[Five days of work, a small herd of children, and one idiot camping out under the stars. Goodness knows how he managed to organize all this.]

[Okay, so the thing is she has no idea what she's doing? It's not like it took much, or any, coercion to get her out here and play with corn and yet, nani the heck. It's less yellow than she expected unshucked-the outer coating is throwing her off and she points that out like she's made a grand discovery.]

Can you eat the green part? Does that taste good?

[Ed doesn't have much more of an idea of what to do than Ren does, quite frankly. He does, at least, know what unharvested corn is like, but as for how edible the husks are...]

Uh...I don't think so? Not raw, at least. [He reaches up to break one of them off to inspect, but it takes a bit more muscle to get it off than he expected.]

No the husk isn't edible though it can be used in cooking to flavour things. [Says the plant nerd who has come up behind them. They are quite difficult to get off the plant but he has found twisting them slightly helps a little. He uses his knife to help get the husk off one of the ears of corn and passed it over to Ren with a smile.]

The corn can be eaten raw though.

[He offers the dagger to Ed, in case he needs help with that husk.]

[Make that yet another participant who doesn't really know how to do this! Ray watches Shion, since he seems to be more confident, and tries to imitate his twisting technique.]

Is it any good raw?

[He's shaking his head, if anyone happens to be watching. No, no, please don't start eating the corn raw. Especially you, Ren. Sheesh.

(He is so done with being voiceless and having to carry on anyway.)

For someone who literally has no muscle, he isn't too shabby at getting the cobs off the stalk. He did do this once for some extra money, a long long time ago...]

[She watches everyone work, noting the way Ed simply rips it off, while others have to twist the ears. Thankfully, Shion's here to save the day-it's too hard to pull them off. She's just gonna run all this corn to the basket.

Maybe take a little nibble of one on the way-that was the plan, until Héctor's shake of the head ends that thought. She should probably relay that to the group.]

He says 'no' so we have to cook this stuff.

[Anyway, she's holding out her arms for More Corn. Load her up!!!]

It should be edible. It's not poisonous or harmful. I'm not sure how good it tastes though. [He glances over at Hector. Shion has never seen corn in a field like this before so he is prepared to be wrong. But nothing he knows of this plant tells him they can't eat it.

He piles corn into Ren's arms, once he has the technique it's a lot easier.]

Don't carry too much Ren. Tell us when you need us to pause.

If we have all this field, we can probably try it raw, cooked, however we want it.

[If they can manage such a big field at all. She turns to at Shion's words.]

I can help you carry it if you need help, Ren.

[How about a slightly more elaborate 'explanation', for whoever happens to be looking... he twists off another cob, peels away the husk a little, pretends to bite it, and then makes an overly exaggerated 'yuck' face. No. No eating the husks. Gross. Blech.

But the actual corn--he mimes nibbling that instead, and nods. Thumbs up, go for it!]

[Ed waves off the knife--he's got it in hand after that first attempt. Easy enough to keep pace between the harvesters and the collectors, and he watches the discussion of edibility with faint amusement.]

Right, so the husks are no good for eating at all, then. Seems like they could be useful for something, though. Fibrous enough for it...can you process them into textiles or similar?

[Ed could probably transmute this stuff in batches to convert it into a rough canvas over the course of a week or so, but if there's another use for the husks he's not going monopolize it.]

[The help is much appreciated and when Shion hands her some of the corn, she holds her arms out so Ray can take some of this food burden. They aren't extremely heavy, but it's always nice to get help. There's So Much of this.

And if there were any shred of doubt, Héctor's display gets rid of it. No husks. That's fine.]

A textile?

Ah sorry I misunderstood. [A smile for Hector. Sorry he's still getting used to reading gestures. There is a lot of corn.] Textiles are cloth woven from a mixture of fibres, Ren.
