I’ll take my throne, lay it on a mountain

Who: Our volunteer mountaineers
What: Two parties split up to scale the mountain from two sides, planning to meet at it’s peak. Shenanigans occur along the way.
When: September 13th to 16th
Where: Group 1: G3, H2, G2 || Group 2: F3, F2, G2

Word spreads quickly in a small community such as this. What was originally intended to be a small party turned into something much larger- and on the day Chara planned to leave for the mountain, it’s not one, but two parties that make off for it’s peak.

Group 1, led by Chara, moves off during the early hours of the morning, seeking to search the furthest part of the mountain by following the river upwards. The path is longer and more winding- however, they are unhampered in when they can travel.

Group 2, led by Ardyn, takes off after the sun has set- due to the needs of multiple members to avoid the sun’s harsh glare. Their route takes them up the closest side of the mountain, which provides an easier path- however, they may only travel whilst the sun is set.

Planning a very large omelet, or are you intending to hatch them?

Oh, I'm definitely intending to hatch them. [Newt glances up at Muffet, grinning] If they survive the trek down, anyway. If not, we at least know where their nesting grounds are, so we could always get more.

Hm... I'm trying to remember what I've seen on this island so far that might lay eggs. I know there are those little crab-like things all over the beach, but they're probably a bit small for these.

Perhaps it's those feathered lizards? Then again, for all I know about this place, it could be those dogs with all the extra legs. Or something else entirely.

They're those creatures that look like archaeopteryx! We founding a nesting ground of theirs on our way up, so I grabbed a couple eggs, partially to see if they're edible, but also to see if it's possible to raise a couple. [HE IS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS] Having a trained pet like that could be really really useful!

Well, that's a lucky find.

[She giggles at the thought.]

Just be careful to make sure the training works properly- I've seen them steal small objects before, they might end up being quite a handful.

Eh, I'm okay with that! [the corner of Newt's mouth quirks, conspiratorially] That just means they're smart.

Just make sure they don't outsmart you, then. I'd hate to see you cheated out of house and home- especially since we've only just found these buildings.

[Newt wrinkles his nose a bit at that, and glances back down at the eggs] ....maybe just hatching one would be better.

[Muffet nods solemnly, managing to suppress her amused smile.]

That would probably be the more sensible choice.

[ohnehalfte]

[Newt hums at that, eyeing the eggs] So...I guess we make an omelette with the rest of them? I dunno, I also don't want to risk the one I take not hatching, y'know?

Yes, no sense in wasting resources. My advice would be to wait until one of them hatches, then cook the rest.

...Preferably not in front of the new hatchling, I should add. It might frighten the poor thing.

[She's not entirely serious about that- if she thought pteraxes were intelligent enough to be bothered by this stuff, she wouldn't suggest eating them in the first place.]

[the corner of Newt's mouth quirks at that] I mean, honestly, I think they're scavengers at best, so they probably wouldn't mind a bite of egg themselves.

Well, just so long as you teach them not to trying taking a chunk out of you- or anyone else who happens to be standing close by.

Oh, yeah, definitely. I don't want them thinking I'm food--only what I say is OK to eat, y'know? I don't want them eating something their not supposed to and getting sick, either.

Mm. The good news there is that you can probably get a decent idea of their diet from watching the wild ones, at least in terms of what they can stomach.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. From what I can tell so far, they're scavengers, so I think they might be omnivorous. But once I can get a better look at their teeth, I'll be able to tell. And also, y'know, trial and error.

"Trial and error" seems to be the main way of figuring out anything on this island.

You're not kidding. [Newt huffs, sitting back for a moment, leaning back on his hands] We don't even have a network or something to communicate with.

Ah, the things I would do for access to the Undernet, by now. What a shame no one saw fit to bring Dr. Alphys along with us...

[Where's a nerd lizard when you need her, jeez.]

Come to think of it, I wonder if you could train your pet to carry letters to people? Like a rather more carnivorous messenger pigeon.

[Newt perks a bit, definitely catching onto that name] You know Alphys also? [...wait. And then he laughs and shakes his head] Never mind, yeah, of course, same world and all that.

But I like the messenger pigeon idea...I mean, if I had any paper to write with.

[Muffet blinks in brief surprise.]

Yes, most people from the Underground do- after all, she was the Royal Scientist, the position automatically makes one a bit of a public figure. Did Sans mention her, when you met before...?

[Or are there even more people from home out there somewhere in the universe than she thought.]

I mean, yeah, but also he introduced her to us when she showed up in Hadriel. She's great! We worked in the lab together for a bit.

Ah, that would be the place you were before this one? I'd no idea that so many people I knew had been through this sort of thing...

[It also means further confirmation that time is weird with these places- fired or not, Alphys is still a public figure by virtue of her former job, even more than a social, friendly person like Sans. If she'd gone missing for longer than a day, at most, people would have noticed.]

But yes, I've no doubt she was quite skilled.

Yeah, you meet almost everyone in these places at some point or another. But yeah, she definitely was. [Newt idly traces a finger over one of the eggs, chest going tight at the reminder of that lab for reasons that honestly have absolutely nothing to do with Alphys.]

Uh, anyway--[he glances up at Muffet] I know what our trip up the mountain was like--how'd yours go?

Well, a plant tried to eat us. So I suppose it could have gone better.

[Muffet's tone is calm and matter-of-fact, keeping a perfectly straight face as she answers. Because, really, who hasn't had to fight the occasional carnivorous plant?]
