i'm looking for an easy thing [ OPEN MINGLE ]

Who: Anyone and everyone! Who wants to look at books?
What: BOOKVALANCHE
When: Let's say from the 25th and onward for simplicity
Where: The Storyteller's Temple, in addition to the library that's finally getting some much-needed attention
Warnings: Mark anything that comes up!

The library is finally getting some renovations! Between some new bookshelves (hope someone here is good at hauling) and a veritable cascade of all sorts of books and supplies, an awful lot needs to be transferred from the Temple to the heretofore unused library, and any help anyone has to offer is much appreciated!

But, of course, there's also so very much to go through for your own perusal. Just look at all this! Coloring books, puzzle books, stories of all sorts, comic books, fashion magazines, all sorts of survival texts...you name it.

This all needs to be put away and stored in those neat little waterproofing book protectors - shelves need to be moved, supplies need to be secured, and someone should probably take inventory. But also...there's a lot of fresh new reading material on an island that previously had none.

Isn't that worth looking over?

As much as Ginko would like to get right into looking at those new books, he knows he should... probably actually make himself useful. So he's gotten to work, moving shelves and supplies into place with intent focus.

...Mostly, anyway. As relieved as he is to have one more thing available to put his focus into, Ginko can't keep to one activity forever; now and then, he can by found sitting aside somewhere, flipping through a book, usually something informational. He'll make sure to get it right into a protector when he's done.

That's fine, but he's taken a seat to read his book precisely where Yasha means to put the shelf she has hoisted over her shoulder. It isn't heavy or anything, but it is the last one and she's looking forward to having a little thumb through the books before she leaves, so...

She clears her throat.

"Excuse me. I need to put this down."

Given that he's in a public space, Ginko should probably be paying a little more attention to where he's sitting, and if someone might need to walk there.

Then again, whether Ginko should be doing something has very rarely influenced whether he actually does do it.

He does, at least, notice when she speaks up, and glances upward with his ears flicking forward a little in response. "--Oh! Sorry about that." He jumps up to scoot out of the way, making sure to... not get crushed by a bookcase. "Hope I didn't leave you standing there too long."

"It's okay." Yasha could have stood there for longer, but she's glad to have been relieved of the shelf now. She slots it into place against the one next door and shifts it a little until it's straight and level. Now they can put more of the books onto it. This person she has interrupted has been reading something too, which she squints to look at, trying to make sense of the cover.

"Is that book from this library? Or is it yours?"

Ginko holds the book up so she can get a better look; at a glance, it seems to have something to do with wild plants, the cover marked with the leaves of a few different species.

"It's from here. We got a few on wilderness survival - this one seems focused on uses for wild plant life." He sounds pretty excited about this, honestly; after all, he had wandered into reading this out of curiosity, not any desire to avoid work.

Oh, she's actually very interested in this subject. Yasha looks abruptly curious.

"We have more like that?" She didn't notice, she hasn't been paying much attention to the books yet... honestly, she's not all that big on reading. Reading has never really occurred to Yasha before. "You... can get books about plants?"

He brightens up a little further, just at getting an interested response. "Absolutely. I don't know how many are here, since we mostly talked about getting books on survival, in general - but, if all else fails, we could always ask for more on plants, specifically. It's bound to be useful around here."

"I would like that. I would read books on plants, if we had more."

What do people write about, when they write about plants? Maybe they draw them, or put in pictures. Maybe they talk about where they came from, or how to grow your own. "I'm trying to start a garden, back where I'm staying, but it's hard. Are there books that help with something like that?"

"There should be - they certainly exist, at least, whether we've got them here yet or not." He tucks the book under his arm and stands up, looking around to try and remember if he's seen anything along those lines. "If we didn't get any this time around, there will always be chances to ask for some later."

He hopes, though, that that'll qualify as survival books and there will be some already. That would be simplest.

"I'll have a better look once everything is in place."

There are... a lot of books around, right now. Most people going through the various piles are slipping them into little plastic covers, so it would probably be annoying to try and rifle through them now.

"... I've never really been to a library before," she confesses after a moment's hesitation. "So this is exciting."
