December Adventure: Turn Your Face Towards The Sun

NEW ISLAND: CHOL
Who: Everyone!
What: There's a brave new world to explore
When: December 14th and onward
Where: Chol
Warnings: Mark as needed!

The Overview: Chol
On the dawn of the 14th, characters will awaken from a brief, rather harried dream with the Storyteller who has advised of a new island accessible through the mana pool. Welcome, adventurers, to the island of Chol.

The edges of Chol are unremarkable, craggy bits of cliff and rock, gradually sloping upward into a vaguely mountainous region. While there's not a great deal of natural life growing here, characters may nonetheless notice the odd prey animal scuttering about, only to vanish in the steep cracks running along the cliffsides.

Once the island's hardened exterior is crossed, the rocky canyon gradually gives way to a gently sloping valley that, the further down you go, reveals an atypically verdant center. The contrast is not sharp to the point of unbelievability, but it's clear that the valley is where the most life is sustained in earnest. The rock dips in an almost craterlike fashion to favor the fertile heart of the island, around which the people who live there has established a rudimentary encampment.

Chol Outskirts: Do Not Break
As described above, the island of Chol is composed of mostly rocky ground, with very little fertile soil. Further examination of this land will prove that the composition is hardly a natural one- the dips, valleys, and sharp rocks reminiscent of craters that scar the land. It's not surprising that no one lives here.

There is, however, still things of interest to find here. Scouting Jormun will be happy to stop and direct characters to camp, whilst others yet may have goods to trade. All will point anyone with questions to the center of the island, where their leader resides- but if you're willing to accompany them in their scouting and hunting duties, you may just find this amphibious race warming to you quickly.

Chol, C3: Just Carry On
At the sloping center of Chol, a veritable village of tents can be found, with Jormun hurrying to and throe. In the center of this point, they seem to be busy building walls and spiked partitions- and surveying all of this is their mighty leader, Muninshhashvark.
But please, call her Munin, if that's easier for your less wet tongues. Here, trade is at it's peak, with plentiful interesting items on offer- for the right price. Adventurer's can feel free to wander through the encampment, though try not to get in the way of anyone who looks particularly busy.

Munin however, though in the center of everything, is more than happy to be approached-- by anyone willing to look past the fact that she is an eight foot tall snake.

"Our weapons are of a unique sort." There is a spot of pride in Munin's voice as she locates one such weapon and presents it to him, proudly.

He might not recognize it...but those who first arrived on LifeAftr's shores might.

It is nice to have some confirmation in regards to the land-dweller's age, at least; she was unwilling to assume him to be younger or older than her rough estimate, and said estimate cannot be said to be particularly accurate.

"There are a few among our number - those with silver scales. If you ask after Rachsharnahac and Grasversherim, I believe you will find your way to them eventually." A moment, and she sees fit to add, a bit sheepishly, "I suppose land-dwellers such as yourselves may have difficulty with those pronunciations. Rach and Gras, then."

He laughs, “I think I can say the full names. But I’ll do what saves us all time.” Galra names are short but not every ally of the Voltron Coalition has an easy to pronounce name. Keith turns his attention to the weapon, noting it’s many edges. He would only know it’s weight and the drag from swinging it if he tests it for himself.

“They are unique. Can I see it? How is it balanced?” A few tasks are down. He has so many to go.

"Certainly." She hands it over. It is about as wet as its exterior would imply; slick with saltwater, some parts of it squirming unpleasantly as though alive in some fashion or another.

"It is not necessarily the sturdiest of weapons, but we have imbued it with the capacity to rebuild itself in seawater. With a great many of them concealed all around the island, we have ensured that, even when taken off guard, none of us will be truly defenseless."
thermalwind: (...maybe we shouldnt)

“Whoa.” He grasps the weapon carefully. It’s slick, wielding this he’ll have to be doing it in Marmora gear. A tiny spark of excitement dances in his eyes and he lifts his gaze from the sickle. “Is this alive? It’s moving...” Sturdy or not, a regenerating weapon would be extremely useful.

Caches all over the island...he’d have never thought of that. “This is really cool.” Keith turns away and swings it. Light, he would have to know how sturdy it is to use it properly. He turns back and holds it out. “Thanks for letting me see it. Are they all the same shape?”

"Certain parts of it, yes." Not the whole thing, certainly, but the sickle is its own ecosystem, in a manner of speaking. "They come in many shapes, but the sickle is...most conducive to our needs."

Her teeth glint in a wide, friendly smile when she nods in the direction of the weapon.

"Keep it. I assure you - we have many more."

He grins back, stowing the weapon into a weapon strap he’d already traded for. There’s not much more he can say or do right now. Better to get right to work. “Thank you for seeing me and answering my questions.” Keith nods, “I’ll get back to assisting where I can. It’s an honor working with you.”

He turns to go, pauses, and adds. “If we come up with any solid ideas of defense that could help, I’ll let you know.”

"Thank you, story-walker, for all your help." The farewell is a courtesy, but it is also a sincerity. He may be young, but he is capable, just as Munin herself is. It eases some of the strain of her smile, to know that she is not alone in this fight.

Just as the land-dwellers are not alone in theirs.
