i'm looking for an easy thing [ OPEN MINGLE ]
Who: Anyone and everyone! Who wants to look at books?
What: BOOKVALANCHE
When: Let's say from the 25th and onward for simplicity
Where: The Storyteller's Temple, in addition to the library that's finally getting some much-needed attention
Warnings: Mark anything that comes up!
The library is finally getting some renovations! Between some new bookshelves (hope someone here is good at hauling) and a veritable cascade of all sorts of books and supplies, an awful lot needs to be transferred from the Temple to the heretofore unused library, and any help anyone has to offer is much appreciated!
But, of course, there's also so very much to go through for your own perusal. Just look at all this! Coloring books, puzzle books, stories of all sorts, comic books, fashion magazines, all sorts of survival texts...you name it.
This all needs to be put away and stored in those neat little waterproofing book protectors - shelves need to be moved, supplies need to be secured, and someone should probably take inventory. But also...there's a lot of fresh new reading material on an island that previously had none.
Isn't that worth looking over?

[They don't recognize her, they don't think, but an unfortunate side effect of being rather unfamiliar with humans as a whole means that many of them still look more or less the same, interchangeable except by the colors of their hair and the tones of their voice.]
[But she speaks as though she does not know them, and so they can answer in turn.]
it is all right
[They are nothing if not direct.]

[ She'd thought for a moment that perhaps they were writing a letter. Silly, of course, when there doesn't seem to be any kind of postal service on these islands, but maybe she's just longing for something familiar amidst all this unfamiliarity.
But now they're talking, she can get a peep at what they've been doing and – well, that's certainly not a letter. ]
You have been creating maps?

keep them on my companion
[Their sprite chirps again, flickers its display over to the map seemingly mounted in the empty air. Even with the pink, slightly translucent backdrop, the landscape is apparent. The Drifter's system of labeling, which seems to be composed of various rhomboids without any accompanying text, is less so.]
should be shared
no subject
Yes, I agree. It would be very beneficial to the islanders at large.
[ But still, that's a lot of work for one person. She looks back at the map for a moment, clearly thinking, before turning her gaze back to the Drifter. ]
Do you require any assistance?
no subject
wish to help?
[If nothing else, it will be useful to know another party's mapmaking capacity, and how adept she might be with the pen.]
no subject
[ It's not letter writing, and she's not as good with a pen as she is with a typewriter, but as long as she's not having to write tight lines of script, Violet's fairly sure she can get the hang of it. And it's something... productive to do. She's been feeling a little antsy without any work. ]
I've had some training in cartography previously, so I have some experience that may be useful/
no subject
[Someone with genuine training, though.]
[The Drifter straightens, leaning forward slightly.]
would be very useful

[ She'll have to water some of it down a bit – she doesn't think the residents of the islands need the full Leidenschaftlich military cartography experience but she's reasonably sure she can make it work. ]
I will need some time to practice before I am fully confident with a pen and paper, but once I am able, I will readily offer my assistance.

[Their head goes to one side. They've met some who cannot read, but it is often due to some sort of interference - being blind would rob one of that capacity, unless aided by some other means.]
["Fully confident" is a strange way of putting it. Is it an inability that arrests her?]
