stick around and see how it ends [ OPEN MINGLE ]

Who: Anyone!
What: Catch-all Denny mingle for the month of July
When: Throughout all of July, generally
Where: Denny
Warnings: Label your stuff if it comes up but otherwise nothing comes to mind

[Feel free to use this as a catch-all for whatever your character might conceivably be doing here. Are they loitering outside? Delivering supplies/food, or looking to share information about the city under the water? Helping improve the place because god knows it certainly needs it? Cooking? Socializing? Eating? Just wanting to booze it up? I've heard chatter of live music, so whatever you wanna do here, go for it! There are also some newer additions of rudimentary game boards and decks of cards to pass the time.]

[There are nominal rules but if you don't get caught you don't have to deal with them, so you do you.]

It's far from difficult.

[he says like i know shit-all about chess.]

Merely a game of strategy in which you simply need remember how every piece is meant to move across the board.

Mm. The trouble with "strategy" is that it can be anything from anticipating your opponent's moves to pointing behind them, saying "oh no, whatever could that be", and palming one of their pieces in the confusion. Something of a broad topic.

[Listen. Cheating is a valid strategy provided you don't get caught.]
scourgingstars: (this was my home)

Oh, I'm afraid the latter's not worked on me since I was fifteen. My brother rather favored trying to get away with that.
prettypurpleparlor: Wily, flattering words (In a little corner sly)

[A quiet flicker of memory surfaces, enough to remind her that Ardyn willingly mentioning his brother is... noteworthy, at least. But she doesn't show any of that thought on her face.]

Perhaps he should have tried card games, instead. A bit of discreet cheating is far more tolerated in those, provided one has the wit to be artful.

[She sits down, thoughtfully examining the board.]

The object of the game, I know, is the king...

Correct. It's a game of strategy, to capture and pass the other side's defenses and corner their king first. A straightforward concept, but requiring intellect and caution.
prettypurpleparlor: Thinking only (And I've a many curious things)

That seems reasonable enough. Although- [She frowns thoughtfully.] -I was never entirely certain why capturing only the king could end the game, if the queen was still in play. It's certainly a terrible setback to lose either monarch, but why is the battle over when one royal sovereign is still safe and well?

[Why are gender roles, humans are weird.]
