I’ll take my throne, lay it on a mountain

Who: Our volunteer mountaineers
What: Two parties split up to scale the mountain from two sides, planning to meet at it’s peak. Shenanigans occur along the way.
When: September 13th to 16th
Where: Group 1: G3, H2, G2 || Group 2: F3, F2, G2
Warnings: Please note any warnings in your subject headers!

Word spreads quickly in a small community such as this. What was originally intended to be a small party turned into something much larger- and on the day Chara planned to leave for the mountain, it’s not one, but two parties that make off for it’s peak.

Group 1, led by Chara, moves off during the early hours of the morning, seeking to search the furthest part of the mountain by following the river upwards. The path is longer and more winding- however, they are unhampered in when they can travel.

Group 2, led by Ardyn, takes off after the sun has set- due to the needs of multiple members to avoid the sun’s harsh glare. Their route takes them up the closest side of the mountain, which provides an easier path- however, they may only travel whilst the sun is set.

OOC: Welcome to the mountaineering open post! Keep in mind the following;
♆ RNG was happily done blind by our wonderful Guzma mun, with our animals RNG'd by Wade Wilson's! Thank them both for all your misfortune.

♆ Prompts have been provided for each group below! Simply toplevel wherever you wish and treat this like a normal open post!

♆ Since each group will generally be in close contact with one another, consider asking others if you can threadjack here and there; nothing says team-building like being a nosy parker.

The lack of recognition on Newt's face isn't enough to tip him off on its own, but... well, it's not the first time he's had this experience, either. Understanding sets in immediately at those words, and Ginko's ears drop.

"...Oh. Yeah, that would explain the... lack of scales..." That last part is mumbled under his breath, like he knows how ridiculous it probably sounds. He looks away, rubbing sheepishly at his neck. "Sorry. About... that."

Yo, dude, he can see those ears drop; he's sitting right here. But he does turn though, scooching around on the floor so he can look up at Ginko more fully. "It's cool, dude, I've just never been on, uh, this side of the conversation before. You wanna tell me who you are and also maybe address that thing about scales, because if an alternate version of me has scales, I wanna know where that came from." He probably shouldn't be that interested in that, but let's be real, he absolutely 100% is--and in his enthusiasm, can't help but grin, warping the scars on his face as he reaches out to pat the floor in front of him. "C'mon--sit!"
onegreeneye: (haha yeah well)

Hey, if he could keep his own dumb added-on monster parts from giving away his emotions all the time and making other people feel bad in the process, he absolutely would. But here he is.

He... also isn't at all surprised to hear that Newt wants to hear about the scales situation. Of course he would, even if this is a different Newt.

Ginko only hesitates for a moment before sitting down, taking note of those scars but not really staring. Most people had some kind of scars in Ryslig, too; from here, Newt could probably see the jagged interruptions in the fur on Ginko's shoulders and back. He tucks his tail close to himself, wrapping it around his own feet.

"...Guess you're gonna need to hear some about where I was last for the scales thing to make any sense, huh."

Fuckin' Ryslig.

"Yeah, I think that'd help." The corner of Newt's mouth quirks a bit at that--before he's leaning in a bit with interest. "Is this place your original world or no?"
onegreeneye: (...)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2017-10-07 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Definitely not." No hesitation there. "Before Ryslig, I was in Japan-- from some time before when you're from, judging from... a few conversations.

"Ryslig was... well, kind of like here, people seemed to just be brought there every so often. But after about a month, they... uh, started changing." He combs his claws idly through the fur on his tail, staring down at it. "I was completely human when I first arrived."

Newt's eyes widen a bit behind his glasses--not at the mention of new people showing up, but: "Wait..so just being there changed your body physically? How long were you there?"
onegreeneye: (screwed that up pretty bad)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2017-10-12 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
"More or less. Or... something there changed us all. In a few different ways."

He doesn't know how else to bring up the fact that the changes weren't just physical. After some thought, he shifts incrementally away from Newt. The cravings aren't a problem now, sure, but he can't imagine that that's something Newt will want to hear from someone who's right next to him.

"Uh... about two years, I'd say."

It's still strange to think that it really is a question of how long he was there now. Past tense.

"...damn, dude. I mean, I know these places change you whether you like it or not--" And there's a sardonic twist to his mouth, briefly, as his hand unthinkingly comes up to scratch at the scar bisecting his cheek. "--but that's drastic. Especially if you were completely human when you arrived. Did everyone change the way did?"

