Ruins Mingle Log!

What: So a bunch of people headed up towards the ruins, so they've got to all run into each other and start to congregate, right???
When: Evening of the mingle log and onwardish.

The beach curves up a gentle slope until it meets forest, some manner of building visible through the trees. Further exploration of this area will reveal a dilapidated building of sorts; the architecture is indiscernible to even the most skilled eye. Despite looking as if it has seen better days, there are areas that offer some form of shelter...and who knows what else. Just because it appears uninhabited doesn’t mean you won’t wind up pleasantly, or unpleasantly, surprised.


[ooc: Hey y'all! I thought this might be a good place to start getting larger groups of characters together to do some exploring, settling down, banding together and figuring out rations, etc. Feel free to throw up any threads of your own for specific things like exploration groups, a gathering in the entrance hall, whatever strikes your fancy or that you think your character would organize. Have a party!

I've never heard of anything like that. [Nope, you're not getting away with this. There's a challenge in front of her, and Sieglinde Sullivan has never backed down from a challenge.]

What are your symptoms? Are you feverish? Do you hurt somewhere? Is there a problem with your lungs?

[A slow, solemn blink of those beetle-black eyes of theirs, and they seem to acquiesce. There is no harm in explaining it - it is, after all, as stated, not the least bit contagious.]

Come here. [She says, imperiously, gesturing the stranger closer. She wants to do a physical exam, despite not having access to any real supplies other than a first aid kit.]

I'm going to examine you.

[The Drifter eyes her warily, uncertainty written in the oblique tilt of their stance. "Examine" can mean a lot of things- not all of them good.]

In a medical sense.

[They got that much, yes. But they're still far from reassured. In fact, they've made a decision regarding how they feel about that already.]

If you do not allow me to examine you, I cannot assist you.

[That's the long and short of it. They are not curable. And that is the bottom line.]

I want to assist you.

[They are dying, yes, but that is not the simple extent of it. The fact remains that they already have died, and there is no recovering from it.]

Do you think I am unable to help, or do you want to stay sick?

[That's the bottom line, isn't it?]

If you were already dead you would not be able to communicate with me.

[She crinkles her nose, not quite knowing how to respond to that. Dead doesn't make sense, dead doesn't fit in with what she sees in front of her.]

You're not dead here.

[That, too, is inevitable. They will fight it for as long as they are able, simply because they can and because it is in their power, but the intricacies of their race - that which would require them to bare themself to her - does not allow for the sort of examination she doubtless has in mind.]

Everyone will be dead eventually. That does not mean you should let yourself needlessly suffer now.

[If there is no cure, that does not mean they will simply give up. But it does mean they will take their own life in their own hands, at their own pacing.]

But... I want to help you. [This isn't something she's encountered before, it isn't something she understands. She can help, she's offering her help, why won't this stranger just accept it?]

[The text, perhaps, does not make it an easy thing to weather. It comes across as clipped, when their reasons are far more personal than that hollow, impersonal method would suggest.]

[Her reasons are personal as well, and more than that she's not used to being denied anything, and especially not being denied the opportunity to help.]

But I can! [She insists.] I can help you! I don't know enough about you yet, but if you just let me help, I'm sure I can at least reduce your symptoms!

[A firm shake of their head. They cannot - will not bare themself to someone, no matter how kind their intent may be. What lies beneath the gray of their tunic, the scarlet of their cloak, is for their eyes alone.]

Do you want to die? [The Drifter can make that decision, and she won't stop them, she'll accept that choice. It doesn't mean she has to like it.]

If you do not want my help, I will not force you to accept it. But I have the ability to help you, please do not doubt my skills.

[That much is certain. They do not want to die. But they are familiar with the sensation; more familiar with that sensation, as it would turn out, than they are with those involved in being examined at any length.]
