June Aftermath: Magic Lantern Strange

JUNE AFTERMATH: MAGIC LANTERN STRANGE
Who: Everyone!
What: A celebration!
When: Evening of June 21st, and well into morning
Where: Ensō, E3 and E4
Warnings: Mark as needed!

Slide the Light Off You
As promised, the evening of the 21st finds the Jormun hosting a party on Ensō's largest beachfront. Near immediately, it should be clear that they've spared absolutely no expense when it comes to showing their story-walker brethren a good time.

Of course, they may also be...showing off a little.
The stalls and comfortable seating supplied around multiple firepits appears to be a mishmash of Jormun built contraptions and items requested from the Storyteller- many may be delighted to see the variety of beach cushions and blankets, items the Jormun will be happy to let their story-walker friends take home at the end of the festivities. A veritable smorgasbord of food and drink is also readily available, from the kid-friendly options of brrshavak (a spicy drink with a taste akin to liquified chili pepper) and molkavarr (a rich chocolaty broth) to the alcoholic rakvrhak (a rich wine that tastes oddly plumlike). Do be warned, however, that the last is incredibly potent.

Large slabs of driftwood have been laid out to form impromptu tables, bristling with the Jormun's culinary expertise: fried squid, seaweed wraps, spicy pickled kelp, kebabs of roasted eel, hard-boiled snapling eggs, and so on. The vegetables and meats of the sea have been laid out for all to enjoy, so tuck in!

Throughout the evening the air will be filled with the sound of music, with multiple Jormun eager to show off their skill in instrumentation. Conch-shell horns, carved driftwood flutes, urchin-needle harps, and countless more contraptions engineered by a deep sea-dwelling people fill the air with the most peculiar but nonetheless not unpleasant sound. Most of the bands will be set up in the shallow waters, however, as their instruments are not made to be used in open air - try playing them above the surface of the water at your own risk.

Of course, there's plenty more to entertain even the most difficult of people.

You're Living the Strobe Light
Those interested in proving their strength and skill will be encouraged to enter one of the many tournaments across the shoreline. The tournaments vary, featuring such challenges as play fights with the schlacknorkcvic to prove who is the greatest warrior, timed events to see who can stay on a bucking tigershark for the longest, and even a tourney of brovonkosshk, a board game somewhat similar to chess. Don't see anything you're interested in? Make your own. If you can think it, the Jormun will happily accommodate it - impromptu challenges are the highlight of such evenings, after all, though the Jormun won't be taking any responsibility for the first poor soul that decides to usher in a drinking contest.

A small variety of walker games are also available. Jormun children are more than eager to play such games as hide-and-seek or red light, green light, while Connor Murphy will be bringing his Cards Against Humanity deck, for those ready to completely screw with the idea of a fourth wall. There's even a game of Spin the Bottle... except the bottle is being spun overhead like a mace. Being hit by said bottle requires you to do a stupidly ridiculous task, so perhaps it's best to avoid that particular adaptation...

And of course, there's the lightshow.

As mentioned previously, the main show of the evening is the show of brssticca: bursts of magical light beneath the water that will put any fireworks show to shame. The lights are safe to wade and swim through, do keep in mind that the phosphorescent algae tends to cling to the skin. And should you reach into those spiraling, fluorescent nebulae of patterns beneath the surface, some of the configurations of light may abruptly shatter like broken glass.

Additionally, skilled Jormun will be happy to assist those who care to dress up for the event with intricate applications of shellivthiss - a style of waterproof body paint that is not only bright, but luminescent. Something the Jormun may forget to mention, however, is how similar shellivthiss is to henna; should you decide to get all dolled up, except to shine bright light a diamond for weeks to come.

Lastly, those who wanted to bring their own adventures are welcome to as well! Supplying some dope roast? Bringing those sweet, sweet greens? Have some alcohol to supply? All is welcomed by the Jormun - and undoubtedly, your fellow adventurers as well.

[Kravitz is admittedly enamoured by the swordwork; while a simple blade like that isn't his typical weapon of choice, it's intriguing to watch him move, someone who seems so at ease in combat. He's standing nearby as Keith does another flourish, and finally finds it in him to approach.]

Where did you get a weapon like that, that changes so fluidly? Is it magic?
thermalwind: (...okay but weekly clears when?)

[personal profile] thermalwind 2018-07-06 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Might be. I never asked. [He slows his movements, turning the blade as it snaps back into a knife.] It's actually supposed to stay in one shape when I will it to.

Went weird here. [He spins and sends the blade that morphs back into a blade with a burst of purple off spinning. It curves, just like he'd made sure it would. He leaps up and catches it by the hilt and drops back down.]

I know the planet they were made on doesn't exist anymore.

It does seem like the sort of thing that would respond to you. It's interesting. Are you bonded to it somehow?

[He's seen soulbonded weapons before, his own scythe sort of on par. It's not exact, being a gift from his Goddess, but not everyone need be in service to have that kind of weapon.]

You say it's not responding to you as well on the island?
thermalwind: (yeaaaah dps again)

[personal profile] thermalwind 2018-07-11 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods. There’s no need to say more than necessary. Keith lifts the sword. A long line of purple cuts across the middle of the blade and comes down to form a symbol. He traces it with his finger tips.]

I guess you could say it is bonded to me. I awoke it in a trial. [The fact his blade was his mother’s he keeps to himself. Some facts are personal. The blade returns to a knife and he tosses it up, catching it on the way down.]

