The New Arrivals: Hold My Hand
When you wake, it will be to the lapping of waves, frothed with foam...pulling at your hair, your skin, your clothing. The sand is soft and wet beneath you, but it's several inches submerged. And the longer you stay here, the more obvious it will be that the water level of the ocean ringing this strip of island has begun to to rise, and not merely because the tide has started to come in.
And what's more? You can tell that something else about this entire situation is horribly, horribly wrong.
Perhaps you've lost some special power. Perhaps some piece of your memory is freshly and disconcertingly blank. Perhaps you've just discovered that one of your senses is missing, or that you've been rendered unable to speak, or you've been struck by a debilitating fatigue. Not only are you stranded in some unfamiliar place, stuck on a rapidly flooding beach, but you aren't even doing it in full possession of all your faculties.

For those who agreed to put themselves at a disadvantage for a stranger, these are your consequences. If you're unclear as to the handicap your character has been assigned, if any, please check your initial acceptance notice!
All new arrivals will additionally awake with knapsacks, their names stitched to the front. The contents of said knapsacks can also be found in your acceptance notices!
For All: It's a Long Way Down
The water isn't a problem for the newest arrivals, either. It seems that the waters all over Ensō have started to rise, slowly at first, and then with a steadily increasing rate. At first, you might be forgiven for assuming the tide must simply be unusually high, or maybe that the island's begun to sink. But the longer it endures, the more obvious it becomes that neither is the case.
The water has begun to rise. Something is wrong with the island itself, or the being living on it, and now there is nothing preventing the water's inexorable approach as it steadily washes over and over the mainland. In fact, if you listen closely, you might even be able to hear a peculiar sound tearing over the cold rush of the coastal wind; something akin to a desolate wailing.
Either get to high ground - and quickly - or find out what's causing this. But either way, we suggest you hurry...because there are a great deal of newly arrived, very disoriented folk on the beach that could really, really use your help.

As a final note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme, bear in mind that those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.
Feeling a tad adrift? Make sure to check the Locations Page, which has details regarding the starting areas and a handy map for those who feel better with a bird's eye view!

[ water ]
distraction
What's going on? Are they okay?
no subject
[ being close to Mickey fills her with a little more comfort than when she was alone with Chiffon. The dog pokemon seems extremely uneasy. ]
no subject
I'm not sure what it is, to be honest, but it definitely wasn't there yesterday!
distraction
Though faint, the wailing sound that has haunted the island since the flooding began is beginning to change direction- something that a smart, intelligent dog such as Chiffon could certainly pick up.
Whilst not rapid, it is clearly heading in their direction, something Luna may be capable of picking up for herself, several moments later.]
no subject
Chiffon, it's...it's 'kay. Stay calm. [ Relax. You can't think if you're hot headed. Something she's picked up from someone here on the island. What good character development!
The wailing grows louder and louder. Luna's skin starts to crawl, and she tries to keep her focus up front, watching the area in front of them.
It's just...somewhat unnerving. The crying.
Perhaps someone's lost? ]
no subject
Well, Luna? Chiffon?
Will you investigate?]
no subject
Luna's hand on her companion's back almost forces Chiffon to be calm. ]
...hello?
no subject
Despite the fact that the wind is blowing in the opposite direction. It's smart enough, at least, to give Chiffon a wide berth, dancing around the pokemon so that it can land safely on Luna's face.
Congratulations, Luna. You've found +1 torn page. The parchment is old, and blank- and perhaps, familiar.
And not even remotely a good sign.]
no subject
A paper?
Chiffon loosens up and sniffs at it from her place at Luna's side. Smells like someone hasn't been coloring enough. Luna's brow furrows...it does look familiar. From that time when she was able to speak with them in the woods. Asking what the blank pages were for. ]
Storyteller? [ she pauses for a second and then shifts the page in her hands to look at both front and back. Nothing.
A chill rushes down her spine. What the heck?? Won't they miss this?
She wanders further in the direction the page came from. ]
no subject
Almost as if Luna and Chiffon are completely alone in their venture, until, finally, there is a flicker between the trees once more. A second page, practically ripped in half with the force of which it had been removed from the spine of a book.
It is also blank.]
distraction
[hey luna, it's crow again, who appears to have been summoned by the sounds of your strange dog]
one billion years later...
I...don't really know. I think she can hear it better than I can. But...she seems nervous. Chiffon!
[ the pokemon looks up at her again. :C u no near dis??? The pokemon whines softly!! Pls!! Pls no more of this!! ]

water
C'mon, I'm so close! This has gotta be the mother lode and I'm not letting a little water stop me.
[If he takes too long though the water will definitely stop him so it's time to pick up the pace. Without warning he starts tossing handfuls of sand behind him as his digging gets more enthusiastic, unintentionally throwing them in Luna's direction.]
no subject
She walks out to him, leaving her shoes and socks close together. She comes over and crouches nearby. He's digging. A good, digging boy. She peeks at his tail. ]
Are you lookin' for something?
Water
Eventually, Ammy will make her way to where the little trainer is and bark lightly at her. Does she need a lift? Water is indeed a bit of a drag, and getting wet is horrendous. This lily pad is fit for two, and if a grown adult man can fit on it with her without sinking...then a little girl should be no problem! She could probably float them around for a little while, or at least until they get to higher ground.
Something is definitely not right with the tides, and Ammy wonders what even is going on. A new threat? And after they all suffered so much just a few scarce weeks ago... It seems much, but she has to take it with a grain of salt. Whatever she can do now is better than nothing at all.]
no subject
Just watches in wonder and some shock. Is her friend? Floating? Floating? Floating on a lily pad?
She just keeps floating. Floating. FLoating on a lily pad.
Luna's face lights up and she waves. ]
Are you having a nice ride?? How'd you get on there? [ pure wonder. She approaches the pad and touches it just a little. ] ...do you mind if I sit with you? I won't be too heavy, right?
[ she can just keep walking if she'd weigh the pad down. >:C puppy hates water. This is proven fact. ]
no subject
Of course the pad will easily carry them both, and doesn't so much as sink as it does bob in the water slightly when Luna begins to get on, though Ammy does try to keep it steady so she won't fall into the water and get anymore wet than she looked like. Water, and being wet, is indeed a very terrible, horrible thing. Yuck.
But a leisurely float with a cute girl sounds lovely. Maybe Ammy can curl up in the girl's lap and nap a bit as they float on by on the waters. That sounds really nice... Or they could go pluck out some of what's left of the food? I mean, it'd be a good idea to check up on things. That was what Ammy was doing before she found the little girl here, after all.]
