The library is finally getting some renovations! Between some new bookshelves (hope someone here is good at hauling) and a veritable cascade of all sorts of books and supplies, an awful lot needs to be transferred from the Temple to the heretofore unused library, and any help anyone has to offer is much appreciated!

But, of course, there's also so very much to go through for your own perusal. Just look at all this! Coloring books, puzzle books, stories of all sorts, comic books, fashion magazines, all sorts of survival texts...you name it.

This all needs to be put away and stored in those neat little waterproofing book protectors - shelves need to be moved, supplies need to be secured, and someone should probably take inventory. But also...there's a lot of fresh new reading material on an island that previously had none.

Isn't that worth looking over?

[She's looking over what they're doing, trying to recognize the space, and tilts her head.]

So how many islands have you been to?

[She's trying to tally over the ones she's been to in her head. If Enso counts, Nudian appeared right when she arrived, there was that robot place no one wanted to go to for some reason then too, then bird hell and the weird double sided jungle and desert place. Man, she should've been paying more attention.]

[She ticks off the options she'd gone through in her mind with a drum of her fingers. Counting Mu as it's own thing adds to her count, but with Enso she only knows six. That's some gaps, for sure. But she knows what she's really curious about, seeing as while they spoke about this in the past, there wasn't much info at the time.]

What about that fire place? Inside the temple. One that almost killed us and you ran into a door.

[She squints a bit as she thinks, trying to put that together in her head.]

Oh. Huh. Was that a place once? Did you include it in your number?

[Just trying to keep her ideas straight. Helps to know where you're going.]

[They were only there once, and that was back in February. They were not as unfortunate as those who suffered for their intrusions, though they witnessed the consequences of those firsthand.]

[She would, too. There's too many unknowns. She still hasn't directly asked anything of the Storyteller aside from a bartering of favors, but maybe she can trade stories for information, too.]

Maybe we can go back with a spell or something. So we can breathe this time. I wanna know what was up there.

[Better they know before it comes back again and people die.]

[The Drifter certainly isn't about to undermine the local god's authority to attempt to go somewhere they didn't want anyone to be going to - not without permission.]

[Her face shifts into a little :/, because she was totally about to undermine authority to get what she wants. There are very few times she hasn't done that.]

You think they'll let us go? Maybe they wanna know what's up there too.

[The Drifter considers this. They've not spoken to the Storyteller directly, not really. They are more accustomed to gods approaching them when they require something, and not the other way around. The Drifter would not sully a god with their presence unless it is requested.]

[She quirks an eyebrow at them, and because she often choses to be completely unsubtle with people she likes, she just talks.]

Are you afraid of 'em? They said it's fine to talk whenever, right?

[It's straightforward, at least.]

[To call them afraid of them...it is not conventional fear. It is not a fear, like that of an enemy. It is a fear that they associate with divinity - the kind that means reverence.]

[Beau is struggling for a time she's given dignity and respect to literally anyone. She's seen the asshole moves people in power run, the way they swear because they're in control they should be beloved. She hates it. Anyone who wants her respect will earn it through blood or not at all.

But she can try to see their point of view. Try, at least.]

Okay, I'll ask. I won't say its from you, they can be mad at me if they are.

[The Drifter doesn't exactly frown, but their eyes narrow very slightly, and they fix her with a look.]

[Such a thing is distinctly anathema in their mindset, considering that gods should not be insulted or challenged at all, in their experience. But others, they have learned, have different ideals.]

[There is no guarantee that those ideals will not influence everyone else's.]

[Just because it's a reasonable request considering her past behavior doesn't mean Beau doesn't look a little insulted at that.]

I'm perfectly good at not being a dick to people in power I wanna work with.

[A narrow description, but a true one.]

Doesn't help anybody to be pissed off at 'em. I'm not a bully.

[Apparently assured of this, the Drifter nods. Fine, then. You do your thing, Beau. They are apparently fine with trusting that you're not about to make things exponentially worse.]

[Good, because she totally has this. Or at least, she has this now. The her that met them last year maybe couldn't have handled it, but she's done a lot of growing. She spoke to the Plank King and bartered the lives of all of her friends to stop their assassination. She spoke to the wizard and got them access to the circle. There's things she can do-- she just needs to tap into that, and she'll be fine.]

Seriously, I got this. I'll find a good time and everything.

[And in the meantime, there's other stuff she wants to hash out with them anyway.]

For now though I wanna see some of these maps. Brush up on how these things work. Can I hang?

[So...yes, obviously, though perhaps her uncertainty regarding her placement here is obvious enough for the question to be more understandable. Either way, the Drifter isn't the sort to ask - even if their curiosity is roused in earnest.]

[They seldom ask anything, assuming that, should vital information need to be imparted, it will be.]

[And she'll find some space nearby to look over their more completed maps, and start taking her own notes. Important to be prepared, after all.]

[They don't entirely know what she means by that, though of course, they don't ask clarification. They merely blink at her, and nod. She doesn't need to "dip" - she is welcome, as everyone is, as they were certain to say so.]

[But they're not about to tell her to leave, of course.]
