August Intro: All Will Fade and Petrify

What: New souls arrive to the archipelago of LifeAftr

New Arrivals: Bury Me Alive
When you wake, it's initially to darkness: musty, stuffy, and dense. Your eyes may take some time to adjust, but when they do, something will rapidly become apparent - namely, the fact that you're underground.

Unfortunately for you, it's not merely earth that separates you from the surface. It's also flowers in rich abundance - an untold, innumerable weight of dead and decaying plant matter, twined around the ancient bones strewn underground along with your sweet self, pressing down from above, peeking through the cracks in the metallic folds of whatever material once comprised these buildings' ceilings, walls, and floors.
Whether it's a mass tomb or something more sinister, you'd better figure a way out, and quickly. If you didn't show up with a shovel or some means of teleporting yourself out, you may very well need to resign yourself to digging your way out or making a lot of noise to attract someone who can, before this becomes a more dedicated grave.
Everyone Else: All Will Change and Calcify
As for the rest of you, well...if you're anywhere near the regions of G5, you might hear the sounds of a not-insignificant number of people finding themselves displaced underground, and requiring your imminent assistance in getting out. Perhaps you'll recognize the place. It is, after all, very well marked. They'll probably be properly grateful if you mind offering the help, and hey - it's a welcome break from the eerie, ever-present silence that clouds almost the entirety of Umui. As long as you don't mind digging around that old cenotaph half-buried in the flowers and scraping through sheets of metal, a lot of flowers, and...oh, yes. The first bones you'd be finding since arriving here.

Including their diagnostic systems.
The warning, repeated shrills will undoubtedly be heard by anyone who passes:
ALERT: STAGE ONE DETECTED
ALERT: STAGE ONE DETECTED
ALERT: STAGE ONE DETECTED
ALERT: STAGE ONE DETECTED
And that's probably fine. Right?
All new arrivals will awake with knapsacks, their names stitched to the front. The contents of said knapsacks can all be found in your acceptance notices!
As a final note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme, bear in mind that those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.
Feeling a tad adrift? Make sure to check the Locations Page, which has details regarding the starting areas and a handy map for those who feel better with a bird's eye view!

[Perhaps more irritatingly, ARUM-25's vocal processors have been restored to full function.]
[Anyone who draws near will hear it: the same vocal alarm, and the guttering light in their chest cavity pulsing in a flare of red:]
ALERT: STAGE ONE DETECTED.

[ Well, it's a good thing she's spent some time around this place ever since discovering it with Lance, Connor, Ignis, and Ardyn!! Thankfully, she's got a few glass daggers on her courtesy of Nari, so she's not digging with her hands... but she's worried about breaking the blades, so it's slow going.
And then she gives a loud yell when she discovers bones. ]
G5: YOU'VE GOTTA FIND SOMETHIN' NEVER FOUND BEFORE
[ After a quick trip back to Enso, Mira returns with... food. It's primarily vegetables, with some fruits and herbs that might be of medicinal use. Those who's been dug up from their prison might find Mira fussing over them. ]
Are you hungry at all? I have plenty of food, more than enough to go around.
G5
Hey! What- [Then he sees them. His face drains of all color. He'd asked where the bones were. When his father died they'd buried him in a graveyard. ...why hadn't he thought people here would do that?
He swallows sliding his Marmora blade back into its sheathe and forces all his shock down.]
Let's move them. We need to see what's here. [His voice is forced but he feels this needs done.]

[ hifumi's never woken up underground before. the only place she ever really wakes up in is her own bed, and it takes her a while after waking up to realize that she's lying on soil and earth. she blinks her eyes open, taking a moment to process what's going on, then panics.
it's stuffy, and the air is thick and riddled with dirt. she can't see anything, and her first instinct is to call for help while letting her feet take her in any direction, holding her hands out to try and feel for anything that might be blocking her way. ]
Kurusu-san? [ nothing. ] Can anyone hear me? Please, I need help!
b. post-rescue
[ somehow, hifumi's made it out alive before being collapsed on. she's covered in dirt, some of her clothes are torn up, but hey, at least her knapsack's in tact, right? she seems visibly shaken, though, and she looks around at her surroundings, completely and utterly confused.
but she doesn't like feeling this way. immediately, she goes up to the nearest person and asks with a voice rather calm and leveled considering how shaken up she is: ]
Excuse me? Could you please tell me where we are and what's going on?

Nari Nishitani | OTA
[After being just busy being herself for a month, Nari is curious about this area. It's a nice area even with the flowers and the weird monument she's decided to never touch. She's crouched down and sketching some of the flowers into a notebook, occasionally poking one with a stick to see if they do anything. All in a days work when it comes to research.
Yes, the sounds of people trying to get out are being ignored because who knows what that could be. She'll have to be convince that digging might be better than flower drawing.]
G5: Or calcify
[Okay. Curiosity wins out and Nari is creeping closer to the cenotaph. It might look comical to those who don't know how excessively cautious she can be, but this place was strange, and she wasn't really looking for a fight. In case this thing turned out to be some kind of hidden rock monster. One could never know. She just want to check out what the material is...]

