January Event: Setting Fire to the Sky

JANUARY EVENT: SETTING FIRE TO THE SKY
Who: Everyone!
What: The sun dies, and the creatures of the night emerge from the depths
When: January 21st - January 28th
Where: Everywhere! Ensō, Monsun, Chol, and the Islets
Warnings: Character death, possible body horror and violence. Please mark any additional warnings as needed!
So We Can Take the World Back From the Heart-Attacked

The night of the 21st, the sun begins to dim. It dips in the horizon, sinks to nestle itself in the center of Chol like a star falling in slow motion, where it begins to smolder quietly - massive, smoking, and hot, like a massive egg. The night grows colder, the sky reduced to an inky black. The surface of the surrounding water is still but for the occasional ripple, the odd, strangely subdued wave, with not even the hollow lights of distant stars to glint off its reflective waves.

The Jormun gather around the sunken, dying sun with their scaled hands on their weapons, their expressions grim. They fan out across the island of Chol with arms in hand. Their fortifications have settled around the island's center in a dense ball of bristling weapons. They have been preparing for this. They are ready to fight.

Are you?
No island is safe. From the well-trodden mainland of Ensō and its islets to the stark dichotomy of Monsun to the craggy shores of Chol, all manner of strange things have begun to haul themselves, dripping, from the watery dark.

No more preparation. No more running.

From here on out, it is fight or die.
One Maniac At a Time, We Will Take It Back

As the Storyteller has promised, there is sanctuary in their temple on Ensō, which will keep out the worst of the creatures. It will not, however, protect characters from the cold and dark, and so they will have to keep themselves warm some other way.

The Jormun fight fiercely, but they do not fight alone. Aside from the help that the willing of your number have offered, you may glimpse the Storyteller battling alongside the rest in a flurry of strange, shifting animal shapes: a heavy-antlered reindeer, a shrieking owl with outstretched talons, a slavering grizzly bear with the Storyteller's signature tome strapped across a broad, furry back, to name but a few. Those creatures that the Storyteller defeats will burst into a flurry of paper and dark, spattering ink, rather than being felled in the conventional manner. How odd.

As this is an event with a high risk of death, the Storyteller will impose death penalties for one week only. However, deaths succumbed during the event will count towards the character's total.
Then I'll Raise You Like a Phoenix

Come the sunrise on the 28th, the sun will launch itself into the air with a victorious shriek, its wings trailing plumes of fire behind it. The phoenix takes flight, reborn from the ashes.
The shores of Chol are littered with corpses, both shadowy and scaled, along with an even smattering of crumpled paper and splotched inkstains. Despite the triumph of the fight, it did not come without its costs. The Jormun gather their dead and prepare to mourn them quietly. Those who perished in the fight will not see the sunrise from this unique perspective, watching the murk of the night tint to soft, milky yellow and pink, and then to a glorious new day.

Munin will greet the survivors with a mixture of solemnity and relief, thanking them profusely for their help. There is not much more that her people can offer you, at this point - they must grieve their dead, and she must return to the sea to prove that she has cemented her worth as a leader in the eyes of the other Jormun - but that does not mean that your stories will part forever.

[The Knight may, as they drag themself into the safety of the temple, notice a very large insectoid watching them very carefully. Golisopod sits near his resting trainer, antennae twitching as he approaches the tiny creatures curiously and sniffs at them. He dwarfs the Knight completely, hulking mass bent double to even get a decent glimpse at them, then points one large, clawed hand toward a small pile of berries by his trainer's pack. He rumbles, unsure if this creature can understand him, but he's inviting them to his share of berries. The yellow colored one should heal them. Or so he believes...it helps him, anyway.

Guzma isn't totally asleep, but rolls over and lifts a hand when he hears his pokemon rumble, reaching out for them blindly. Golisopod lumbers over, bumping his head into Guzma's hand to reassure him he's there and he's okay, before turning back to the little Knight.]

[ They recognise these more readily than candy, at least. And Golisopod looks like a bug - though he doesn't talk - and so they're more inclined to trust than they would be otherwise.

Still, though, Golisopod is very big, so they stay very still as they're approached. It's just an instinct - no offense meant. After that greeting is over with, they drag themselves over to the berries, curling around a yellow one.

It helps, though it's consumed very slowly. In the meantime, if Guzma wakes up, he might find a tiny figure wrapped around a berry, still bleeding shadow into the air.

[Golisopod moves away to give the little creature some space - he understands wariness around himself - it's a constant thing he deals with even from people. His antennae twitch as he notices the oozing mist of shadow coming from the Knight's body, and tilts his head. He makes a low, rumbling noise by his trainer, prodding Guzma in the back to try and rouse him.

It works, and the man grunts before shifting, rolling over and opening his eyes with a deep scowl. He opens his mouth to complain, blinking the sleep from his eyes, but Golisopod grunts and nods toward where the Knight stays, slowly nibbling on a berry, and bleeding into the air. Guzma turns his head, moving to lay up on his forearms as lean over the tiny insect.]

Whoa...hey there, Li'l Pinsir, you...y-you doing alright? [He can see that wispy smoke, and it does him a big concern.]

[ The Knight doesn't pay attention to the movements around them until the person they'd met before is looming over them. In their current state, it takes them a little while for the words to process.

After a long, bleary moment of staring at Guzma's face, they sort of wiggle closer and reach out to gently pat his cheek. Looks like they're okay, or as okay as they can get.

They point to Guzma, weakly. Another little headtilt. Is he alright?

[Immediately, Guzma jerks back a little, surprised by the action - there are very few people that touch him like that, on the face, and fewer still that get away with it. He can feel his heart racing, muscles tense and lips pressed together, but he exhales slowly and remembers this is just a little thing...a little bug, in fact. He pats the Knight's head with a large hand, smiling down at them. Man, he really doesn't like how worn down they look, though.]

Yeah, I'm fine... Been roughed up worse'n this plenty'a times. But y'all look real bad, homie, c'mon, take a rest here with me'n my pokemon. [He looks at the nibbled upon berry they had before, and turns toward his Golisopod to rub between his antennae.] Looks like y'all made friends with this big guy already, yeah? Not shocking, Goli likes li'l kids what do right by 'im.

[I wonder where he picked that up from.]
