July Adventure: Where the Weeds are Now Growing Free

NEW ISLAND: UMUI
Who: Everyone!
What: Umui appears, and a new adventure begins
When: July 10th and onward
Where: Umui
Warnings: Tag as you go!

'Cause the Dirt is Up to My Eyes
As of July 10th, the mana pools on Ensō and its islets will now allow for travel to the new island of Umui.

Travelers will arrive on a mana pool situated on the C1 square. The thick crops of flowers spring freely across the lush, grassy landscape, clustered in dense knots. The variety behind these growths seems profoundly limited: it is as though each flower has only sprouted around others of its kind, mingling solely at the edges. A large building looms in the corner of the region, a twisting, unfurling mass of piping and a half-crumbled metallic shine.

Whatever lays inside, or beyond the island's limits, is for you to discover for yourself.

Welcome to the new island of Umui! As the island is now accessible, feel free to begin preparations and explorations in this log, or create new ones of your own! For further information in regards to the island, or plotting, the following links may prove handy:

[Emoting does indeed seem to not possible, however that did not particularly mean total incapability. The Knight was a prime example of this, a face that could not change but was expressive nonetheless.]

I am Grimm. [Grimm leaves his title out this time - it would likely not matter.] Do you possess a name as well?

[A guardian unit, which brings to mind the question of why this island needed a guardian unit. The definition could certainly differ depending on the context but the information that Grimm and the others have gathered thus far do not paint a pretty picture.]

Well met, Arum twenty-five. There are a few questions that I would like the answers to, if you are willing.

[Or if they are still capable of answering them.]
aftrnpc: (arum.)

[Another pick-buzz of hissing circuits, as they process that query with the faint mechanical hum of internal systems straining to accommodate a request they've surely not had to accommodate in...in...]

[Eventually, the reply comes:]

[Grimm is a patient being and the machine is old. Rushing things would likely result in missing important information. He considers his questions silently for a moment before speaking.]

I would like to inquire about an item that myself and my friend found in the sand. [Grimm holds up the item in question.] This type of technology is beyond me, as one who has been to dead and dying kingdoms does not often benefit from what is remaining. I noticed a large amount is missing. Is it possible to restore what is gone?

[Grimm's eyes narrow in thought as he regards the data pad in his hands. It is curious that something so futuristic was "outdated". However he is also willing to admit his inability to tell the difference was likely due to the Troupe Master's unfamiliarity with this level of technology.

But he does notice the automation did not answer his question of if it was possible to restore the missing content. So Grimm will repeat himself.]

Thank you. This device appears to be corrupted so I wish to know if the missing text could be restored so it could be read by those who wish to see it.

Unk-unknown. Repair sysysysysysysSystems sss s s -

[A shriek of sound rattles out from the automaton's chassis, not unlike that of a fax machine, followed by the slightly more helpful words:]

SYSTEM: NONESSENTIAL REPAIR [OFFLINE]
fireindreams: (♪ I'm a shadow apart)

[personal profile] fireindreams 2018-07-17 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Ah, that makes sense. Given ARUM-25's state of disrepair, it stands to reason that certain functions would simply not work. Grimm wonders for a moment if there is someone capable of repairing the automaton on the island.]

I see. Perhaps it will be possible to fix you once the correct person is found. May I inquire to what information you can accesses? You do not have to stress yourself to find this information.

[He does not know when the final breaking point was for the machine. If someone wished to repair it then he would make sure not to break it.]
aftrnpc: (arum.)

[personal profile] aftrnpc 2018-07-17 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
[A great deal of their systems are currently offline. They need not even perform a basic diagnostic to be assured of that thus far.]

Are you capable of accessing these observational and medical reports?

[And if not, they certainly need to repair this machine.]
aftrnpc: (arum.)

[personal profile] aftrnpc 2018-07-17 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Another click-whirr as they process that query.]

SYSTEM: ARCHIVE [OFFLINE]

[That would be a "no" at present, then.]
fireindreams: (♪ Our idolized sun has burned out)

[personal profile] fireindreams 2018-07-17 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Indeed. Perhaps Grimm is going about this incorrectly.]

Thank you for trying. This island appears to have been abandoned for quite some time. Were you present for during that time?
aftrnpc: (arum.)

[personal profile] aftrnpc 2018-07-17 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
This desig-designation's initial activation occurrr-r-r-r-red in A.E 705.

[They do not define A.E; it seems they assume this is a standard unit of measuring time for most everyone.]
fireindreams: (♪ His throne left to ash)

[personal profile] fireindreams 2018-07-20 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[It is not a time nor date that Grimm is familiar with, but neither did not hold much value to one who is far to old for it to matter. However in this case it does.]