Hunk | OTA
Oh boy, this isn't good.
[ Understatement of the year, Hunk! His bayard is out and transformed into it's large gun form, the heavy weight settling his nerves, somewhat. He can't see very well, and his helmet is missing, but- ]
Are those bones? I think those are bones, is anyone else in here?
[ Hunk shuffles carefully through the room he's in to the door, looking around the new room he's entering, large yellow gun clutched like some kind of a teddy bear. ]
2 - leads to immediate action
Everyone back up, I'm gonna blow us a way out!
[ Hunk stands under a doorway to a separate building from the one he's chosen to shoot out, the business end of his bayard pointed towards what looks like a likely wall, pointing up at a slight slant.
The first shot blows a nicely sized dent in the wall, as does the second, and Hunk pauses, waiting to see if the ceiling is going to collapse on top of him. In the muffled silence of creaking wood, the pinging sound of metal cooling, and the shifting sound of dirt settling, Hunk can't help but mutter ]
This is such a bad idea...
2
With just his luxite blade the going will be slow. Keith drops his pack down on the grass behind him and opens it. He reaches inside and pulls out the Black Bayard Shiro had refused to accept back.]
Damn it, Shiro.
[He whips about as the bayard transforms into a long black blade and thrusts down, yelling out.]
HEY I'm coming for you! Follow my voice and dig from your end too!

Agent Carolina | RvB | ota
[She... is clearly suffering some sort of trauma. Head, she would guess, although Carolina has no recollection of anything happening to her, which might be worse. Huge animals are more Caboose's thing, and if he'd gotten another pet... The dinosaurs had been bad enough, without adding a child sized rabbit in to the mix.
It's a strange dream, if that's what it is, and she's not entirely certain still what to make about it. She's in her armor, that much is clear, when her eyes open, blinking, yet whatever this Storyteller had been, it's gone... Or at least she assumes so. If those idiots had slipped something in to her drink and dropped her off somewhere thinking-
Yet where is she? Already that soldier instinct kicks in as she rises to a crouch, assessing the area around her, before turning internal. There's a stillness to her for several moments, before she rises. Whatever conclusion she has come to, it's hard to guess when she starts to look around.
Underground. Where? It's unfamiliar, that much is clear, and she gingerly moves forward, aqua armor out of place. Yet when she does spot someone - or something- there is that rough voice.]
Hey! You.
[... she's not exactly the more approachable person on a good day, and they just might have answers.]
[b]
[It is a little while later that she is inspecting the structures, seeking to find a spot that will do. No point in having everything come tumbling down. Her guess is an accident of some sort, whether natural or not, although she still doesn't quite buy the story that had been told her her, her's starting anew, but at the moment, she's got other concerns to worry about. Like the old bones that seem to pre-date the buildings. Coincidence? She's not leaving that to chance, even if nothing seems too fresh.
But her armor is good for one thing, which is why she does move towards an area that seems to be more stable than the others, and yes, she's going to start gripping and tearing back pieces as she can. There may be a piece or two that falls a little too close for your comfort, which is why she does pause.]
I suggest you watch out.
[Let's just hope this works...]
[c]
[The surface doesn't exactly give any further answers. It seems that she's not alone though, both below and above the surface. Carolina's pausing, taking a small breather. Even in retirement, she hasn't exactly put her feet up and watched tv all day, but age does start to catch up with you, especially after all the things that she's been through.
She's still fully armored, likely still a strange sight, and it's hard to tell if she is human, cyborg, or maybe a robot. It's clear that she's packing anyway, although she's not exactly making any threatening motions. Rather, she's scouting, scanning, head turning side to side, although she's also a big suit of armor that may or may not be in your way, because what the heck, to put it politely, has happened?]

Chara | OTA (but esp to the newbies)
For those stuck below the ground, fear not. Help will be coming soon- those with shovels and strong arms, the kind of numbers that will make quick work of opening at least one hole to the mass grave below to save those who are (currently, at least) living.
This is not that help.
"Knock knock." Comes a muffled voice from above. It sounds young. Very young. It also does not sound the slightest bit bothered by the plight of those trapped below the surface of the flowers that said child is currently lounging on, calmly pulling out a book. Help is coming, sure, but you know what's better than help?
A knock knock joke, or two. Or twenty.
Or more.

Uh... hello?
[Waking up in dark was absolutely not her favorite thing. The fact that she couldn't feel Green, and had no idea where any of her friends were did not make this any easier.
But hey! She apparently had a backpack, and it wasn't entirely bad after her eyes had had a chance to adjust. Sort of.]
Does anyone know how we're supposed to get out of here?
[Fortunately, she does have her bayard, which she's brandishing like the weapon it is. And also a backpack she hadn't bothered looking in just yet. For now, though, she's being cautious, moving slowly in an attempt to figure out a way out of here.
As long as she had something else to focus on, it was easy to stay calm.
Or calm enough, at least.]

