JUNE AFTERMATH: MAGIC LANTERN STRANGE

Slide the Light Off You
As promised, the evening of the 21st finds the Jormun hosting a party on Ensō's largest beachfront. Near immediately, it should be clear that they've spared absolutely no expense when it comes to showing their story-walker brethren a good time.

Of course, they may also be...showing off a little. The stalls and comfortable seating supplied around multiple firepits appears to be a mishmash of Jormun built contraptions and items requested from the Storyteller- many may be delighted to see the variety of beach cushions and blankets, items the Jormun will be happy to let their story-walker friends take home at the end of the festivities. A veritable smorgasbord of food and drink is also readily available, from the kid-friendly options of brrshavak (a spicy drink with a taste akin to liquified chili pepper) and molkavarr (a rich chocolaty broth) to the alcoholic rakvrhak (a rich wine that tastes oddly plumlike). Do be warned, however, that the last is incredibly potent.

Large slabs of driftwood have been laid out to form impromptu tables, bristling with the Jormun's culinary expertise: fried squid, seaweed wraps, spicy pickled kelp, kebabs of roasted eel, hard-boiled snapling eggs, and so on. The vegetables and meats of the sea have been laid out for all to enjoy, so tuck in!

Throughout the evening the air will be filled with the sound of music, with multiple Jormun eager to show off their skill in instrumentation. Conch-shell horns, carved driftwood flutes, urchin-needle harps, and countless more contraptions engineered by a deep sea-dwelling people fill the air with the most peculiar but nonetheless not unpleasant sound. Most of the bands will be set up in the shallow waters, however, as their instruments are not made to be used in open air - try playing them above the surface of the water at your own risk.

Of course, there's plenty more to entertain even the most difficult of people.

You're Living the Strobe Light
Those interested in proving their strength and skill will be encouraged to enter one of the many tournaments across the shoreline. The tournaments vary, featuring such challenges as play fights with the schlacknorkcvic to prove who is the greatest warrior, timed events to see who can stay on a bucking tigershark for the longest, and even a tourney of brovonkosshk, a board game somewhat similar to chess. Don't see anything you're interested in? Make your own. If you can think it, the Jormun will happily accommodate it - impromptu challenges are the highlight of such evenings, after all, though the Jormun won't be taking any responsibility for the first poor soul that decides to usher in a drinking contest.

A small variety of walker games are also available. Jormun children are more than eager to play such games as hide-and-seek or red light, green light, while Connor Murphy will be bringing his Cards Against Humanity deck, for those ready to completely screw with the idea of a fourth wall. There's even a game of Spin the Bottle... except the bottle is being spun overhead like a mace. Being hit by said bottle requires you to do a stupidly ridiculous task, so perhaps it's best to avoid that particular adaptation...

And of course, there's the lightshow.

As mentioned previously, the main show of the evening is the show of brssticca: bursts of magical light beneath the water that will put any fireworks show to shame. The lights are safe to wade and swim through, do keep in mind that the phosphorescent algae tends to cling to the skin. And should you reach into those spiraling, fluorescent nebulae of patterns beneath the surface, some of the configurations of light may abruptly shatter like broken glass.

Additionally, skilled Jormun will be happy to assist those who care to dress up for the event with intricate applications of shellivthiss - a style of waterproof body paint that is not only bright, but luminescent. Something the Jormun may forget to mention, however, is how similar shellivthiss is to henna; should you decide to get all dolled up, except to shine bright light a diamond for weeks to come.

Lastly, those who wanted to bring their own adventures are welcome to as well! Supplying some dope roast? Bringing those sweet, sweet greens? Have some alcohol to supply? All is welcomed by the Jormun - and undoubtedly, your fellow adventurers as well.

[RIP-here lies Shion, a fool, who thought anything involving Ren would be simple. Watching her is likely to bring up more questions than it answers, but she nods all the same and-

Begins the game.

Flipping two of ESP's cards, a couple of her own, staring at each other until ESP leans back to stretch and-

Guess he wants to hold.

Which means he wins again!!

Without explaining any of this, Ren flips one of her own cards and shoves another rock his way.]

