January Intro: I Know the Winter's Getting Colder

INTRO LOG: JANUARY
Who: Everyone!
What: New souls arrive to the archipelago of LifeAftr
When: January 5th and onward
Where: Chol and surrounding waters
Warnings: Mark as needed!

The Overview: New Lands
New arrivals will not be waking in the typical hub of activity; instead, they will find themselves coming to on the small island of Chol. While the island's fringes are little more than an unforgiving spread of craggy, canyon-like rock and coastal cliffs, the island dips down to form a fertile divot of edenic woodland in its center. The people living there will even be helpful and polite to you, should you inquire after them.

All new arrivals will additionally awake with knapsacks, their names stitched to the front. The contents of said knapsacks can all be found in your acceptance notices!

Icebreaker: This is the Winter of Our Youth
Unless you're someone with a fondness for the cold, you'll undoubtedly be waking with more than a slight chill in your bones. The appearance of the island of Chol has signaled a coming event of great import in LifeAftr, and unfortunately, the signs of that event's approach have already been set in motion. The temperature has begun to drop as the sun's rays begin to die, faster and faster, leading to an impressive cold snap in the ocean waters - particularly those surrounding Chol.

It is for that reason that you won't be waking on Chol, per se. Instead, you'll be waking on a thick crust of ice that's mantled itself over the ocean waters, freezing solid enough to bear your weight...for the most part.
The ice won't hold forever; it isn't meant to. If you happen to be particularly vivacious in your waking, or especially active in general, thick cracks will start to spiderweb out from underneath those impacts with low, warning chunks and wrenches of fracturing ice. Better hurry to land soon, unless you care to take a little dip into those freezing cold ocean waters.

Mainland: When We Pick Over the Past
Should you make it to the land of Chol, braving the iced-over waters surrounding its craggy shores, you'll encounter something at least as startling - the people who have elected to set up a rudimentary encampment upon its lands. While a bit on the scalier side, the Jormun are nonetheless allied to you land-dwellers, and will welcome you to the island.
Most will be preoccupied with preparations for an approaching siege, but many will comment idly that the cold is a sign of the coming battle. Some may point you to their leader, known to most as Munin, but others will venture hospitality based on the actions of those land-dwellers that came before you, who were successful in allying themselves to this sea-dwelling people.

Those who might have braved the cold a little too fiercely will quickly be offered some rather rough blankets - perhaps more on par with burlap sacks in terms of texture - as well as a hot brew that the Jormun call brrkshavak. Heated to a boil just prior to being served, the drink will be more than adequate in warming your weary bones, though it bodes mentioning that it is both scalding hot and made with a fleshy kind of undersea herb that is akin to crushed chili pepper in taste.

It'll warm you up, all right.

As a final note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme, bear in mind that those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.

Right. [Ritsuka briefly looks up to the pointed direction, squinting his eyes a bit. He doesn't see anything but small foot prints on snow leading somewhere. The little guy hadn't take a long to get back to him so the place (his home perhaps?) could't be too far.

He doesn't try out the soup just yet, partly because of the suspicion. He accepts the blanket given to him, clumsily wrapping it around himself with one hand. ]

So, do you live in here?
lightlessfuture: (embedded in a song, both kind and cruel) (både vänlig och grym)

[ They shake their head, and then lean down a bit to scrawl neatly on the snow.

just arrived .

like you .

It's not hard to tell that Ritsuka is also a newcomer.

[Ah. The little thing can't talk? Somehow he hadn't even considered that. Maybe it's normal for the people around here? But then again didn't they just say they're not from here.

Just like him.]

You woke up on ice too. Do you have a base? Or something like that?
lightlessfuture: (it stirred deep within my heart) (♪ den rörde djupt i mitt hjärta)

[personal profile] lightlessfuture 2018-01-07 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[ They shake their head for yes to agree to the ice, and no for 'do you have a base', but they do gently pat at Ritsuka's arm and then point, more insistently, towards the direction they came from.

It's warmer there, big creature!! You can't just sit around in the cold all day, that's not conductive to survival.

[Ritsuka doesn't flinch or try to move away from their reach when a small hand touches his arm, instead he looks at the pointed way again and frowns a bit. They're not from here and don't have a base (a word that he feels silly for using for but he can't help himself from thinking RPG) either but there certainly is something in the direction.

His gaze lowers down to the bowl that's been warming his hand and after hesitating few seconds he raises the bowl up to his lips and drinks the soup. There's not much taste in it, which suits him just fine. Besides, in this situation flavor is secondary compared to warmth. The more he drinks the more he can feel his strength returning to him.

After several sips he lowers the bowl again and looks back to his companion.]

Thank you. So um.. Did you want to go there?
lightlessfuture: (spoke of the song of life) (♪ talade om livets sång)

[personal profile] lightlessfuture 2018-01-09 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ They think of how to explain that it's not that they want it, necessarily - them wanting anything is sort of a secondary concern - but they'd like Ritsuka to go, because he'll probably freeze left out here by himself.

Then they give up because that's too hard, and nod in what's clearly a firm yes. They gently tug at Ritsuka's hand with both of their own, indicating that they want him to come too.

[Well, you can't really get more clear than that. Ritsuka pulls his hands back and quickly packs his things before standing up. Clumsily he throws the bags over his shoulder and pulls the blanket on.]

Right. Lead the way.
lightlessfuture: (and i returned) (♪ och jag kom tillbaks)

[ The Knight takes it slow, to avoid losing their bigger companion. All things considered, it's not a very rough walk to the island encampment, though Ritsuka may find the sight of the Jormun a little startling.

When they've reached the edge of it, they point at one of the fires dotting the camp, and then gesture at Ritsuka. They're pretty sure he should go sit down and get warm. It'd be good for him.
]
growingpains: (You can't change me)

[personal profile] growingpains 2018-01-23 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Even though Ritsuka isn't very experienced walking on such snowy and uneven ground (common problem with kids living in the big city) but he doesn't have any troubles with keeping up his guide. His legs feel tired and heavy when they arrive to the camp side and he can feel the sweat drop on his back despite the cold weather.

The little one is right to assume that the Jormun's appearance shocks Ritsuka. He doesn't say it out loud but his eyes are wide open when he observes the strangers.

Luckily he quickly spots another almost identical blanket placed next to the fire. This must be where his new acquaintance found the supplies.]

Are these your friends?