[This is now how Pyrrha wanted the silence on the island to be broken.
She physically cannot sit idly by after she hears the commotion going on, and the screaming coming from under the ground doesn't help the mood. She tries her best to follow it to a specific spot, but no such luck. So, looking down at a patch of ground, and then to her metal broom...]
It's a shame he wasn't a gardener.
[She sets it down nearby and opts for using her hands. Not the best for her fingernails, but she at least knows how to dig like this.
Any loud gasping or falling back will alert others to when she hits bones.]
[B]: I will pick you up and we will fix it all
[She should be going around checking on everyone, seeing how the new arrivals are doing now that they've escaped a possibly terrible fate.
Instead, she's sitting in a random patch of flowers, looking as though she's trying to fully process the whole event. Dirt cakes on her hands, and her broom rests across her lap. There's a lot to unpack right now, so trying to meditate on it is a good idea, right?]

[Ray comes to rather patiently for someone who doesn't know where they are or what's going on. She assumes her eyes will adjust in time and then she'll be somewhere else in the school.
At least she's right about one thing.]
Where am I..? And what's--?
[Her murmuring turns to a gasp--that may be audible to anyone aboveground--as her hand hits what is definitely a bone.

After that initial shock, she's going to hold the bone closer to her face and squint to see if it has any clues etched into it.]

Ardyn Izunia | umui | ota
[Something was wrong.]
[Although with Ardyn specifically, many things were 'wrong' in a physical sense--but this was different. It felt familiar in a sense he couldn't immediately place as reminiscent of the crystal caverns; a creeping sense of something creeping and taking root in the human-shaped form he called a body. There was a strange sensation in the back of his throat, something he couldn't say he was familiar with. Every so often he'd cough into his hand, usually with a brief cloud of black miasma and scattered purple petals.]
[...That wasn't normal. Not even for him.]
[b; 8/10; grasping onto every breath as i await the deadly night]
[Ah, this really was annoying. He could barely even move, purple blossoms having broken out beneath the layers of clothes he wore to guard against the sunlight.]
[Sitting with his back to a tree somewhere around G5, Ardyn made a sound that was somewhere between a laugh and a cough--pulling his hat down slightly to cover the few flowers that were visible in red-violet hair. It didn't quite hurt as much as he imagined it would for the more human of their number, but the fact remained that this corporeal body just didn't respond correctly now. Just as it hadn't back in the crystal caves, when he'd been so careless and stupid.]
[Oh, well. What was one more death atop countless more? Maybe this one would even stick.]
B.
Ardyn?
[Muffet's voice is concerned, gentle as she approaches, her eyes widening slightly as she catches sight of the blooming flowers twined around him. She'd been worried, when she heard someone cough, but she'd still hoped- well. There's no time for that now, there's work to be done here.]
I take it there's no point to asking if you're all right, then.

[Asgore hasn’t made a great habit of coming to Umui; while he was initially excited to see the flowers, once their connection to the deaths of the previous inhabitants had become clear...well, it’s one thing with his garden at home. No need to recreate that here.
He comes quickly once he learns about the trapped people, though. His big paws are accustomed to some digging, and his claws are blunt but strong. Anyone coming from below can probably hear his deep voice rumbling up above:]
Easy, now. Do not speak. It is going to be all right - just breathe steadily.
[.....later in the day, when the easier-to-shift patches of soil are all dug up, one might see him occasionally summoning a bright red trident. The end without the tines can make a helpful lever for shifting the metal. But he seems uncomfortable with it, and it always vanishes when no longer of immediate use.]
B: and to dirt you will return
[Those unearthed will need further help, of course. Asgore’s brought his rather large bottle along, the one that once flowed and now just holds regular water, and he’ll offer it to anyone just out of the dirt.]
Excuse me. Would you like a drink?
[Alternately, if someone is visibly injured:]
Would you like some healing magic? It works well on most species I have encountered.
B
No, I'm fine. I wasn't one of them down there.
[He gestures towards where they were digging, though it's obvious what he's talking about. Fine is a lie. Fine is always a lie, when one's broken bones are duct taped together.]

(Though initially preoccupied with Arum-25's panic, it does not distract them from the existence of those in need of aid.
They are not designed for efficient digging, but they are patient, and there are no shortage of sticks or rocks to utilize as tools in this task.
The metal is easier: they have more than enough strength to cut through it with their omniblade.
They don't actually try to say anything to the person buried beneath them, but it's possible one might hear some distinctly mechanical chatter.)
B)
(Alternately, you're aboveground. In which case, perhaps you'll lend them a hand?)
