once.]

...well, let's just say the long-running fiasco between Faust and the storage room has taught him several important lessons in keeping on top of item stocks. Which is why a certain deputy medical director now finds himself dangling upside-down from a tree branch by his calves, humming contentedly to himself as he gently plucks the tree's precious bounty for the benefit of Ensō's denizens.
This is actually rather pleasant, all things considered.
"This was a very good idea."
From this position, more of Faust's face is visible than usual, to the point that from the right angle, one can actually see the good doctor's mouth moving as he speaks. Fortunately for his friend, though, there will be no light show this time around.
Well, unless the bag slips off, something which it has been doing a fantastically bad job at thus far, in defiance of all known laws of physics.
no subject
He glances up from his own chosen branch, packing a bundle of freshly-picked leaves into his bag. "I'm glad you agree. We might want to change to another tree in a bit, make sure not to take too many from this one - but there are a good number around here, so it's not much of a problem."
no subject
Further defying scientific laws, Faust near-instantaneously swings his body back up into a seated position without so much as a peep of exertion, as if flipping his body an entire hundred and eighty degrees using only his thighs is a completely standard and simple thing to do. He places one hand to his bag as he calls out to the tiny familiar, scooting around on the branch and scanning the area when Mini does not make an immediate appearance.
"...good grief, he was next to me mere seconds ago! Where on Earth has h-?"
A nearby tree gives a gentle rustle, before the sound of a small creature and a large pile of leaves hitting the ground echoes around the treeline. The new bundle of bountiful foliage fumbles around for a moment before the familiar tiny bag of Mini-Faust emerges, heaving their shoulders as if gasping for breath.
...they shoot Faust a thumbs-up. Faust, in turn, shoots them a disapproving glare.
"...they've gotten frighteningly effective at masking their presence. Or in this particular circumstance, their lack thereof. I do hope my abilities aren't deteriorating, otherwise I may no longer be able to influence Mini to behave."
Except that would imply they have ever been capable of behaving. Faust thinks better of saying this out loud.

How strange...
And with Ginko, his considerable size still puzzled her. He could level that great old tree with ease but he claimed he could not fight. She squirreled that thought away for another day.
Today she was going to learn what he meant to do with that tree.
"What will you do next, Rockpelt?"
no subject
Or maybe she'll just keep assigning her own names. He'll... find out, he guesses.
"Well-- once this is down, so it won't fall on anyone..." He pauses to lean his weight on the tree again, gritting his teeth until the weakened wood gives way and the trunk crashes to the ground. He lets out a breath and steps back to finish addressing her. "I'll be putting down some of the seeds from the Storyteller around here. Might break down the trunk some, too, to speed things up."

These Twolegs think of everything! Yellowfang imagined a camp lined with prickly holly and thistles. A patch of useful yarrow and poppy right where she could find it. Her fur bristles, electric with the new idea.
"Very clever!" She purrs, too impressed to be bitter.