He won. That's how it works.

[He watches this, he can see no pattern to the cards. No reason why the cat won. Except that he's a cat.

But there has to be some kind of rules... Ren likes games, which means she must like actually playing them.]

How did he win? What made his cards better?

[catpiper]

The numbers are supposed to reach '21' and then you win. He gets extra points because he's a cat, so he always wins.

[That's it. The real rules mixed with fake ones that have turned this game of chance into something terrible.]

Oh. [The cards had to reach 21. That was an actual rule that made sense. He nodded.] Perhaps he thinks you should get extra points for being a human.

[Nani the he-

Why didn't she think of that!! Surprise overrides every other emotion on her face and-]

[catpiper]

[She deals out the cards with freaking ferocity, waiting for ESP kitty's signal, flipping over the numbers only to promptly declare-]

Now it's a tie.

[savedbyasong]

[He smiled faintly at the look on her face and watched as the next round was played.] Well done! So now what happens? Do you play until one player has all the rocks?

[catpiper]

Yes. You can use other treasure if you don't have rocks and want to play too.

[Basically, it ends when she says it does.]

I can find some rocks. [They are on a beach after all.] Can three people play or is it a two person game?

[catpiper]

You can play too. I'll help you.

[Since ESP isn't a cheater, she folds her cards into the deck and pushes it his way. Guard it, young catawan. You're their only hope.]

We'll find a lot together.

Okay [He smiled at her and the cat before turning to look around for rocks.] Thank you Ren.

[catpiper]

[And off she goes, ambling over to the shoreline to find some choice rocks for Shion to play with. He won't be able to beat this cat, but she's still rooting for him.]

I found some! And seashells-those are worth extra points.

They are? [He has a handful of rocks as well. Was that a rule? Ren surely just made that up? But still he gathered some more seashells as well until he hand his hands full.] We've probably got enough.

[catpiper]

[There's a 200% chance she made that up on the spot, after finding a few choice sparkle shells with some drips of glowy paint on them. Nice.

And when they return, ESP is being the best boy, rolling over the deck of cards like the wonderful guardian he is. He's really just shuffling? Incredible. What a talented cat. She loves him so much.

And as much as it pains her to pull the cards out from under him, she does slowly, letting him keep most of the deck.]

Okay, now you can go all in and I'll give you the cards.

Alright. [Go all in, that meant to put all of his rocks in the middle. He remembered that from learning to play poker.] All in, deal the cards, Ren.

[catpiper]

[She is gonna deal the shit out of these cards. Some for the cat, some for Shion, some for her. Cat goes first-that's law and he wants another card flipped.

Close. Looks like he's gonna win again, even with the extra human points in their favor. Her own hand is, hm, not great. She's not gonna reach that magic number, so she turns to Shion-]

You can say 'hit me' and I'll give you a card.

[But she doesn't have high hopes he'll beat ESP, the purring gambling menace in front of them.]

[Add up to 21, he has some cards that might do it? Does he have to use all his cards? What do the cards that are just pictures mean? Are they worthless?] Hit me, Ren.

[catpiper]

[Incredible-

Shion loses. Just like that. A single flip with no explanation as to what means what and she's reaching over to gently squeeze the cat's face between her hands, whispering good boy good boy the whole while.]

ESP won again. He did it! Cats are good at this kind of thing.

They are. [How did he lose? Shion doesn't even understand? This game is complicated.] Well done ESP. Would you like another round.

[Maybe this time will make more sense.]

[catpiper]

[It won't ever make sense and ESP gives a happy little trill, stretching his paws forward to bat at the rocks. Yeah, of course he does. He's rolling in bank right now!!

And of as long as this continues, the cat will win. Over and over, regardless of the cards or amount played. At least Ren will give him a seashell consolation prize, by the end of it.]

[ESP does win. Shion tries his best but no matter what cards he had, or how much he tried to figure out some kind of pattern or tactics it is no use. The cat wins.

He doesn't mind though, the cat is cute and Ren seems so happy. Soon Shion is out of rocks.] Well it seems like ESP is the champion.

That's right. He's a 'champion' and a good boy.

[The guy's a good sport though.]
