august 5-9.
[ In some ways, it feels familiar. She's not really thrilled about that; the fear of succumbing to something she can't control is terrifying. Something pricks at the back of her mind, flashes of an old memory clawing to the surface--august 10-16.
beneath the ground, surrounded by darkness and decay and the slow sound of something heavy growing closer
--she closes her eyes and shakes her head. Focuses on other things. She doesn't dare go back to Enso; she doesn't know if she'd infect others who, luckily, haven't been. Her food's running a bit low, but she's still got quite a bit. So. If she sees someone around, she'll come over with a smile. She's a little dizzy from walking so much, but she manages to not fall over. ]
Are you hungry?
[ ... of course, aside from trying to take care of people, she's... not doing much of that for herself. Often, she has to take a break to curl up somewhere quiet. Mira's started coughing up flower petals, and that? Seeing the blood-soaked violet petals?
It's terrifying. So much that she's not particularly aware of much else. ]
[ It's getting much worse.
The flowers grow along her skin, bursting forth around her wrists and throat. She's in a lot of pain, and she doesn't really move from her spot near the mana pool on Umui. She can't move, exactly. Not without a lot of hurting. Still, she puts on a brave face, sits up (visibly wincing, naturally) if she notices someone coming along. ]
How are you doing?
[ It's a foolish question, but. It's fine. ]

He can't exactly tell her off. He can't force her to open up, and he's resigned himself to the very same fate she has, so what right does he have to worry? To want her to open up?
There's nothing he can do about it, but he...wishes there was. It feels wrong, not being the only one willing to die because opening up is impossible.]
Yeah. [Storyteller said they can bring us back from the dead.
I didn't think about me.] It'll be okay. Once this is all over, we'll...be okay.

Breathe in, out. Mira swallows around the blooms in her throat. ]
It'll be okay-- [ she coughs, and she feels the petals on her lips, like her body is reminding her of how full of shit she really is, ] --but I'm still scared.
no subject
Hey, hey.
[He coughs, before pushing that down, swallowing down more blood and petals, the hydrangea making his stomach twist. His thumb rubs an idle pattern on her shoulder, and his brow furrows.]
It's okay to be scared. [They're dying, after all. Keeping too many secrets. It would be so, so easy to fix it but it's -
There are things in this world more important than his life. If keeping secrets means someone else won't have to carry a burden and can get their own bloom to wither and fall away so they can live, then it's worth it.] It's okay.

Mira wants so badly to reach up, to touch his hand, but her arms refuse to work. And she hates herself for it. Nari would tell her not to, that it's okay. Because she's never had to deal with this sort of thing, with looking death in the face.
And when she coughs, wet and wrecked, it's such a stark reminder of it. ]
I've never-- [ Another cough, and she presses her forehead against her knees. ] I'm just... a girl from Washington, I've never had to... watch people I care about suffer like this.
no subject
But there's a difference between a fight you can win and something you cannot stop.]
But you're not...you're not just a girl. You're Mira. [There's a lopsided grin on his face, even though it hurts. It hurts so much and he's so tired, wants to just curl up and sleep until it's all over.] Don't get yourself down, not now.
Because it's gonna be okay, remember?
no subject
He's comforting her. The least she can do is try the same for him. ]
... You're right. We'll-- be okay, Lance. [ She feels the fingers on her right hand twitch, and she realizes it's because she was honest.
So she rests a hand on his shoulder, and squeezes lightly. ]
And then... you can meet my cat.
no subject
She's trying so hard, after all. That means the world.]
You have a cat? [He laughs, a soft, wondering thing. A cat. He bets the cat's cute.] I look forward to meeting them.
[He bumps his shoulder against Mira, and...It's nice having something to look forward to. They'll come back and they'll be okay and Lance can meet her cat and they can put all of this behind them.]

[ She smiles and bumps her shoulder against his. It's... normal. Shockingly normal. If not for the petals itching in her throat, threatening to burst from beneath her skin, she could believe this to be just another day with a friend.
She coughs, feels the petals dislodge themselves. ]
She'll like you a lot, I think... She's a tuxedo cat. She has these cute little white socks, too...
no subject
[A tuxedo cat with white socks...
He can imagine her, how cute and sweet she must be, like a piece of home on these islands, something familiar and safe. He's sure she'll be even cuter in person. For real. That's a thought he clings to for now, because it's better than just thinking about the flowers in his skin, in his throat, strangling the life out of him and Mira and so many other people.]
Was she a gift from the Storyteller? Like Gladio's chocobo?
no subject
I'm not sure. When I returned-- [ Not "came here." Returned, because so many people know her, even if she has no recollection of it. The Storyteller, when she'd spoken to them, had told her it was the nature of her story... ] --she was in my cottage.
no subject
Oh...I mean, that's how Kaltenecker showed up. [He clears his throat, coughs, turns his head to spit out the petals that have filled his mouth.] Just here when I got back. Guess that's just how things work here.
no subject
She knew me. She... seemed like she'd been waiting for me. But I've never had a cat like her before.
no subject
[That's a little strange, definitely peculiar.]
I'm sure she's just happy to have you around, even if she knew you before or not.
cw for The Bloods
[ She turns her head t cough, roughly and wetly, and the force if it makes her double over. The coughing lasts more than a few moments, this time, and by the time she's finished, her lips are red with blood. ]
I... I'm sorry.
no subject
[The blood is concerning, but even more so is...Mira.]
You don't need to be sorry for this. It's- It's okay.
no subject
... Y-you're right. It'll be okay.
[ She reaches over to squeeze his hand. It hurts, but she's so tired and achey and she's always been more of a physical person than most people she knows. ]
We'll get through this, right?
