It's time to party!

Who: Anyone!
What: After all the shit that went down in August and September and to help the newbies get settled, it's time for a party!
When: 26th October
Where: Outside the Denny
Warnings: Label any relevant warnings in your posts! Otherwise none that I can think of.

[It took a while to organise but it’s finally here! Outside the Denny is a warm fire with dragon meat and all sorts of other meat cooking on it. There is also food strewn on tables and various modern music in the background thanks to Michael’s phone.

Not only that but there are also games on a few separate tables provided by the Denny.

Feel free to bring your own food, drinks and games. Maybe you’re even helping cook some of the food yourself? Or you are keeping watch to make sure nobody causes any trouble! Or are you the person causing trouble yourself? Of course, none of you would dare do that, would you? WOULD YOU???? Or are you having a dance? Or maybe you're that wallflower who is just sitting there drinking and refusing to talk to people? Either way, feel free to come up with your own prompts!]
semistableman: of my own (★ never had a cherry valance)

Believe me, it helps.

[A text-based blackjack game sounds terrible, let's not.]

A friend of mine ended up in charge of a small unit, I was his second-in-command. I miss those guys, to be honest.

...I understand why, if not. But would you mind telling me about them?
semistableman: how about that (❅ you feel this way)

[personal profile] semistableman 2019-11-12 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Sure.

They were all made of soldiers rescued in a prison camp we were kept in. My friend, he rushes in as a one-man army to save the day. Most of 'em were from my unit, so it didn't take much convincing. Dernier was the only one who wasn't, and he didn't speak a word of English, but it didn't take much for him to join up, not with Gabe Jones knowing French.

...An acquaintance of mine had some similar determination to your friend, I imagine. Always saving us, even if he didn't hold rank. He was younger than I was, but far more talented as a soldier.

I did try to stay in contact with him after he left the knights, but he never did respond to me. Now he's more or less disappeared entirely, and I'm the Commandant. It's funny how things work out sometimes, I suppose.
semistableman: (★ i am so homesick now for)

[personal profile] semistableman 2019-11-20 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like they'd get along, honestly. Steve is... well. He wasn't even a soldier, not really. It's... complicated to explain, but he was there as a performer to boost morale. Heard I was among the people captured in a POW camp and save the day despite barely having military training under his belt.

What was your acquaintance like?

[personal profile] ideismo 2019-11-21 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Duke was... Well, he was always a bit of an odd fellow, I suppose. He tended to prefer the company of monsters to that of people; I wouldn't be surprised if he's living among them now, it seems the sort of thing he'd do.

He was quiet, usually. Very blunt, when he did speak, and extremely intense behind the eyes. But he was always very driven toward trying to do right by as many as he could, monsters and people both. He was friends with the Entelexeia, even, which is something that can't be claimed by many.
semistableman: (★ i would change everything)

[personal profile] semistableman 2019-11-23 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
Monsters? You mean like the creatures who live out in the islands, right?

[He's still not really used to the wildlife.]

Who are the Entelexeia?
ideismo: (26. Doubting angels fall)

[personal profile] ideismo 2019-11-23 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Monsters are something like that, yes. We do have livestock such as sheep and cows, and pets like dogs and cats that aren't considered monsters, but the creatures in the wild are...different. The tigerlilies here can be tamed, but they're obviously monsters as compared to cats. It's the same with the floral sheep.

[...apologies to your floral sheep.]

The Entelexeia are a powerful race of monsters, with intelligence on level with our own and a deep connection to both magic and the world itself. We used to build temples for them, and revered them as gods. But that was a long time ago.
semistableman: (☆ you hung me like a picture)

[personal profile] semistableman 2019-11-30 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
That's... so different from what I'm used to, it's kinda hard to wrap my mind around.

[At the comment about his sheep, though...]

Don't worry about her, she's too interested in destroying plantlife to cause any trouble for people. [He laughs quietly.] I have to keep the thatch away from her, otherwise she'll think it's food.

[When Alexei starts talking about the Entelexeia, he listens with curious attention.]

Sounds like something outta a comic book.

[personal profile] ideismo 2019-11-30 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, the monsters here are far more tolerable in that they can be tamed at all. The lorbies don't seem to be causing the sort of problems I'm used to, either.

[...and then there's next month and The Lorbening, but we are currently blissfully unaware of that.]

The Entelexeia are very real, though the Empire would quite like people to disregard their existence nowadays. We went to war with them a few years after I became Commandant; highly unpleasant business all around, and best left in the past.

[...I mean that also involves a huge coverup by the government, but. you do what you have to.]
semistableman: (★ but you won't ever let me go)

[personal profile] semistableman 2019-12-09 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose that makes sense. The lorbies can only really cause problems if you're around anything else that's unfriendly.

[Bucky will refuse to speak about the horrible lorby babies. It's fine.]

...Yeah. Makes sense. Weird, inexplicable shit tends to alarm the populace at large, especially if they don't know anything about the situation.
ideismo: (26. Doubting angels fall)

[personal profile] ideismo 2019-12-10 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
We've mostly managed to put the Entelexeia back under our control, or at least to a point where they'll think twice before trying anything against us again. I've had to put down a few of them recently; it's unpleasant business, but it's a necessary evil, unfortunately.
semistableman: (★ if i could do it all again)

[personal profile] semistableman 2019-12-14 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
That's... unfortunate. I'm the sort to try to avoid violence as much as possible.

[But he's built like a tank and has a metal arm, it's pretty obvious he wasn't a pacifist at one point.]

People have a tendency to create a bunch of problems all on their own, without other violent groups helping out.
ideismo: (Default)

[personal profile] ideismo 2019-12-16 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've known a few like you, who dislike violence... I've chosen to engage in it to protect people. Though I do wish sometimes that it weren't necessary.
semistableman: (★ i would change everything)

[personal profile] semistableman 2019-12-16 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'll fight if I have to. I have more experience with than that I want to admit. If someone is attacking others...

It's definitely easier when it's something like the dragon. Just attacking, and not the sort that acts like a person.
ideismo: (18. Of those I've served)

[personal profile] ideismo 2019-12-16 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Killing normal monsters is just the way of things for us, so I'd certainly agree that it's easier. I find it interesting that people here seem so fascinated with taming them.

[...]

Not that I can judge them for it, I suppose... I've been taking care of Yeager's idiotic lorby on top of my own lately.

[There's no malice to it, though; lorbies just...aren't very bright...]
semistableman: (★ if i could do it all again)

[personal profile] semistableman 2019-12-21 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
You can't blame 'em, people are obsessed with that sort of thing. I remember hearing that Phyllis Gordon had a pet cheetah.

[...Oh, wait. Alexei won't know what that is.]

Big predatory cat, it's fast, lethal, and not very friendly. I think she might've done it to cause a stir.
ideismo: (17. Among the thoughts and tears)

[personal profile] ideismo 2019-12-21 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[...Huh.]

People really will bond with anything if given the chance, won't they.
semistableman: (☆ and if i’m the king of cowards)

[personal profile] semistableman 2019-12-31 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Something like that.

The attention you'd get from causing ruckus in the press probably doesn't hurt, either.
