Then Know That My Life Was Just a Killer Dream
You can find most of the information you need in the OOC info post! In the meantime, feel free to use this log as a catch-all for your dream worlds, as well as detailing your efforts to free one another. Whether they're on Ziziphus or Ensō at the time of the dreams' capture, your character is free to access as many dreams as you like, as the interlocking mental landscape allows for that sort of crossing over apropos of nothing. And time, of course, is very fluid in dreams - many days, months, and years can transpire in a matter of mere minutes.
Will you fight your way free from Ziziphus's vines or Mu's thrall, or are you content to die in your sleep?
Remember to let us know if your character dies during this event!
Event Timeline
[ ♆ ] May 15th: The vines make their move, ensnaring characters in ideal fantasy worlds
[ ♆ ] May 17th: The Storyteller will make contact with those they can, as well as issue information and a potential solution
[ ♆ ] May 18th: Those that have not freed themselves from the vines or from Mu will suffer a death
( CODED BY BOOTYCALL )
i'm really sorry in advance
[Unfortunately for most, he had not.]
[Ardyn Izunia knew only hatred and fury, all of which was amplified by what the daemon within him saw as humiliation. To have a fragment of humanity again drawn out and taunted with all he had once desired was toying with him in a way the avatar of destruction could not tolerate. It made him angry, truly enraged in a way that turned the underlying fury of his eternal background noise to a deafening roar that could not be ignored.]
[Or restrained, judging by the blackened scourge on his face and neck staining pallid skin. Destroy, screamed the malice within him, and the will animating the unliving corpse agreed. The thing that was responsible would die, whether at Ardyn's hands or another.]
[And that was how he came to find the god of the idyllic dream. For once, there was no long grandiloquent speech; only seething hatred from the human-shaped monster with the blackened eyes and corpselike appearance, bringing flames to his hands at a thought. Now as ever he wore an empty smile on his face--but today it was less a hollow gesture and more as if he was reveling in the idea of what the god of this island was about to suffer through.]
Burn.
[And with no more than that, he threw a Fire spell directly at the creature itself.]
=)
[They remember you. A Lucian King with scarlet hair wild as wind, with a patient smile and a soul-deep ache to live in the world they built for you. You were so happy there, Ardyn. You were happier, by far, than you are here and now.]
[When Bliss speaks, the words ooze out in a sleepy mumble, spoken slowly, as though issuing them aloud is a difficult, dreary task.]
Lucis...Caelum...mmm...
[A curtain of vines swells up to try and counter the infernal blast. It singes through easily, and the god's eyes crease into deeper furrows in apparent agony.]
Were you not...happy...
no subject
[The name came out viciously, snapped like the jaws of a starving havocfang. White crystals flashed, bringing a scarlet greatsword to his hands. He'd like to see it block with no vines left to raise.]
I rather thought that went without saying. Do I look happy?
no subject
[A soft rumble of a sigh, almost wistful.]
It is the one thing...I always know...when you are at your happiest... [A pause. More thick vines begin to writhe their way out of the soil, the decaying plant matter underfoot - the atrophied, decomposing remnants of their own dead and dying self.] Are you angry...because I knew best...or because you regret what you saw...
Your happiness...came from within...Lucis Caelum...
no subject
My name is Ardyn Izunia. Scourge of the star, immortal Accursed, enemy of gods and mortals alike.
[He was angry because that was all he knew. Anger, hatred, spite--the only happiness Ardyn Izunia knew was the malicious joy in watching others writhe and suffer at his words and actions.]
[He was angry because he was forced to see that beautiful kingdom and know for the first time in two thousand years a feeling called contentment, called happiness, called unconditional love. As he was now, he would gladly have seen the kingdom burn. But without his own distorted mind veiled in black...what, then? What was he, what could he have been?]
['No matter what I say, no matter how hard I push you away--that isn't me.']
[Like hell it wasn't. There was no distinction between what he once was and the monster he lived as now. It didn't matter, he told himself. None of it mattered, it was just a dream, that world and those sentiments were all just a lie.]
If a dream is what you think to be an ideal happiness, then allow me to grant you sleep eternal.
no subject
[You forget, Ardyn: they saw you for what you most desperately, hungrily crave. Someone who could call another little flame and mean it. Someone who was loved and trusted by his closest advisors, by every one of his subjects. Subjects, yes...that was something of what he craved.]
[Perhaps he is angry, the god considers sleepily, because he does not wish for anyone to have known that those desires were his.]
You were happier...so happy...I could take you back...I could let you live that life...forever...
[For a certain value of "forever," of course. But to him, in the contented stream of a dream's strange, winding passage of time, it would feel like forever, as his mind died, as his body faded.]
I could even...bring him back...your brother...sweet brother...
no subject
[His brother? His brother, who hadn't even been an afterthought in such an idyllic world? There was no point in resurrecting Somnus Lucis Caelum, even if only to kill him. Ardyn had basically done that already, now hadn't he? Not that manipulating the Wall and the Lucii had come to much, but it had been some faint satisfaction.]
[His brother didn't deserve the acknowledgement. Didn't even deserve Ardyn taking him apart and watching him suffer. And the idea that the person he despised most in all the ages of the world would be invoked so carelessly only made the cruel smile turn to a snarl, voice dropped to a low and vicious growl:]
I don't take offers from gods.
[Ardyn threw the sword upwards, following it in a streak of magenta light to get himself airborne at a better angle. Let him break his legs on the way down for all he cared, it would just regenerate. Flames returning to his hand, he threw another Fire spell in midair--it was no Firaga, but he would have to be creative.]
So why don't you find happiness in a mercifully quick death--?!
no subject
[Ah, well. It was perhaps worth a shot. Bliss doesn't sound fussed, even as the chunks of fire start to rain down, sizzling as the embers begin to pock their flesh. They're not nearly swift enough to deflect the attack as it begins to smolder at them in earnest. There's little more than a quiet, sad little sigh, like they're maybe disappointed in themself, or disappointed in him.]
You've been doing...little else...these past months...
[The flames begin to ache and burn, charring the strips of their heavy flesh black.]
But it is still inside you...it has always lived...beneath your rot and your posturing...older than any curse...
no subject
[Life, dreams, hope--they were all so immaterial. Transient as a fleeting thought, and disregarded just the same when the moment passed. Where did they go, once time's infinite march carried one past such idle fantasies? And where had they come from, wrenched so painfully out of a blackened and unliving heart?]
[Such thoughts were all meaningless. The moment had gone, the dream evaporated, and in its place lived only destruction. Destroy, destroy, destroy shrieked the scourge and the daemons.]
Is that some pale excuse of a plea for mercy? [He took the sword in hand again, tilting his head like a bloodthirsty predator studying its injured prey.]
Because I fear you'll find sentiment no longer lives here.
no subject
[Your fantasies came from you. From within. It is what you, what everyone, earnestly craved. And they gave you that. Are you not pleased with them?]
[Evidently not. Too bad that Bliss is too far removed from a state where they might care.]
Mercy...from you...that's very funny...
[Their vines are going to aim for his sword hand next.]
no subject
[Ardyn stepped back in an attempt to evade the vines' grasp, the long and thin sword brought down like an executioner's blade at them in response.]
no subject
You cannot lie to me...I have seen what you crave...

[So instead, they simply do their utmost to swarm him.]
