[OPEN] Faust & Co.'s Healthcare Emporium
Who: Doctor Faust (
wanderingdoctorfaust) and anybody curious enough to visit!
What: The clinic and infirmary building has been completed! Anybody feel like playing doctor?
When: May
Where: The Ensō Clinic & Infirmary (located on square B6)
Warnings: Doctors pretending to be professional (please mark your content warnings!)
It's finished.
After several months worth of back-breaking labour, uncooperative furniture and even island-wide ageing shenanigans at one point, The Ensō Clinic & Infirmary can finally be deemed adequate for its intended purposes - or at least, as adequate as it can be with the resources currently available. Still, some people may yet avoid dying horribly, and that's what matters most!
Faust, for one, couldn't be more proud of everyone who helped out, even if he tried. He's currently standing outside the building proper, positively beaming at the results of the volunteer teams combined effort. Perhaps, once he's convinced himself nobody else is watching, he'll even allow himself to remove the bag - but only for a moment. There's work to be done, and he practically throws himself through the front door in order to get ready for his first day on the job.
The doctor will see you now! Whether you're here to work, here to be treated or you're just dropping in for a chat, you can find him seated in reception ready and waiting to take your appointment!

But apparently today he gets to meet his... coworker? Yukio's been assuming that he'd be picking up the same sort of medic role he held in the Carnival, but that's always up to negotiation. Especially because he has no idea what kind of people he'll be working with here. The kind of people who spend their days sitting behind a desk and wearing paper bags on their heads, apparently.]
Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize anyone was here. [The teen says, shutting the door behind him as he takes in the sight in front of him. He smiles, polite.]
Are you... the doctor?
no subject
The 'deputy' is kept out of respect for the former director, as opposed to actually being correct terminology. It's a long story.
"To whom to I owe the pleasure, young man?"
He leans over the desk and extends a hand out, easily reaching all the way over to the new patient despite the distance between them. Sorry to say Yukio, but everything you've heard about Faust is true - towering, paper bag-adorned form and all. It doesn't even look like he's particularly strained from reaching halfway across the room in a still-seated position.
Oh, and there's also a miniature clone of him that's giving you the stink-eye from the desk. Welcome to the clinic!
no subject
"I worked as a medic where I was before this, so I thought I might be able to help here."
no subject
And about a thousand other less friendly faces. Forgive him if he starts acting a bit cautious.
"A former medic, you say? We'd be delighted to have you on board! However, protocol does dictate that I have to ask you a few questions first, if you wouldn't mind? My office is just in the next room!"
Technically, the 'protocol' in question doesn't actually exist, but Faust wants to make sure this young man(?) knows his way around the human body. Or monster body, for that matter.
Meanwhile, Mini-Faust's glare only deepens. They point to their eyehole and then to Yukio's own eyes, before making a slicing motion across their tiny neck.
no subject
"I'm afraid your... assistant doesn't seem to like me much already. I hope that won't cause too many problems."
no subject
Faust emphasises his deduction by pointing to the tiny doctor on the desk, who has gone from giving implied death threats to idly sitting on its backside, kicking its tiny feet and tapping their fingers. When they 'realise' their superior is directly addressing them, they turn and give a friendly wave.
"I apologise on their behalf - Mini is an extension of my soul, a familiar of sorts, but can be...difficult with people. Please notify me if they are bothering you during your stay, and I will remove them from the premises posthaste! In the meantime, though..."
Getting down to business, the good doctor motions to lead Yukio into the office proper - a tiny and dull room sparsely decorated beyond a desk, two crudely-made chairs, and some shelves. Faust himself has to perform some worryingly contortionist-esque techniques in order to get to his side of the desk, only partially hindered by his unique physique.
no subject
"I'm not a doctor, but I'll do my best to answer any questions you might have."
no subject
A series of informal questions follows, mostly pertaining to a vague outline of Yukio's history and experiences as a medic as well as any other abilities he may have that could assist in healing - including those that could be classed as 'magical' or 'spiritual'.