A.E is not a date I am familiar with, a time I do not know. Will you define what that means so I can understand?
aftrnpc: (arum.)

[personal profile] aftrnpc 2018-07-20 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
dddddefine: A.E

Common colloquialismismismism. Shorthanddd-d-d for After Evacuation.
fireindreams: (♪ The mantle of "chosen" passed on)

[personal profile] fireindreams 2018-07-20 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[So if one was to lengthen it, the full meaning would be After Evacuation 705. Although the full term is questionable.]

Had an evacuation taken place prior, as "after" suggests, or is there some other meaning eluding me?

I am sorry.
I am sorry.
fireindreams: (♪ Now fed as kindling)

[personal profile] fireindreams 2018-07-20 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[It appears so, however it is clear they at least tried prior to hitting the error. Grimm approaches the machine and lays a gentle hand on its shoulder. It may mean nothing, but his hand is unusually warm.

There is a very good chance ARUM-25 felt nothing, but Grimm knew it would make him no better then Wyrm if he dismissed the possibility outright.]

You do not have to be sorry, my friend. I have one more question if you are willing to answer me.
aftrnpc: (arum.)

[personal profile] aftrnpc 2018-07-20 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[A machine is not comprised of nerves and living flesh, it is true. They are code and refined ore and finely worked metals, bound together into something whose purpose has become...obsolete. Formed by someone else's hands, and now facing the reality that the greenery working its way up them will inevitably choke them out entirely.]

[A soft spray of sparks by their neck as they attempt to turn their head to acknowledge the movement. It fails, but it is nonetheless an appreciation of the gesture.]

Will attempt t-t-t-to answer answer answer.
fireindreams: (♪ I'll quench the cinders' desire)

[personal profile] fireindreams 2018-07-21 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Perhaps that is the sad thing in the end. Grimm continued through the Ritual, as his predecessor birthed him, he would do the same for his own child. An endless cycle but he was alive through it. Yet for this machine all it took was for someone out of their control to stop and they'd simply stop.

Maybe they could change that fate. Searches here have been turning up metals. Perhaps there was someone on the island with the knowledge to repair them.]

The data pad I showed you has a curious sentence, one that appeared to trouble those who have been on the island of Enso much longer then I. "We live and die free of the draperies of our fiction." Were those that lived on this island from or shared relations with an island known as Ai'tuoh?
aftrnpc: (arum.)

[personal profile] aftrnpc 2018-07-21 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
[There's another lengthy pause, the hum of a processor taxed beyond measure, straining to pull together circuits of memory that have long since degraded.]

Ai't-Ai't-Ai'ttttttT -

D-D-D-

DATA ERASED.
fireindreams: (♪ The mantle of "chosen" passed on)

[personal profile] fireindreams 2018-07-21 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Grimm's eyes narrow, although this time out of confusion rather then anything else. That certainly is a reaction. Either the data was erased prior or it was because he asked.

Either option is not comforting. Dropping pretenses, Grimm asks another question.]

Why was the data erased? Is it so people outside of Ai'tuoh cannot ask anything about it?

[To say they do not sound like the most friendliest people is an understatement.]
aftrnpc: (arum.)

[personal profile] aftrnpc 2018-07-21 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Another skip and judder, the squeal of electronics straining to close a loop that has been barred for them.]

S-s-source of deletion unknown.

[One thing, however, may be clear: the fact that there is a very defined difference between data corruption and data deletion. While age and wear is inevitable, particularly under these circumstances, there's no ignoring the bottom line:]

[That particular data was erased on purpose.]

External mnemonic-onic-onic-onic purge l-l-l-likely.
fireindreams: (♪ And his legacy soon to be mine)

[personal profile] fireindreams 2018-07-21 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Indeed. Grimm could not completely discard the possibility of a lie taking place, thus far there has been nothing but honest answers. The machine's memory was being worn down by age, but this had been cut out of them completely by someone and on purpose.

Perhaps it was possible to restore it but that would be out of Grimm's hands. He did not have the experience to repair such a machine and would likely just make the situation worse. But with the connection to Ai'tuoh possibly established, along with the information gained from speaking with Muffet regarding the apparent objection to the domain of stories the Storyteller ruled over....perhaps...]

You will have to forgive me but there is another question on my mind. After this I will leave you and attempt to seek a way to repair what is damaged. Do you or the ones who created you know of a God called the Storyteller?
