JULY EVENT: RIDING THE WAVE

Who: Everyone!
What: The Jormun reappear to allow some transformative fun...and potentially some underwater exploration as well
When: July 10th and onward
Where: Ensō and the ocean floor around it
Warnings: Potential (and fully optional) body/transformation horror may arise when undergoing shifts from land-based to sea-based shapes, and vice versa. Otherwise, tag as you go!

I'll See You on the Other Side
The Jormun resurfaced to greet their old allies on July 8th, bringing with them the offer to explore the ocean floor alongside them. They're not the only old friend that's made a return, however. The kaleidoshells, placid, rainbow-tinted creatures reminiscent of sea turtles, have also made their way to Ensō's shores for their nesting season. For much of the month of July, you'll have to tread carefully around mounds of sand hiding delicate heaps of kaleidoshell eggs. Those of you uninterested in sea exploration can remain on the surface, if you like - the kaleidoshells can make for a stunning sight if you're glimpsing them for the first time as their shells throw off vibrant rainbow swirls of light reflected into the ocean waters.

Predators are always keen to feast on easy prey, and kaleidoshell eggs are no exception. If you feel like protecting them from any hungry slypers or pterax, you'll find that some of the Jormun are happy to stick on the surface with you and assist. They'll even lend you a schlacknorkcvic, which is the Jormun equivalent of a simple driftwood training staff, to help keep any thieving creatures away from the nests of kaleidoshell eggs - though they recommend that you do so peacefully, if possible.

Get Carried Away
Or you can brave the sea waters with the Jormun, instead. With the help of the sne'akleriad pendant, your new, aquatic shape will allow you to navigate the waters just as easily as they. Whether you intend to make use of this new skill to go roaming about and explore some of Ensō's uncharted ocean squares, take a look at that underwater structure that's been sighted before, or just have a joyous time beneath the waves with your new scaly, tentacled, flippered, or be-gilled form, the choice is yours.

Hopefully we'll find something useful. [Yukio swims over as well, peering in. It's dark in there, and Yukio feels like a beacon already. He's going to stand out too much.]

[flashover]

[Rin frowns] Man, I wish I had some sort of light... that didn't, you know. Boil the water...

[he swims into the mess hall area, where it opens up a little. He looks under some of the beaten up tables and chairs and other assorted garbage] Man, not even any pots and pans or anything...?

[reflash]

[Yukio is only almost a flashlight. He's mostly just bright enough to light things up if he's directly next to them, and he curls around rusted weapons and disintegrating armor in what used to be an armory, the blue glow from his spots casting weird shadows on the walls and--

There's something on the floor, and Yukio goes very still, watching the shadow of a hand stretch out towards him. The armory is too much of enclosed space, and he slips back into the mess hall in a whirl of fins and tail, throwing knife already summoned to his hand.]

Nii-san, there's something else in here. Stay alert.

[flashover]

[Thankfully, Rin's eyes have adjusted pretty well to the darkness -- thank you, bird eyes. Rin is still picking through the stuff (a broken syringe...? where did THAT come from?) when Yukio startles back out into the mess hall. Rin draws his sword, which glows with power and sizzles the water around it]

What is it?

[reflash]

I don't know. [Yukio's squinting back towards the guard room, trying to bring the blurry shapes into focus. Not having prescription goggles is freaking him out a little bit during this adventure, and he can't smell anything from the room other than rust and decay.]

I can't... sense anything unusual, ["sense", because he's relying on his tongue and the sudden addition of what must be a shark's electrosense rather than his blurry vision.] but I s-- I saw something.

[Or, he thinks he saw something. Maybe he's just being paranoid.]

[flashover]

[Maybe when he was younger... but the Yukio Rin knows now isn't one to jump at shadows. If he's scared, then there's something real there]

... Let me check it out.

[Rin swims past Yukio and peeks into the rusted armory. He holds the sword out like a light, still boiling the water around it.

Which is when he sees the shadowy hand slinking along the ocean floor]

...?! What the hell is that?!

[reflash]

What does it look like? I couldn't make it out. [Yukio adjusts his grip on the throwing knife, like it's going to be any use. He might just need to use his claws and martial arts training if this turns into a fight.

He catches something moving behind him, and swirls around to face it. The movements are unusual, a spindly shadow crawling across the floor towards Yukio. And another from his right, and two from his left.

When Yukio speaks again, he sounds calm, but serious.]

Nii-san, come here. We might need to leave.

[flashover]

They look like shadowy hands... But I don't see anything that could be casting a shadow.

[Rin strikes out at the nearest hand with his boiling sword and it retreats to the shadows. He then retreats, hovering around Yukio protectively]

... I think you're probably right. I've only found some weird garbage and all this rusted, useless armor.

[reflash]

I doubt they're protecting anything. [Yukio says, circling. A hand reaches out and clamps onto his tail.

It's like iron. Yukio hisses in pain and whips his tail away, flicks it quickly enough that it dislodges the hand, and curls up into a tighter spiral, grabbing at the... injury? It doesn't look injured, but the glowing spots have gone dark where the hand touched him, and it burns like being touched with iron.]

We need to get out now!

[flashover]

[oh that's. Hm. Rin doesn't like that!!!] R-right...! Make for the exit! [Rin pulls his flames back into himself, then releases it in a blast, focusing more on making light than heat, though he does ensure the energy goes around Yukio.

The fire burns brightly and boils the water, and the shadow hands retreat] Let's get back out to the sunlight...!

[reflash]

[Yukio doesn't need to be told twice, heading straight for the exit with just a second's delay to reorient himself after the flames burn through the water. It's still... so strange, to see that blue, to know whose fire it is, to not be burned.

The shadow hands recoil from the light, and then come back, grabbing at him as he darts toward safety, leaving dark handprints across the faint glow of of his skin, draining the bioluminescence out of the spots covering his shark tail. He shakes them off, scrapes a few particularity stubborn ones against walls until he's free.

He has to get out, to get up to the surface so he's not the brightest thing around.]

[flashover]

[Each hand that dares lay a... well, hand, on Yukio is greeted with a bite of flaming steel from Rin, who swims behind him. Water magic isn't his strong suit, but Rin manages to conjure a jetstream of sorts, putting the both of them on the fast track to the surface]

G...geez...!

[reflash]

[They get to the surface, break through into the sunlight, and the last of the shadows scuttle off into the depths of the ocean. Yukio's too busy trying not to whimper in pain, but everywhere those things touched has gone to burning pins and needles, and he doesn't know how to get it to stop.]
