July Event: Riding the Wave

JULY EVENT: RIDING THE WAVE
Who: Everyone!
What: The Jormun reappear to allow some transformative fun...and potentially some underwater exploration as well
When: July 10th and onward
Where: Ensō and the ocean floor around it
Warnings: Potential (and fully optional) body/transformation horror may arise when undergoing shifts from land-based to sea-based shapes, and vice versa. Otherwise, tag as you go!

I'll See You on the Other Side
The Jormun resurfaced to greet their old allies on July 8th, bringing with them the offer to explore the ocean floor alongside them. They're not the only old friend that's made a return, however. The kaleidoshells, placid, rainbow-tinted creatures reminiscent of sea turtles, have also made their way to Ensō's shores for their nesting season. For much of the month of July, you'll have to tread carefully around mounds of sand hiding delicate heaps of kaleidoshell eggs.
Those of you uninterested in sea exploration can remain on the surface, if you like - the kaleidoshells can make for a stunning sight if you're glimpsing them for the first time as their shells throw off vibrant rainbow swirls of light reflected into the ocean waters.

Predators are always keen to feast on easy prey, and kaleidoshell eggs are no exception. If you feel like protecting them from any hungry slypers or pterax, you'll find that some of the Jormun are happy to stick on the surface with you and assist. They'll even lend you a schlacknorkcvic, which is the Jormun equivalent of a simple driftwood training staff, to help keep any thieving creatures away from the nests of kaleidoshell eggs - though they recommend that you do so peacefully, if possible.

Get Carried Away
Or you can brave the sea waters with the Jormun, instead. With the help of the sne'akleriad pendant, your new, aquatic shape will allow you to navigate the waters just as easily as they. Whether you intend to make use of this new skill to go roaming about and explore some of Ensō's uncharted ocean squares, take a look at that underwater structure that's been sighted before, or just have a joyous time beneath the waves with your new scaly, tentacled, flippered, or be-gilled form, the choice is yours.

[WHOOPS. Ginko snorts, and it's... actually sort of apologetic, because he does mean it when he says,] Sorry, that may've come out wrong.

Frankly, I'm just glad to know other people are having as much trouble adapting as I am.

Tch... well, firstly, this fish half don't move like what I expect it to... It's like--look, just watch.

[He tries to wriggle forward, and it's such a ilarious display of floundering that Golisopod's mirth equates into a horrendous bellow of laughter, throwing his head back and loosing a few bubbles as well. Guzma, unamused, clocks his Pokemon hard with a fist to his heavily armored side. It doesn't hurt either of them, but it does stop the chucklebug from laughing.] SHUT UP!!

You see?! It's like...wriggly back and forth. LIke I'ma tryin'a hula in the water with no legs.

I do see that. [At least by now he's getting a better handle on... y'know, not being too smarmy about it. He drifts closer with a somewhat clumsy flick of his own tail.] Probably be easier if it did move like a whale or dolphin's tail, but I guess fish aren't really built for that...

[Not that that fixes it... hm.] Maybe we should be thinking in terms of... how fish do move, rather than how we feel we should.

...Yeah, that don't work. Cuz I'm pretty sure there's no clear way for me to shoot water out my behind, even if I try really, really hard.

[Do you know how Sharpedo travel? By shooting water out their asses. They jet forward through water like little missiles, and Garchomp? Well, those actually have legs, unlike what he has now. Honestly, every shark Pokemon he can think of...defies the laws o how normal sharks traverse the waters in an s-shaped pattern. Pokemon physiology is just fucked up, man. It's fucked up and why he's not running a Pokemon Center anytime soon.]

To-- what?

[Ginko absolutely does not know that, and for a moment he's got to wonder if Guzma is thinking of fish or of octopi? But Guzma pretty obviously doesn't have an octopus body right now.

Ginko is going to have some questions later about how the hell fish Pokemon work. But that's for later.]
No, I meant more-- the movement of the tail itself, how to angle your upper body. That kind of thing.
yallstupid: (Just shut up and take this!)

[KANYE SHRUG.] Pokemon are weird, man.

I mean I...guess I gotta learn to shift my hips back and forth is what I'm thinking. Which, uh, I mean...I guess I can try?

[Hula's not exactly his thing thanks, even if he is an Absolute Killer on the dancefloor, and can indeed shake his hips and booty if needed. He's just not, uh...gonna share that little detail about how well he can move his hips to a stranger, thanks.]
onegreeneye: gotta listen to the leafs (sshhh)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2019-08-15 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[thank you, guzma, ginko appreciates not knowing more about your hips than necessary]

Something like that... it might help to start from the shoulders? Most fishes' movements seem to start from pretty far forward, and it might help with steering...

[Ginko looks down at his own tail, his mouth twisting slightly.] Yeah, I'm not sure there's a way to do this that doesn't sound ridiculous.
yallstupid: (Frustration)

[personal profile] yallstupid 2019-08-17 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Shoulders? That...doesn't really sound right, in context to the rest of him, but it's worth a shot? Guzma wrinkles his nose as knots his brows as he tries it, trying to shift his movements in the water and get some...sort of rhythm going. It doesn't so much propel him forward as it does make him wriggle in place like a bizarre sort of eel, or worm, and Golisopod can't help the muted gurgle of laughter that escapes his wide maw. This is the best entertainment he's had in a while.]

Screw this! I'm asking the dang fish people for pointers on this garbage. At least they won't judge. [He shoots a pointed look at his mutinous Pokemon.]

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2019-08-21 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
That might be a good call. And I might need to either go with you, if you don't mind, or ask for tips secondhand afterward.

[Because, wow, he feels like every time he goes anywhere like this he's moving at a crawl.]
yallstupid: (no1curr)

[personal profile] yallstupid 2019-08-22 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you're welcome to come with, homeboy, I ain't gonna nail your ins to the floor. [That, and he doesn't really want to play messenger boy to someone he doesn't even know. Whistling to get Golisopod over towards him, Guzma grabs one o the large, curved parts of his Pokemon's shell and motions for Ginko to do the same.]

Golisopod can taxi us there 'til we know what to do with ourselves, yeah? It's the least he could do. [Guzma huffs, glowering at his Pokemon, who has its mouth wide open in a mock sort of grin. 8D]
onegreeneye: (i'm hilarious okay)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2019-08-24 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Despite his interest in coming along, Ginko does hesitate for a moment, looking at the huge Pokemon - but only for a moment. Listen, he wants to figure this out, and also that thing is still kinda fascinating.

It's only a short, clumsy swim before he's close enough to take hold of Golisopod's shell, as well, and he snorts quietly.]
Should work. Uh... thanks. [Is he talking to Guzma or Golisopod? Unclear.]
yallstupid: (???)

[personal profile] yallstupid 2019-08-25 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Guzma grunts a response, and Golisopod...does the same, actually. Like Trainer like Pokemon, it seems. The trek through the water is indeed quick, and Guzma takes the opportunity of being led this way to try and do some mock swimming. With his hands gripped tightly on the insect's shell, he tries to move his tail, or allow the fins to catch the drag of water as their pulled - feel how the waters move against them and what way his lower half moves to compensate. It's pretty clever, and he gets a tiny sense o i, but...it'd be harder in practice, probably.

Thankfully, getting the assist from the Jormun isn't all that bad. They have their laugh at the others' expense (because of course), but teach them the basics of moving their fishy halves to at least get a good rhythm going. They can at least move forward now, instead of just wriggling around uselessly in the water like a demented worm.]
