Who: Newt
ohnehalfte and Wade
ishotyouuu
What: One guy teaching another guy how not to die. Because lbr after 3+ years of these places, it's way past time for Newt to learn to defend himself officially.
When: 9/26ish
Where: Outside of Cottage 1 on Islet 2
Warnings: Um, probably some swearing? And trauma recall?? IDK, tags as it comes.
[The thunderstorms and rain have finally let up enough for Newt to venture outside, and none too soon. The egg he's been keeping watch over hatched just under two days ago, and it's high time he steps out of the cottage and shows Petrie a bit more of the world. Newt'd gotten up early that day--not that sleep was a thing that happened very easily anyway--and had brought Petrie to the shade of some coconut trees and let her explore their roots before it got too hot. She was a curious little thing, and it was pretty obvious that Newt had been instantly besotted with her.
She never wandered too far from him, and Newt had taken to carrying her in the pocket of his button-up shirt, which he's started leaving unbuttoned . In fact, he's just wandering back to the cottage around mid-day with a tuckered out Petrie sleeping in said shirt--he could use something to eat about now anyway]

Which is why he's currently in the space of land outside of the cottage, working on various martial arts and swordfighting drills while Tibia watches with avid interest from the sidelines. It's a lot more difficult to do without a partner, but hell if he's gonna be able to find someone who can actually keep up with him on this island.

It doesn't take Wade long to realize that he's got an audience. He pauses in the midst of a horizontal slash, immediately sheathing his sword and making his way over to Newt and Tibia with a scowl that does absolutely nothing to hide the hint of humor in his voice.
"What, you're winnin' over my kid, too? Startin' to rethink this whole friendship we got here, buddy-roo."

"Listen, dude, it's not my fault she's actually perfect." Newt lifts a hand, gently resting it on Tibia's skull. "Who wouldn't want to be friend with Tibia?" He leans to the side a bit so he can grin at her. "Right?"

"I'll forgive you just once, pal. Only because she seems to be havin' a good time. So! Aside from swooping in and attemptin' to take my little girl away from me, how're things on planet Geiszler?"

"Can't complain, can't complain. Tryin' to keep myself out of trouble, y'know how it is. Figured I'd get some drills in while the weather was good-- don't wanna ruin this fantastic physi-cue, know what I'm sayin'?
Considering it took him nearly a year to get back to the weight he'd started out with before his three-year stint in Haven, he's not completely joking about that last bit.

"I've...I've got my butterfly knife and Travis's beam katana, though it only works now and then, and some other stuff...but I don't really know how to use it. Not really." He chews on his bottom lip. "Do you think you could, maybe, show me how to use it?"

He's grateful when Newt finds another topic of conversation, and he looks the twitchy scientist over in a playfully dubious manner.
"I dunno, buddy... you're kinda askin' a lot here. I mean, I'm the best there is at what I do, but I ain't no miracle-worker."

"Hm. Think that might be somethin' I can work with, yeah. I just gotta get an assessment of how well you know your way around an edged weapon first, y'know? Have you ever used a weapon before?"
