August Intro: You Think...You Wink...You Do A Double Blink...

INTRO LOG: AUGUST
Who: Everyone!
What: New souls arrive to the archipelago of LifeAftr.
When: August 3rd
Where: Ensō
Warnings: Mark as needed!

Part I: Get Wrekt
You rouse to a splash of sea salt drying on your skin. A haze of glass-white sand glitters in your vision, dappled by lush palms and thick, curling foliage that disappears into a jungle of deep jade. From behind, crackling wood and sawing rope groan from a mangled life raft ran ashore. A petering wash of tide over pebbled sand fills your ears as you struggle to gain your bearings in a vast portrait of tropical color…

No...no, no, that’s not precisely how this story starts.

Why don't we start over?

You rouse to a splash of sea salt, spraying across yourself and the wooden floor beneath you as it breaks across the edge of the platform. The light as it dances across the sea is blinding, dappling white spots across your vision as you slowly come back to consciousness and realize that - this is not where you last remember being.

The middle of the ocean is likely not a place most recall being at all. As you struggle to fully comprehend the new scenario in which you have found yourself, three things become quickly apparent. The raft you find yourself upon barely constitutes as something that should float, never mind a boat. In the distance, perhaps a few hours away at most, a large island beckons to you, a wide strip of beach surrounded by cliffs making it very clear where the most fortuitous of directions shall be.

Lastly, of course, you’re not alone. Hopefully your new companion(s) are just as keen to get ashore before nightfall as you, or voyaging together will not be the most positive experience. At your side you will find a knapsack, one to every member of your raft party, and upon inspecting its contents, you will discover any rewards you may have accrued - as well as a few other items to give you a fighting chance.

A note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme: those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.

Part II: Choose Your Own Adventure

By fortune (or misfortune, as it were), you eventually find your feet meeting sand, blessed shore to stagger upon as you shake off your newly found sea-legs. There are those that may find this place familiar, as though it appeared in a dream, though the expanse of shore certainly seems larger. The beach stretches off into the distance on both sides, curving around sharp ridges and cliffs, mist obscuring the view the farther along it goes.

So here you are. You’ve found land. Company. Supplies. The sun is now beginning to trek rather low upon the horizon…spending the night outside in such an unfamiliar land is unappealing at best and outright dangerous at the worst.

There is one silver lining in the midst of this mess. Directly ahead, the beach curves up a gentle slope until it meets forest, some manner of building visible through the trees. Further exploration of this area will reveal a dilapidated building of sorts; the architecture is indiscernible to even the most skilled eye. Despite looking as if it has seen better days, there are areas that offer some form of shelter...and who knows what else. Just because it appears uninhabited doesn’t mean you won’t wind up pleasantly, or unpleasantly, surprised.

So what shall you do from here, traveller? There is land to be explored, strangers to meet, friends to reunite with. Supplies to inspect and plenty of questions in need of being said aloud. Choose your path, make haste, and above all else: survive. And whatever you will, take heart.

Your story is about to begin anew.

[Weiss should have seen this coming from a teen whose first thought after 'I'm on an island' is 'I should find some cats'. Weird is about right.

That gives her pause and she tries to think of a better area. She doesn't know this place and it's hard to figure out the safe spots. Reluctantly, she decides to offer-
]

There's a building, but it looks scary.
whiteas: (no one else got grounded.)

[ Weiss shakes her head. She wouldn't exactly call it scary, but.. ]

If we've all been kidnapped and dropped off on an island, I'd rather not be all in the same spot when we get the announcement that we're suddenly part of the first Thirst Games or the Most Hazardous Game.

[ Look, her world's media is usually the same with slight differences- like Spruce Willis. ]

I've heard quite a few people are heading there.
catpiper: (all the banging and crashing around)

[personal profile] catpiper 2017-09-01 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Those don't sound like fun games.

[Her limited knowledge of games doesn't include either of those, unfortunately. All that comment does is confuse her and it shows on her face.]