He won't ask for specific details out of respect for the young man's privacy, but won't refuse them either: Tell him as little or as much as you want!
no subject
When it comes to magical abilities, Yukio admits he's still learning, but he has developed two spells that work consistently, one that speeds up healing slightly, and one that sterilizes nonporous work surfaces.
Yukio is a confident, articulate person who is straightfoward about his experience, training, and competencies. He'll answer any of Faust's questions in a clear, polite way, not hiding anything.

Hello? [Connor shifts the growler he's carrying so it's settled on his hip instead of in his arms.] Anybody home?
no subject
Faust waves energetically in the young man's direction, though his miniature familiar takes to eyeing the newcomer with deep suspicion instead. The good doctor is currently seated behind the front desk with a medical textbook open in front of him, though it's quickly closed and moved out of sight as Faust sits straighter, embodying his own patented method of a professional appearance. Not that he isn't a professional! Sometimes new patients see the bag and immediately get the wrong idea, that's all!
no subject
"Clinic? Oh, hey I have something for you then." Connor uses his free hand to dig through the messenger bag slung across his body pulling out a bottle of something. The bottle is labelled nail polish. The contents are definitely not that. "Here. It's a sedative."
Why is he just carrying this around on his person? It just be like that here on Ensō. Sometimes you just carry around sedative on your person because you have trouble sleeping.
no subject
Regardless, the eyehole shoots back open, and Faust politely declines the offer the best way he knows how:
"Ah, no thank you, I've already got a drink!"
And to prove his point, he reaches into his coat and inexplicably produces an entire wooden cup, steam rising from the rim.
"It's green tea. Good for the soul."
And now, to process this disreputable youth's response!
no subject
Curious, he stepped inside, looking around to see what it even was.
no subject
"Good evening! Welcome to the new and improved Ensō Clinic and Infirmary! Are you a patient, or are you looking for work?"
He punctuates his greeting with an enthusiastic wave, stepping out from behind the desk proper and approaching the visitor for a handshake - and subsequently revealing just how tall he really is in the process. Unfortunately, the good doctor remains oblivious to how potentially intimidating this might be for someone unused to his...unique proportions.
Also: There's a miniature creature sitting on his shoulder, trying to ram a coconut cookie into its non-existent mouth. Because of course there is.
no subject
The shoulder creature gets a glance, a blink, then a warmer smile. And down by Tachibana's feet, a small gasp from his own small mascot creature, who's looking up both in surprise at another pog-like creature, and a little bit of jealousy of that cookie.
no subject
"That's quite the résumé! We're very likely going to be dealing with a lot more than stomachaches and insomnia in this place, and so far our staff is almost exclusively healers - not researchers. And right now, I'm more than happy to take on people who can learn how to retaliate against any of the foreign sicknesses or poisons we may be facing in the future! I would be honoured to have you on board, mister...?"
...in all the excitement, he's completely forgotten to do basic introductions. Panicking, the good doctor immediately steps back, standing as ramrod straight as he can despite his head pressing against the ceiling, and gives a polite bow.
"Ah, where on earth are my manners today...? My name is Faust, I'm the deputy medical director here. To whom do I owe the pleasure, good sir?"
...aaaaand now he's just being extremely stilted instead. On his shoulder, Mini has abandoned their confectionery in favour of cringing and facepalming at their superiors actions...and in the process, forgetting they are now seated upon an angled surface. The cookie slips and falls, shattering into pieces like a dropped glass against the floor - drawing Mini's attention and setting them scrambling to the edge, mournfully reaching for their fallen snack.
no subject
Tachibana returned the bow with one of his own, almost on reflex. "Sakuya Tachibana, Senior Researcher at BOARD," he introduced with a small touch of formality to match Faust's own.
"I've picked up a healing ability, as well as extensive knowledge of herbal medicines on my Travels so far, but long term solutions are my area of speciality," he continued, formality dropping slightly as his tone warmed. "One of my company's main projects back home was developing DNA-based treatments for terminal or incurable illnesses, and a college and I were able to identify, cure, and vaccinate against a plague that was devastating the local population of a world that we visited before I arrived here."
