JUNE AFTERMATH: MAGIC LANTERN STRANGE

Slide the Light Off You
As promised, the evening of the 21st finds the Jormun hosting a party on Ensō's largest beachfront. Near immediately, it should be clear that they've spared absolutely no expense when it comes to showing their story-walker brethren a good time.

Of course, they may also be...showing off a little.

The stalls and comfortable seating supplied around multiple firepits appears to be a mishmash of Jormun built contraptions and items requested from the Storyteller- many may be delighted to see the variety of beach cushions and blankets, items the Jormun will be happy to let their story-walker friends take home at the end of the festivities. A veritable smorgasbord of food and drink is also readily available, from the kid-friendly options of brrshavak (a spicy drink with a taste akin to liquified chili pepper) and molkavarr (a rich chocolaty broth) to the alcoholic rakvrhak (a rich wine that tastes oddly plumlike). Do be warned, however, that the last is incredibly potent.

Large slabs of driftwood have been laid out to form impromptu tables, bristling with the Jormun's culinary expertise: fried squid, seaweed wraps, spicy pickled kelp, kebabs of roasted eel, hard-boiled snapling eggs, and so on. The vegetables and meats of the sea have been laid out for all to enjoy, so tuck in!

Throughout the evening the air will be filled with the sound of music, with multiple Jormun eager to show off their skill in instrumentation. Conch-shell horns, carved driftwood flutes, urchin-needle harps, and countless more contraptions engineered by a deep sea-dwelling people fill the air with the most peculiar but nonetheless not unpleasant sound. Most of the bands will be set up in the shallow waters, however, as their instruments are not made to be used in open air - try playing them above the surface of the water at your own risk.

Of course, there's plenty more to entertain even the most difficult of people.

You're Living the Strobe Light
Those interested in proving their strength and skill will be encouraged to enter one of the many tournaments across the shoreline. The tournaments vary, featuring such challenges as play fights with the schlacknorkcvic to prove who is the greatest warrior, timed events to see who can stay on a bucking tigershark for the longest, and even a tourney of brovonkosshk, a board game somewhat similar to chess. Don't see anything you're interested in? Make your own. If you can think it, the Jormun will happily accommodate it - impromptu challenges are the highlight of such evenings, after all, though the Jormun won't be taking any responsibility for the first poor soul that decides to usher in a drinking contest.

A small variety of walker games are also available. Jormun children are more than eager to play such games as hide-and-seek or red light, green light, while Connor Murphy will be bringing his Cards Against Humanity deck, for those ready to completely screw with the idea of a fourth wall. There's even a game of Spin the Bottle... except the bottle is being spun overhead like a mace. Being hit by said bottle requires you to do a stupidly ridiculous task, so perhaps it's best to avoid that particular adaptation...

And of course, there's the lightshow.

As mentioned previously, the main show of the evening is the show of brssticca: bursts of magical light beneath the water that will put any fireworks show to shame. The lights are safe to wade and swim through, do keep in mind that the phosphorescent algae tends to cling to the skin. And should you reach into those spiraling, fluorescent nebulae of patterns beneath the surface, some of the configurations of light may abruptly shatter like broken glass.

Additionally, skilled Jormun will be happy to assist those who care to dress up for the event with intricate applications of shellivthiss - a style of waterproof body paint that is not only bright, but luminescent. Something the Jormun may forget to mention, however, is how similar shellivthiss is to henna; should you decide to get all dolled up, except to shine bright light a diamond for weeks to come.

Lastly, those who wanted to bring their own adventures are welcome to as well! Supplying some dope roast? Bringing those sweet, sweet greens? Have some alcohol to supply? All is welcomed by the Jormun - and undoubtedly, your fellow adventurers as well.

"No, no, it's fine." Quick, think of an excuse! Because as much as she's doing this because of awkwardness, he looks like a kicked puppy. And that hurts. A lot. If Noctis finds this out, who knows how much he'll chastise her later over this. Be nice to his friends...

"I have a girlfriend, and she's the only one I feel comfortable trying to dance with. It's not on you at all." One thing their shared friend taught her? How to effectively lie. Congrats, Prompto, you're the first person she's had to lie to here.

If only she knew that Noctis had seen this a thousand times. There was a reason why he immediately assumed he'd get rejected.

