November Intro: Red Sun Rises Like an Early Warning

INTRO LOG: NOVEMBER
Who: Everyone!
What: New souls arrive to the archipelago of LifeAftr
When: November 3rd and beyond
Where: Ensō
Warnings: Mark as needed!

The New Arrivals: Hold My Hand
When you wake, it will be to the lapping of waves, frothed with foam...pulling at your hair, your skin, your clothing. The sand is soft and wet beneath you, but it's several inches submerged. And the longer you stay here, the more obvious it will be that the water level of the ocean ringing this strip of island has begun to to rise, and not merely because the tide has started to come in.

And what's more? You can tell that something else about this entire situation is horribly, horribly wrong.

Perhaps you've lost some special power. Perhaps some piece of your memory is freshly and disconcertingly blank. Perhaps you've just discovered that one of your senses is missing, or that you've been rendered unable to speak, or you've been struck by a debilitating fatigue. Not only are you stranded in some unfamiliar place, stuck on a rapidly flooding beach, but you aren't even doing it in full possession of all your faculties.

For those who agreed to put themselves at a disadvantage for a stranger, these are your consequences. If you're unclear as to the handicap your character has been assigned, if any, please check your initial acceptance notice!

All new arrivals will additionally awake with knapsacks, their names stitched to the front. The contents of said knapsacks can also be found in your acceptance notices!

For All: It's a Long Way Down
The water isn't a problem for the newest arrivals, either. It seems that the waters all over Ensō have started to rise, slowly at first, and then with a steadily increasing rate. At first, you might be forgiven for assuming the tide must simply be unusually high, or maybe that the island's begun to sink. But the longer it endures, the more obvious it becomes that neither is the case.

The water has begun to rise. Something is wrong with the island itself, or the being living on it, and now there is nothing preventing the water's inexorable approach as it steadily washes over and over the mainland. In fact, if you listen closely, you might even be able to hear a peculiar sound tearing over the cold rush of the coastal wind; something akin to a desolate wailing.

Either get to high ground - and quickly - or find out what's causing this. But either way, we suggest you hurry...because there are a great deal of newly arrived, very disoriented folk on the beach that could really, really use your help.

As a final note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme, bear in mind that those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.

Feeling a tad adrift? Make sure to check the Locations Page, which has details regarding the starting areas and a handy map for those who feel better with a bird's eye view!

[If Wade could have only one word to describe his state of being right now, he's pretty sure soggy would be at the top of the list. He isn't sure if it was the island's water main breaking or whatever, but the mainland's starting to look like he imagines the Blob's apartment looks like every time he needs to drop a deuce. The new arrivals to this little corner of paradise (and he uses that term with only the utmost sarcasm) are in for a rude and wet awakening.

A splash of crimson suddenly catches his attention in the white of the ocean spray, and against his better judgement Wade finds himself making his way over. A little girl, younger than Clementine, her long hair stringy and saturated from the waves.

...Shit.

Wade acts purely on instinct. In one fluid movement he scoops the child up into his arms, staggering a bit as a wave chooses that exact moment to slap the back of his legs, and carries her over to a relatively drier portion of the island before setting her down and inspecting her. It doesn't look good-- he can tell that by the ghostly pale tinge of her skin, and he hears a notable absence of a heartbeat when he presses his ear to her chest.]

Okay. [Almost in a whisper to himself.] Okay. Lemme see if I can remember how to do this. Sorry I didn't brush my teeth this morning, kiddo.

[Pinching her nose gently with two fingers, he tilts her head back, coaxing her mouth open with his other hand. He clamps his mouth tightly over hers-- she smells and tastes like stale death and rotting ocean detritus, but he manages to suppress his revulsion long enough to give her two strong breaths into her lungs. Shifting position, he places his hands crossways on her chest and begins to push downward, willing her heart to beat or her lungs to fill with air.

This place isn't exactly a tropical resort, especially for little kids, but hell if he's gonna let this girl have such a terrible starting run.]

[ WHAT?

NO. NO. NO. Especially not a grown man trying to force her to breathe when she died by one strangling her last breath out of her! Rage overwhelms her as she thrashes against him in a hollow scream, finally raising a hand to freeze him in place because she doesn't have her scissors on her and they're usually her go-to for mild offenses like this.

But the paralysis takes a chunk of her energy, and as she sits up, she's back on her knees hurling up all the seawater that accumulated in her lungs and stomach. Long, dark strands of seaweed choke her on the way out, making her look full Ju-on, before her hand angrily snatches them and rips them out of her body.

He recovers from his paralysis as easy as [mash A to struggle free], but Sachiko is still hacking out shells and stones and god knows what else got into her mouth in the ocean. A baby octopus, sure, she spits one of those out too. ]

DONT... TOUCH... ME!!!

[ It'd be much more threatening if it weren't spaced out with gags and hacks of blinking sand out of her eyes. ]