Ever since it obeys me. [He pauses, glancing at Kravitz.] What do you know about bonded weapons?
deathfindsaway: (« [Smile] don't fear the reaper)

[personal profile] deathfindsaway 2018-07-15 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[It's interesting, the way he moves with a flourish. Proof he's good with it, a real connection. He sort of wishes his own weapon was so versatile. But Keith breaks him from his thoughts with the same sort of question, and he grins a bit. Holding out an arm, the handle of a scythe materializes in his hand. The handle stands above his head- which for a man at six feet, isn't a small feat- the blade curving wide and imposing over his head. There's very little decoration to it other than a bird skull over the top to cover that end of the blade, but the handle is largely devoid of decoration. He looks to it fondly.]

I know a few things about them, I would think. Seeing as I've had one of my own for quite a long time. It doesn't obey exactly like it did back home here, either, but it hasn't been too much of an inconvenience.
thermalwind: (??)

[personal profile] thermalwind 2018-07-16 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
[He moves closer to get a look at the weapon. The blade is huge and he can easily imagine it carving through targets like they're nothing. But he can't picture the swing. He's never seen a scythe in action. It's definitely a weapon that's used.]

How does it look when you swing it? Can you show me?

[If it's bonded to him does that mean there's no need to account for weight? The questions are written all over his face. He's studying it with a fascinated awe.]
deathfindsaway: (« [Smile] his eyes light up when he sees)

[personal profile] deathfindsaway 2018-07-18 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[He can't help but smile, taking a few steps back. Obviously, this thing has a hell of an arch. He positions one hand near the blade's top, the other a bit further back.]

Of course. There's a few different ways it can move. I tend to start here for close combat. The trick is building up momentum.

[He does a swing or two in this position, mostly for bumping a target back, and then extends his arms and lets the handle slide out until his hands are near the bottom. He curves it in a wide arc over his head with a quick spin, and after two swings it's easy to hear the way it cuts the air and could knock anything in it's path.]

The more you can keep the swing-- the better it is. Certainly not in the way you'd use it for a farming tool.
thermalwind: (moment's over)

Thought I hit this back

[personal profile] thermalwind 2018-07-31 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I can see the difference. Different from staff fighting too. [His eyes had tracked the movement of the blade. He’d wondered at the weight as it carved through the air. The range is impressive. Keith grins.]

Now I can see it. So, as long as you have momentum you’re at your most effective?

Where did you start for longer ranged combat? [This is really cool. He would need practice to do this kind of fighting effectively. But he can’t thinking of Paladin armor and their jet pack. That would be a kick start of momentum. Maybe a wind spell behind the fighter could work too?]
deathfindsaway: (« [Smile] just this once everyone lives)

its okay!

[personal profile] deathfindsaway 2018-08-12 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
[He pulls himself to a stop, shifting his hand up on the scythe to gain control back and planting the end in the ground.]

Exactly. They have to stop you at the start or it builds to be impossible. Catch an enemy by surprise, and you have them.

[He's had some close calls, but in a thousand years, he's never, ever failed.]

For long range... I tend not to do a lot of it, frankly. I have a lot of movement, it-- this has another function, you see.

[He grasps it with one hand near the blade and another about halfway down, and cuts the air in front of them. Instantly, with a sound like tearing silk, the space simply opens to a rift. If Keith looks through it, he'll see a scene at the other side of the party... and Kravitz' hand, as he sticks it through and waves it a bit before withdrawing himself and the portal closing.]

It makes sure I'm never too far away. A bit more... limited, here, than it was back home. I used to be able to go anywhere I wanted.
thermalwind: (he's right behind me isnt he)

[personal profile] thermalwind 2018-08-14 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Close range with rare long range. It makes sense to him and he nods, following along. Until the rift opens. Keith's eyes go wide and he looks behind them towards the other side of the party and his eyes go wider.

The full picture paints itself in his head. Kravitz's ability to move in a battle would put him in the best possible position at all times. He looks back at him and finds his voice. Wow.]

...I've noticed that about abilities here. Even a bayard is really limited. I wonder if it has to do with how we ended up here.
deathfindsaway: (« [Explain] its called updog)

[personal profile] deathfindsaway 2018-08-17 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
[He can't help smiling a little at the amazement; it's been a while since he found people who were impressed and didn't just drag him for not being able to throw fire from his hands. But the question still leaves him with a shrug.]

I honestly don't know. I spoke to the Storyteller when I arrived, but there were very few answers. I've seen everyone I know show up changed, it's-- unsettling. To imagine even a god doesn't know what would have more power than it, the ability to rewrite existence. But I suppose anything with the power to pluck individuals still alive across universes can likely do whatever it wants.
thermalwind: (dont make me the mt)

[personal profile] thermalwind 2018-08-26 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
...could it be a tear in the heart of existence? Kind of like an accidental gateway? [He asks, his thoughts on the very reason for Voltron's existence. ]

I can't think of what else it could be if it isn't a being making this happen. I've...never met gods. They aren't out in the open in my universe.
deathfindsaway: (« [Serious] rules are rules are rules)

[personal profile] deathfindsaway 2018-08-30 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose it's possible. There are-- greater and lesser gods, of course. There must be someone at the top who at least began it's path. But I simply don't know how it wouldn't destabalize. Just because one creates something doesn't mean they can break it's rules without consequence.

[And if they can, he's even more pissed.]

The world needs balance. All worlds do.
