Down in that Darkness
This log is primarily for the Shadow and Light portions of the event, for ease and convenience. Your Shadow can be either the Persona-inspired sort - a "brutal, bitterly honest recreation of a character's worst flaws, darkest fears, and deepest secrets" - or the edgier, more laughable variant. The Lights, on the other hand, will do their utmost to convince their real selves of their best qualities, no matter how little they want to hear them.
Remember that the Shadows will be present from January 21st to January 23rd, and the Lights will be present from January 25th to January 28th.
On January 25th, we will post a separate log for Rejection Rooms!

Event Timeline

[ Without seeing what Shion is capable of, Nezumi finds the threat funny and laughs in kind as he heads back toward the market.
It dies off quickly when he realizes the change in tone. ]
Shion, don't be ridiculous. I don't have the time to hold you away from somebody like a yappy dog.

Technically Shion has killed to avenge a Nezumi who wasn't even real but the shadow is not super into technicalities right now.]

Ah. An animal. It would still be surprising, but there was no way Shion has taken a human life. ]

They chained me to a wall and stabbed you, every crime I ever committed, every mistake I ever made. Every single one they listed and they drove a dagger into your flesh until they died and then they brought you back and started all over again.
[The shadow barely looks like Shion at all now, his face twisted in anger and horror.] For eight days, chained up too far to reach you. When they ran out of crimes they started on the questions. Every topic that that city did not prepare me for. Books that I'd never heard of, music, art. And every wrong answer caused you more pain.
[He's not a child. Once he had been, pathetic, naive. But he had learned Nezumi's truth, suffering was part of real life and though he might still be pathetic, still wasn't good enough for Nezumi.] I killed them. Afterwards. Not very well. They killed me back.
But I saw, in the future. We go to the correctional facility, they shoot you. Hurt you and I kill for you again. Shot him in the leg and then the head. No one is allowed to hurt you Nezumi. I won't let them.

[ More than being dragged to a new world, these words shake Nezumi. Normally, showing surprise is considered a sign of weakness, and Nezumi doesn't allow it. Now, the wide pupils and slightly agape mouth are out of his hands. None of this happened. It isn't that he can't imagine himself being tortured -- he's experienced too much to think anyone safe. But. ]
Stop. [ That isn't how Shion should look. The shadow wanted to see this real, twisted version, wanted to see a break in the perfect facade. The real Nezumi feels a pain in his chest. If this is true, Nezumi fails Shion. Letting him loose in the Western District, he still trailed behind, the hunter instead of the hunted, ready to step in should Shion really get in over his head. ] That's ridiculous. You're not capable of killing someone for any reason.
[ And I'll make sure you won't have to. ]

[This indeed is not the innocent Shion that Nezumi knows, this Shion is being completely serious. Keeping Nezumi safe from harm is the most important thing.
This Shion is determined to prove himself to be everything he thinks Nezumi wants him to be. Strong, brutal, capable of living in the real world. No longer the soft, spoiled child that Nezumi saved.
Capable of killing for what he believes in. His friends, Nezumi. He will keep them all safe no matter the cost.]
