Ruins Mingle Log!

What: So a bunch of people headed up towards the ruins, so they've got to all run into each other and start to congregate, right???
When: Evening of the mingle log and onwardish.

The beach curves up a gentle slope until it meets forest, some manner of building visible through the trees. Further exploration of this area will reveal a dilapidated building of sorts; the architecture is indiscernible to even the most skilled eye. Despite looking as if it has seen better days, there are areas that offer some form of shelter...and who knows what else. Just because it appears uninhabited doesn’t mean you won’t wind up pleasantly, or unpleasantly, surprised.


[ooc: Hey y'all! I thought this might be a good place to start getting larger groups of characters together to do some exploring, settling down, banding together and figuring out rations, etc. Feel free to throw up any threads of your own for specific things like exploration groups, a gathering in the entrance hall, whatever strikes your fancy or that you think your character would organize. Have a party!

[That's really all they can say about it. It's part of a drifter's standard loadout, and vital to their survival.]

[But she cannot walk. They have that similarity, then? The Drifter cocks their head to one side at that, curious. They've not encountered anyone else with a sickness like theirs, but if something is sapping the strength from her system...]

[She huffs, a little bit frustrated at the statement. This person clearly does not know how their own equipment works, and she just knows she won't be allowed to take it apart and look at it more closely (even if she was allowed, she doesn't have the tools).]

No, I... [her old explanation doesn't work anymore. She didn't give up her legs to protect her village, there was never any contract with werewolves.]

Someone hurt my feet. [Her skirt is covering them, as she kneels on the ground, and she doesn't move it away. She doesn't need to show them off in order to explain it.]

He had to, [she adds, quickly] so I am not upset.

Are you ill?

[Someone hurt her feet. They cannot be repaired - she will have to make do without. There is no avoiding it, and they will not search for a solution if one does not exist.]

[In any case, she does not sound...bothered about it, exactly. She sounds well-used to issuing that explanation.]

[Whatever sadness or unease she was feeling is forgotten with a potential patient in front of her, and she perks up while moving closer to the blue-skinned stranger.]

What are your symptoms? Have you found a course of treatment that alleviates them?

[A shake of their head. They are not the first to be plagued by that illness, though they can hope that they will be the last, with the dissolution of the Immortal Cell that was poisoning the world.]

[Too late, as it were, for them.]

[A huff of annoyance, hands going to her hips.]

That certainly is not what I asked you. If your doctors believe there is no cure, I may still be able to create one, but even if I cannot I must be able to find something that can slow the progression or reduce the severity of your symptoms.

[It is not a matter of not believing there is a cure; it is the matter that none exists. She would be best not squandering her talents on a hopeless case.]

I've never heard of anything like that. [Nope, you're not getting away with this. There's a challenge in front of her, and Sieglinde Sullivan has never backed down from a challenge.]

What are your symptoms? Are you feverish? Do you hurt somewhere? Is there a problem with your lungs?

[A slow, solemn blink of those beetle-black eyes of theirs, and they seem to acquiesce. There is no harm in explaining it - it is, after all, as stated, not the least bit contagious.]

Come here. [She says, imperiously, gesturing the stranger closer. She wants to do a physical exam, despite not having access to any real supplies other than a first aid kit.]

I'm going to examine you.

[The Drifter eyes her warily, uncertainty written in the oblique tilt of their stance. "Examine" can mean a lot of things- not all of them good.]

[They got that much, yes. But they're still far from reassured. In fact, they've made a decision regarding how they feel about that already.]

[That's the long and short of it. They are not curable. And that is the bottom line.]

I want to assist you.

[They are dying, yes, but that is not the simple extent of it. The fact remains that they already have died, and there is no recovering from it.]

Do you think I am unable to help, or do you want to stay sick?

[That's the bottom line, isn't it?]

[They're already dead.]

If you were already dead you would not be able to communicate with me.

[So, the bottom line: no point.]

[She crinkles her nose, not quite knowing how to respond to that. Dead doesn't make sense, dead doesn't fit in with what she sees in front of her.]

You're not dead here.

[That, too, is inevitable. They will fight it for as long as they are able, simply because they can and because it is in their power, but the intricacies of their race - that which would require them to bare themself to her - does not allow for the sort of examination she doubtless has in mind.]

Everyone will be dead eventually. That does not mean you should let yourself needlessly suffer now.

[If there is no cure, that does not mean they will simply give up. But it does mean they will take their own life in their own hands, at their own pacing.]
