July Event: Riding the Wave

JULY EVENT: RIDING THE WAVE
Who: Everyone!
What: The Jormun reappear to allow some transformative fun...and potentially some underwater exploration as well
When: July 10th and onward
Where: Ensō and the ocean floor around it
Warnings: Potential (and fully optional) body/transformation horror may arise when undergoing shifts from land-based to sea-based shapes, and vice versa. Otherwise, tag as you go!

I'll See You on the Other Side
The Jormun resurfaced to greet their old allies on July 8th, bringing with them the offer to explore the ocean floor alongside them. They're not the only old friend that's made a return, however. The kaleidoshells, placid, rainbow-tinted creatures reminiscent of sea turtles, have also made their way to Ensō's shores for their nesting season. For much of the month of July, you'll have to tread carefully around mounds of sand hiding delicate heaps of kaleidoshell eggs.
Those of you uninterested in sea exploration can remain on the surface, if you like - the kaleidoshells can make for a stunning sight if you're glimpsing them for the first time as their shells throw off vibrant rainbow swirls of light reflected into the ocean waters.

Predators are always keen to feast on easy prey, and kaleidoshell eggs are no exception. If you feel like protecting them from any hungry slypers or pterax, you'll find that some of the Jormun are happy to stick on the surface with you and assist. They'll even lend you a schlacknorkcvic, which is the Jormun equivalent of a simple driftwood training staff, to help keep any thieving creatures away from the nests of kaleidoshell eggs - though they recommend that you do so peacefully, if possible.

Get Carried Away
Or you can brave the sea waters with the Jormun, instead. With the help of the sne'akleriad pendant, your new, aquatic shape will allow you to navigate the waters just as easily as they. Whether you intend to make use of this new skill to go roaming about and explore some of Ensō's uncharted ocean squares, take a look at that underwater structure that's been sighted before, or just have a joyous time beneath the waves with your new scaly, tentacled, flippered, or be-gilled form, the choice is yours.

A) Get your feet wet

[Honestly, Izuku's not entirely sure about this whole "morph into a sea creature" thing. It just seems like the sort of thing that could go really wrong, really easily. But there's a sunken city out there, and it could hold answers for getting home, so here he is. Standing in the ocean and putting on an "enchanted" Quirk-pendant.]

So, um, how fast does this woooOOHCRAP-

[-and immediately going face-first into the water.

This is his life. At least the Jormun keep his head up so he doesn't drown while growing gills, that'd be the most embarrassing way to go.

He's kind of glad he fell this way, admittedly; it's a lot easier to deal with the way the transformation feels when he isn't also watching it happen. At the end of it, he's an odd mix of fish and mammal, spine-riddled fins sprouting from green seal-patterned skin.

He carefully lifts the end of his tail from the water, staring in bafflement at the symmetrical pair of fins set on opposite sides of the tip. How does that work?!]

B) Sand and surf

[Izuku had always assumed that mermaids were supposed to have scales. The ningyo in some of the stories he heard as a kid did, at least, and Western mermaids didn't seem to look that different tail-wise. Yet he's still all skin. Weird, slippery, sorta rubbery skin, sure, but still just skin.

After some very concerned testing (read: holding one arm up out of the water very awkwardly and trying to not move) he at least knows it's not like dolphin or whale skin. Being dry is uncomfortable, and he gets really hot really fast, but it doesn't seem to be harmful. This is good, because as fit as he is he can only swim for so long before he gets tired, and he's not quite ready to stop practicing just yet.

So instead of coming ashore for a break, Izuku finds a rock sticking out of the water not far from where the kaleidoshell nests are and hauls himself onto it. It's close enough that he can watch for babies hatching and still out deep enough that he can dive right back in once he's done with his break. It's covered in loose sea grass, which actually doesn't feel as weird as he expected; the few clumps that end up washing over top of him even help him cool down.

This feels nice. Really, really nice. "Long soak in a warm bath" nice. He feels like he could even fall asleep like this...]

C) Attn Science: Invent Waterproof Paper Pls

[He thought it'd be a smart idea to bring something to carry back anything small enough to pile up. Swimming with something in his hands is next to impossible, and if they find more than one thing they shouldn't have to worry about needing to choose. Also, it'd just really, really suck if they got almost back to the surface and dropped something.

He hadn't considered that trying to find something he could swim with and carry things in would be so awkward.

After some failed experiments with his knapsack, Izuku has turned to his most trustworthy ally - extensive, niche research. Armed with the help of his new favorite book in the library, he manages to rig up the world's saddest homemade basket and some plant-cord straps. Now he's back on the beach and ready to test it.]

...please don't fall apart when you get wet.

"...aaaAAAH-!!!"

Someone or something cries out from a nearby tree, its leaves vigorously rustling as nine-and-a-bit-feet worth of lanky, bag-wearing humanoid suddenly falls from within the branches and hits the ground with a resounding thud, kicking up a dust cloud and sending the good doctor's limbs flailing about like a ragdoll.

"...damn it."

Capping off his curse with a frustrated huff, he systematically untangles his limbs with the kind of coordination a contortionist would kill for. Or at least, he would, but halfway through the process Faust notices he's currently performing for an audience.
For a moment, he just blankly stares back at the young man and his handicraft, before-

"Good afternoon, young man! It's a wonderful day to be out and about, is it not?"

...on the bright side, whatever grievances Faust had with this tree seem to have evaporated at the sight of a potentially familiar face. He's still not making any further attempts to unravel his limbs, though.