It felt a little like boasting. And in a way, it sort of was, but the importance of his and Lyall's work had been a lifeline for both that world, and for his own wellbeing.
no subject
...well, let's just say it was a very long time ago.
"...good grief, Tachibana, I'm starting to think you may be just the slightest tinge too overqualified to work here!"
The good doctor laughs in good humour, joyous if not slightly overwhelmed by the sheer weight of this young man's achievements - and he hardly looks any older than his mid-twenties! Could he be standing in the presence of another medical prodigy, perhaps not unlike himself?
no subject
and likely would onward thanks to that whole immortality thingand also had the advantage of gaining memories and skills from other lives.Still, Tachibana couldn't help but chuckle slightly. "I was told similar last time I was trying to get an internship," he joked lightly. "Lab work and direct patient experience are two rather different things and other than running a few drug trails, I don't have too much of the latter yet."
no subject
The good doctor's subsequent chuckling catches Mini off guard, his bouncing shoulders knocking them off their footing and sending them hurtling towards the ground - landing headfirst into the remnants of the lost confectionery with a surprisingly gentle thump.
"-oh, oh dear, let me just...?"
Faust bends down to pick up his fallen comrade...and then immediately freezes up when he comes face-to-face with a second miniature creature. His confusion ends up being further mirrored by Mini, pushing themselves back up only to join in with the impromptu gawking. What on earth...?
no subject
"This is Garren," Tachibana introduced, unable to help the smile that always came to his face when referring to his companion. "He's my Partner who came Traveling with me, after we visited his world," he explained.
Garren nodded emphatically, outlining the diamond shape on chest plate of his armor before holding it outward towards Tachibana, tilting his head happily and again making the pleased "Heeee" noise.
no subject
Greetings.

"Legion!"
The good doctor practically launches himself out of his chair, immediately closing the distance between him and his synthetic acquaintance. Whilst he has seen them around, the last time they properly spoke was...
The Cahypdo expedition. The good doctor still remembers how jittery he was in the aftermath of their 'discovery', lasting long after the partying began. It only got worse when he and Connor joined Legion for a second expedition, over two months after the original.
Let it be known that Faust has no preference towards the Wabbits nor the Beowulves native to that island, for in his professional opinion, they are both equally horrible creatures. Cahypdo in general was far from a pleasant experience, so much so in fact that-
-oh, right. Legion's here.
"-ah, it's...it's good to see you again, Legion! How are you faring?"
no subject
Their head tilts to the side.)
You are experiencing difficulties?
no subject
Or is it, he thinks, as images of Legion's lifeless body return to his mind unbidden.
"Well, uh...the last time I saw you, Legion you were...inactive. But I'm over the moon to see that you're up and running again! We should, ah..."
Celebrate? Talk about this? Change the topic? The good doctor is no stranger to the scars of the mind, but synthetics...he has no idea what to say or do. Would Legion rather they not talk about this? Is Legion here to talk about Faust's own condition instead? Do they just wish to socialise - do they even feel the desire to socialise like organics do?
...Faust makes a mental note to requisition some aspirin. He's going to need it in the near future.
no subject
(Sort of like someone fainting because they didn't eat enough, though why this would occur is not necessarily immediately apparent. Any reason an organic might have to deprive themselves is unlikely to apply.)
We apologize for any distress we have caused.
probably backdated to when it was STILL MAY
"Hey! You guys really got this place well put-together, huh."
no subject
"Oh, absolutely! Everyone has done a fantastic job with this place, I couldn't be prouder of them! My only regret is that I could not have done more myself - I swear, the moment I even think about doing some manual labour, one of my muscles just HAS to go and pull itself! You'd think I was having an allergic reaction to all the elbow grease going around!"
Maybe it's not the funniest of his jokes, but he chuckles nonetheless - complaining about his bodily aches? Since when did he ever act his own age?
"Oh well, I'm certainly not getting any younger! What can I do for you, young Ginko?"
no subject
Which is a nice change of pace, frankly.
"Actually, I wanted to ask if there's anything I can do for you. I know I'm not an actual doctor, but I do have some medical knowledge, and if there's work to be done around here I'd be glad to help out."