The ocean has a lot of water. Is that where you play the Thirst Games?

[Or would it be far away from water?]
whiteas: (Wait 50 messages?)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-03 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
No. It's a literary reference- it's a book where a bunch of people kill each other because the government tells them they have to and puts them together in an arena. I don't want to be involved in anything like that, and even if it isn't that bad it's still far more likely to result in theft.

[ She's protective of her stuff, she doesn't have very much of it anymore. ]
catpiper: (just so many mcstabbins)

[personal profile] catpiper 2017-09-04 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
[WOAH THERE WEISS. She looks nervous. The heck kind of book is that??]

That's a bad book.

[But, well. The theft thing is easier to respond to.]

You have to hold onto your stuff. Nothing can take it then.

[The nothing referring to creatures. She doesn't think there will be enough people to worry about. Most of them are probably dead.]
whiteas: (You need to calm down.)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-09 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
There are a lot of strange books out there. If someone's kidnapping people to an island and giving them bare-bones supplies, I'm not discounting fictional scenarios as a possibility, as stupid a concept as it is.

[ Weiss doesn't understand why that would be an ideal concept to anyone. They had enough problems in the world to deal with without inventing ridiculous scenarios that would pull Grimm in from miles away so they're wholly unrealistic in the first place. ]

I suppose you're not wrong. I've just been picking up things I've found, I doubt anyone would know if something was abandoned or not here.
catpiper: (well here I am now talking at my phone)

[personal profile] catpiper 2017-09-11 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Is it kidnapping? It feels like she was rescued, honestly. The distinct lack of cats and her missing friend have been the only negatives so far. An island with food, water, living people and no ghosts? There are some creatures lurking around and the abrupt arrival in the ocean had scared her, but so far it hasn't been entirely bad.

Still, she's easily spooked and going to heed that warning.
]

Then we can run far away. If it gets scary, we don't have to fight.

[Cuz she ain't gonna.]
whiteas: (Time to think.)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-13 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
You don't have to.

[ Weiss absolutely is. ] If it gets scary, you're welcome to come find me. It's my job to fight scary things. I'm a huntress.

[ Or, she was in training to be one. She's been through enough shit she's basically earned the title though. She realizes that probably means nothing to someone not from her world after a moment. ]

It means it's my job to protect people no matter what. I can fight.
catpiper: (but your body screams)

[personal profile] catpiper 2017-09-14 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I can?

[It surprises her that someone could be that brave. The idea of being put into an arena to fight other people, or fight period, terrifies her. Weiss could get hurt, or die, doing that and yet here she is offering her help. It's hard for Ren to not worry about that.]

Will you be okay?

[She's watched Seto fight and doesn't worry about him, but she's never seen another person in action.]
whiteas: (Excuse you.)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-23 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That's a good question, since she's not really sure what this island has to offer. Different worlds have different danger levels. While this place seems relatively safe compared to her home.. well, they were barely on the coastline. Who knew what the rest of the island held.

But in her world, fear and other negative emotions drew monsters to you. A huntress's job was to protect, she wasn't going to intentionally cast doubt on some kid just because she's being realistic. ]

Of course I will. [ Besides, even if she's shaken from what happened at Beacon, she's decided not to doubt herself. ]
catpiper: (between the a and the q damn it)

[personal profile] catpiper 2017-09-26 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's not disbelief that makes her pause when Weiss responds. The answer is expected given the nature of her job, one that she doesn't quite understand, but she's surprised by her bravery all the same. If something dangerous rears its ugly head, Ren will remember to seek her out if hiding isn't a viable option.]

I'll look for you.

[And then-]

But if you get hurt, you can hide with me. That's okay too.
whiteas: (Weiss doesn't believe in destiny sorry.)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-29 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I appreciate that. I'm not against retreating if it's going to save my life.

[ Fighting is great and all, but fighting and retreating then replanning and trying again later with a much higher chance of success is also 100% acceptable. She'd really rather not die if she can avoid it, particularly if it serves no purpose in doing so. ]