“I’d say it was worse for some, actually… everyone was pretty much human when they arrived, but some people hadn’t been before. Seems like it was even tougher on some of them.” Something in his expression shifts, a little closer to outright sadness than it had been a moment before, but it doesn’t last long.

He shakes his head, and his tail flops against the ground. “Everyone changed within particular… patterns, you could say. Specific changes tended to go together, so once someone started, we could often predict what would happen to them from there. But they weren’t all the same. For example, the… you who I knew there ended up as what we started calling a merperson, whereas I’m, uh… a troll.”

There'd been a frown starting between Newt's eyebrows--a slight grimace at the mention of the place being tougher on some than others. Because yeah, these places are always tough, and this one sounds pretty high up there on the toughness scale. But when Ginko gets into what kind of changes people started to go through there, his eyes get a little round and wide behind his glasses. "A merperson?" He's leaning forward again, this time with interest. "What kind of changes happened to me--him--" ...wait. Newt shakes his head. "Shit, you know what I mean, though. Other Me. What happened?"
onegreeneye: ([troll]i will smoke as much as i want)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2017-10-29 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh... let's see." He pushes his hand through his hair - just on the right side, leaving the bangs over his left eye undisturbed.

"Gills, scales... legs turning into a tail in the water. Those were all pretty standard for mers. But, the, um... glowing marks, and the..." He gestures at his chin. "The split jaw was less common."
ohnehalfte: (19)

[personal profile] ohnehalfte 2017-11-05 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Newt can't help but wince slightly at the mention of a split jaw, and he can't help but rub his own jaw in sympathy. "Geez, what is with us and jaws?" But aside from that, the description is honestly fascinating. Especially that bit about glowing marks.

"Wait...glowing marks? Okay, so, wait, hold on--" Newt waves his hands out in front of him, as if to briefly pause the narrative. "I'm trying to visualize this. There was bioluminescence? Because that's seriously awesome. What color was it?"
onegreeneye: (that's okay)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2017-11-11 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Bad luck, maybe." Or the multiverse just has something against Newt's jaw. One of those.

Ginko tries and fails to hide a smile at Newt's enthusiasm. "It was blue - maybe closer to cyan. If I remember correctly, that meant something to him?"
ohnehalfte: (pic#11622374)

[personal profile] ohnehalfte 2017-11-15 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cyan?" That definitely has Newt's attention, especially if it meant something to Other Newt. "Hold on, wait, split jaw and cyan bioluminescence--" And suddenly, Newt's scrabbling at the dirt floor around them, flinging around for--"Aha!"--a small stick, which he holds out to Ginko. "Do you think you could maybe like...I dunno, sketch an approximation? Like in the floor or something? Because if it's what I think it is..." And he trails off, still leaning a bit forward, eyes wide and anticipatory because holy shit what if--
onegreeneye: that almost-a-bark sound they make ([troll]confused dog face)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2017-11-19 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh... sure, hang on." Ginko leans forward to scratch marks into the dirt, frowning in concentration as he tries to remember the details. He eventually sits back up, apparently satisfied. "He said something about being a 'kaiju', I think."

ohnehalfte: (6)

[personal profile] ohnehalfte 2017-12-10 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Newt stares at the drawing for a good thirty seconds.

"Holy shit." And then--a grin starts to spread over his face. "Holy fucking shit!" And then...he starts laughing. Not just a small laugh, no, but a loud, cackling laugh, clutching at his ribs, because it's honestly so perfect and so incredibly ironic that he just can't help it. "That--haha--that's perfect."

...Newt that's not a great thing to say. This, of course, doesn't occur to him--and he's still giggling and oh his sides hurt but at least his laughter is starting to calm. And he's rubbing a hand under his glasses wiping away tears. "Of course we--hehe--we turn into a damn kaiju!" And he's off giggling again, snorting in laughter.
onegreeneye: (haha yeah well)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2017-12-15 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, well, he didn't quite expect that. Though maybe he should have. Ginko rests his chin in one hand so he can hide his smile.

"The Fog God really did seem to have something of a sense of humor. ...A pretty sick one at times, but a sense of humor all the same."
ohnehalfte: (11)

[personal profile] ohnehalfte 2017-12-27 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It takes a moment, but Newt manages to pull himself together, rubbing at his eyes as he sits up. "Fog God? S--haha--s'that the god of that place?"

"One of them. The one who made us, uh... like this." He taps a claw against one of the pale green stones growing from his shoulder.