"Oh, yeah, that's cool. Don't worry about it." So she had someone. A girlfriend, no less, which pretty much took her off the table of possibilities. Not that that made him less nervous. Lady Lunafreya hadn't exactly been a 'possibility' in his life, either.

"I was just asking cuz, you know..." he gestured behind himself as he over-explained, "party and all. So I thought maybe I should ask. But it's fine! I mean, you probably want to dance with your girlfriend or something."

Maybe it's not this reason why Noctis would yell at her. This was not the same Prompto, she doesn't need to be scared. If no one found out what she did... "Do you know how hard you're making this not to suddenly say 'yes, I'll dance with you'? You are incredibly adorable."

And Pyrrha knows her girlfriend is an absolute flirt. Never acts on it, but if she can hit on others, that's enough for her. "I just don't want Noctis mad at me. You're one of his besties, and I already had dad mad at me once. Well, more than once."

His face was turning red and he was trying so hard to hide it. The fidgeting on his feet was too intense to be relaxed even as he tried to play it off as if he was nonchalant about the whole thing.

"Oh, y-yeah, I get that a lot." No he didn't. He just didn't know what else to say as he rubbed his neck a bit and glanced away. But there was definitely something else he could address. He became completely serious suddenly.

"Was Noct being rude to you?!" He completely missed the 'dad' bit, because this was Noct. Noct was too young to be a dad. "I can make him apologize!"

"Huh? Nyactis being rude? Naw, he's like the most chill dad of all my dads. That dude would forgive anything." Let's never bring up the fact that he straight up forgave Nari for murdering him. "I'm far ruder than that cat of a man will ever be. He's a complete sweetheart."

Which was true when it came to those who were family. She's seen him around people he disliked and she's glad that he didn't hate her. "The whole time I've known him he's always been helpful and kind. Gentle, too. I can go to him for anything and he'll listen. That's why I call him dad, by the way. He's way better than my own father ever was. You've got a good brother right there. Though you're still way cuter~"

"Nyactis?" Such a cute way of saying it. But, luckily for Noct, it seemed like he was off the hook. "Heh, it's a little weird to think of anyone calling him 'dad'. Especially someone my age... But, at least he's not being rude to girls. ...Why would he be mad at you, then?"

Because girls couldn't do anything wrong. He couldn't imagine what she could do to make him angry. Honestly, Noctis wasn't the type of guy who got angry easily to begin with.

Still, that last part. He flushed a deep red, never quite meeting her eyes as he barely managed to stutter out an answer, "I... I can't really compare to how cute you are."

"Well....... let's just say I did something that a lot of people were more than happy to condemn me for. But he forgave me."

And in the end Noctis was only mad because Nari use a holodevice to change herself into Regis when killing him. He wasn't even mad about the murder part!

She snorts and lets out a loud laugh. "Oh my gods, seriously? Me? Cute? Hardly. Believe me, honey, I was in a mansion with some of the cutest and hottest people I have ever met in my life. I am plain Jane compared to a helluva lot of people, including a cutie like you."

Shit. Shit, how did he respond to that? He danced around in place, eyes flitting around as if he might find something that would help him out here.

"No way. You must've been there because you were hot, too." All attempts to act cool were failing as his face heated more and more and he became less and less able to look her in the eye. "No one would ever think someone like you was a 'plain Jane'!"

He swallowed. It really was one of the first times anyone was calling him cute, much less a girl.

"Yeah, Junpei said the same thing." Still finding it hard to believe. It's been a year and she's in hella denial.

"But hey. Anyways. You totes look like you're about to pass out from all that blood rushing to your head. Need something cold to drink? Or just a cool down? I can do either." Because having Prompto pass out would be not good. And Nari can tell pushing this guy to this point is not something she should be doing.

"Junpei knows what he's talking about then."

At least he had invisible backup. When she pointed out his redness, though, he cleared his throat. "It's just hot outside. All the sun and stuff, you know. And my skin's a bit pale... It goes red easy!" He was not very good at coming up with excuses under stress, and the fidgeting on his feet and change in tone that made it obvious he was saying whatever he just thought of didn't help. "W-We could... go get a drink together? Maybe?"

Was that like asking her for a date? Not exactly, right? He just didn't feel it was right to ask a lady to go get a drink for him. Guys were the ones who were supposed to do that!
