JULY EVENT: RIDING THE WAVE

Who: Everyone!
What: The Jormun reappear to allow some transformative fun...and potentially some underwater exploration as well
When: July 10th and onward
Where: Ensō and the ocean floor around it
Warnings: Potential (and fully optional) body/transformation horror may arise when undergoing shifts from land-based to sea-based shapes, and vice versa. Otherwise, tag as you go!

I'll See You on the Other Side
The Jormun resurfaced to greet their old allies on July 8th, bringing with them the offer to explore the ocean floor alongside them. They're not the only old friend that's made a return, however. The kaleidoshells, placid, rainbow-tinted creatures reminiscent of sea turtles, have also made their way to Ensō's shores for their nesting season. For much of the month of July, you'll have to tread carefully around mounds of sand hiding delicate heaps of kaleidoshell eggs. Those of you uninterested in sea exploration can remain on the surface, if you like - the kaleidoshells can make for a stunning sight if you're glimpsing them for the first time as their shells throw off vibrant rainbow swirls of light reflected into the ocean waters.

Predators are always keen to feast on easy prey, and kaleidoshell eggs are no exception. If you feel like protecting them from any hungry slypers or pterax, you'll find that some of the Jormun are happy to stick on the surface with you and assist. They'll even lend you a schlacknorkcvic, which is the Jormun equivalent of a simple driftwood training staff, to help keep any thieving creatures away from the nests of kaleidoshell eggs - though they recommend that you do so peacefully, if possible.

Get Carried Away
Or you can brave the sea waters with the Jormun, instead. With the help of the sne'akleriad pendant, your new, aquatic shape will allow you to navigate the waters just as easily as they. Whether you intend to make use of this new skill to go roaming about and explore some of Ensō's uncharted ocean squares, take a look at that underwater structure that's been sighted before, or just have a joyous time beneath the waves with your new scaly, tentacled, flippered, or be-gilled form, the choice is yours.

"Version five, huh?" she says. "As for me, I'm pretty sure I'm the only version of me there is. But I've been installed in an organic body, not a robot like he's in. This is just a suit of armor."

Not denying that she's an AI, but being honest about the rest. Conversations like this make her miss her robot.

"Y..."

The propulsion in this new body operates by means of several pairs of small, shielded propellers set at intervals, and trying to hold himself in approximately the same place requires regular use of them to adjust. He completely forgets about this in his shock, and the flow of the ocean makes him lurch drunkenly to the left before recovering himself.

"You were installed in...I'm sorry, what?"

The obvious surprise on Horatio's part is a bit amusing, but Tex doesn't let her amusement show.

"I'm in a human body. I'd show you but I don't want to take my helmet off down here, for obvious reasons. And no, I don't know how they did it, in case you're wondering about that."

"I really should say that's either blasphemy or insanity, but there's an island covered in organic life and I'm a submersible now and you know what, sure, okay."

His voice has the slightly strained quality of one who would put his head in his hands if his current form had actual hands.

"It doesn't bother me too much, except when I push myself too hard because muscles need recovery time or some crap."

Or when she forgets to eat until she's super run-down. Or when she's super cranky from not sleeping enough. Or any number of things she does because taking care of an organic body is difficult for an AI that doesn't have an intuitive, life-long relationship with said body.

"Is that why they have to rest more often? I thought they just overheated easily. And ran low on energy more often. And...b'sod, it sounds complicated."

For all that organic life is miraculous, Horatio is himself quite happy with his usual frame of good, sensible materials like tin and iron. Though he might still envy the humans their mostly-sealed exterior just a little bit; he'll bet they don't get sand in their joints.

"That's what I've been told, yeah. Though running low on energy is part of it, too."

Tex gestures with her head then; they should keep making their way down to the underwater artifacts. She begins to walk along the sea floor.

"So what about you? Are you an AI?"

[sonsofhorus]

"If you'd asked me that a few months ago, I'd probably have thought that was insanity, too. I'd never even heard the word 'organic' then." Was it really only months? It feels like years have passed.

"But yeah. Yeah, I'm a machine. Though I'm usually shaped less like this and more like you. Less heavily armored, though."

[a_shadow]

That interests her; she turns her head to look at him.

"So you come from a world of machines?"

She had heard of such things before, but she didn't know much about how it worked.

[sonsofhorus]

"Yeah," he says again, quietly. He keeps his gaze on the waters ahead, and not only to avoid swimming into anything.

"I don't know what it's like where you live-" (especially if there are such mad things as AI being fitted with the flesh of Man) "-but where I come from, it's just us, old broken things, and sand."

"No space travel capabilities?"

She can't imagine living in a world comprised of machines and none of them can get off the planet.

[sonsofhorus]

"None. Maybe once. There was something called a starport, but all I know is it was repurposed for military rockets in ancient times. And that's probably been torn apart for scrap by now."

As worlds of machines go, it's not a great place to visit and you probably wouldn't want to live there.

"So there was some kind of apocalypse there? A catastrophe?"
