October Intro: Aftermath Mingle

Who: All!
What: Now that you've all committed monkey genocide, it's time to clean up and go home.
When: Evening of the intro log- and onwards!
Where: The Monkey Compound, Islets, etc.
Warnings: Mark as you go!

Congratulations on effectively reversing the tables, adventurers. As the hunted become the hunters, the remaining simians begin to retreat into the jungle, disappearing from sight as the drumming dies down, before extinguishing entirely.

It appears that you have won.

Now it's time to clean up.

Those still in the Monkey Compound may wish to begin scavenging what they can, from multiple coconut guns to rudimentary spears. There's a flock of Bludroc happy to be herded to a new home, several stashes of fresh fruit to be found... and a rather large iron pot, for the particularly bold.

Others may be more concerned with returning to the islets and securing the personal belongings that were left behind. There are new people to settle in, as well; and undoubtedly, a few injuries yet to be healed.

Reunite, rejoice, recover. And perhaps, should you see the Storyteller about- ask a few questions.

"Aw, thanks a bunch, pal!" He'll try not to drink too much, only taking what he feels he needs.

"Ain't a problem."

He takes the waterskin back once Mickey is finished.

"Rough few days. Y'think theys more of 'em out there?"

To this, Mickey can't help but sigh. "I want to say that was the last of it, but... with this place, it turns out you can't really be too sure of anything."

He nods slowly. He's worn out--so is everyone. There's the sort of quiet melancholy that comes after a fight that results in great loss of life. It doesn't seem like the islanders lost many people, but all those monkeys. They might not have been people, but they weren't just simple animals.

"Yeah. S' wild 'ere. Unpredictable. Never any tellin' what'll happen or what we'll be facin'."

"I guess it's supposed to make for a great story," he says as he recalls the words of the mystical Storyteller. "But the sooner we get to happily ever after, the better."

He snorts a little at that. That's true, the story of everyone fighting the monkeys will be pretty dang epic.

"Soon 's a story finishes, 'nother one starts. S', uh...like chapters, mebe. Migh' be a while afore th' proper endin'."

Proper stories should start at the beginning and finish at the end. But things aren't always that simple.

Mickey blinks wildly - that's a very good point. "Chapters... I forgot all about those! A-and there are multiple acts in an opera, lots of lines in poetry..."

He smiles faintly at Mickey's enthusiasm. "Yeah. Plenty o' long writins. Guess that makes us th' characters."

"Guess it won't be a short story." Mickey scratches his cheek. "And the reader wouldn't be satisfied if we left without finding out all thw answers..."

He considers that for a moment.

"Fer all that theys called 'th' Storyteller,' theys really more f' a reader, huh. They ain't tellin' so many stories."

The Storyteller is keeping secrets, he's sure of it. Not that he particularly cares all that much. He'd hardly expect a god to not keep secrets. The Storyteller has been helpful, and Kid isn't interested in knowing everything there is to know about a strange god.

Mickey gave this some extra thought, cupping his chin and tilting his head. "... What if he's going to tell our story to someone else?"

"Must be, yea. Mebe future gen'rations 'r such."

"I hope they like it, in that case." Mickey couldn't help but smile a little.

He chuckles a bit at that. "Hope so. Gon' be a helluva story."

Everything on this island is just starting, but it's already feeling like something out of a legend. Mysterious people on a mysterious island, rebuilding civilization. The kind of stuff for proper storybooks.
