I Pray for the Ground to Swallow Me Whole
As of November 10th, the mana pools on Ensō and its islets will now allow for travel to the new island of Maati.

Travelers will arrive on a mana pool situated on the E5 square, within the temple of the avatar that dwells here. Their temple is a sturdy thing, built into and around the chestnut trees that thread deeply into its very construction. The symbol of the eagle can be found nearly everywhere one looks.

Three guesses as to what shape the avatar of this land assumes.

[No wonder this bird is surrounded by chestnuts, if they're gonna be that hard a nut to crack. Holy shit how is she supposed to nail good cop here during this hustle I mean conversation, when Taako's just noscoping the dang god right out of the gate?

Lup fails a will save and snorts out her amusement before getting it together and sort of scoldingly cuffing his shoulder.]

What this elf whom I have never seen before in my life is tryna say is-- What's your whole jam? Like, what are you the god of?

[ Anbaki simply absorbs the words before they reply. If they're baffled by the use of slang, they certainly don't show it. ]

I am the god of justice. [ Their tone is entirely neutral; a definition, not to be proud of or to be ashamed of or anything else. ]

...Cool. [Taako doesn't sound like he thinks justice is cool at all, actually. And nice try, Lup. That eagle's probably got eagle eyes, they saw you crack tf up.

Taako really just doesn't find this bird fact to be all that neutral, unfortunately, and that's also in line with his chosen role in this convo.] So uh. How's that one workin out for ya? Are you here to like, install some? [He holds his hands sign-width apart, somehow physically sarcastic.] Watch this space! Coming Soon, Justice! Or maybe, 'Pardon Our Mess?' Guess you can workshop it.

[Predetermined role or not, Lup's not really any more down to clown with the feathery concept of justice than Taako is, and one ear ticks up intently at their introduction. Well, maybe she's a little more likely to like, give them the benefit of the doubt for a hot second? But it's not a real big benefit, tbh.]

Also, you're not gonna trot out the seven deadly sins or whatever, are you? Cuz thing is, we already like, did Justice. And we basically-- I mean we really rocked it. Preeetty sure that's double jeopardy, right? Super-- that's super illegal?

[Wait, she's not supposed to be getting weirdly aggro at them, actually. She throws in a placating, totally sincere smile.] I mean, just so you know. Wouldn't want you to go through all the trouble of judging us when somebody already did your job for ya.

[ Anbaki's response isn't immediately forthcoming. They just absorb the chatter, formulating a response. Their head turns to Taako first. ]

If justice can be so easily installed, then it is not really justice. That change must come from individuals. Outside influence can only present an example to follow as they see fit.

[ Then, they turn to fix that same calm gaze on Lup. ]

I see.

To have been tested on your virtue and risen to the challenge is an admirable achievement. [ To have 'really rocked justice', in whatever form that takes.

Their tone is still entirely neutral, but the words do seem sincere. ]

[Well, joke's on them, Taako has realized he doesn't really know what justice is in the first place. He was kind of thinking it was like an exterior...like an ambiance maybe, but enforceable? Cosmic? Rules and shit, and maybe less bad things happening to people who don't deserve it. How individuals enter into it is a little trickier.

Whatever, their carefully orchestrated maneuver is working, the bird clearly likes Lup kinda maybe, and they maybe also just told him off a little bit. He resists the urge to roll his eyes at both developments.]

Oh no, we failed the virtue test, homie. [He barks a laugh.] We all super died about it. Though, in our defense, I'm pretty sure the test was rigged from the get-go and they just wanted statues of our bodies, which I get.

[Yeah and they would've continued to like her, exactly as planned, if Taako hadn't fucking blown it? Where was all that truth saying when he was dying of fucking Lying Liar Disease? Holy shit. Lup can barely keep from shooting him a disbelieving stare of betrayal, though she does heel him in the ankle repeatedly. Not that that's gonna unsail this ship, it just makes her feel better.]

Super rigged, for sure. Like, pretty sure they were judging us for some wild shit we hadn't even done yet, too? That's not how you do things around here, right?

All things must first exist before they can be judged. It defeats attempts to be fair if assumptions are made.

My purpose is not to judge what might come to pass. Only what has already been. [ If it helps any, they seem settled, at least. Interested. ] The foundations of the past can be pillars or chains, seen from different perspectives.

[Sooooooo, the bird god agrees that that was all bullshit, is what Taako is taking away from all that. Not that it matters, all that shit's waaaay in the past, and Taako doesn't need some justice weirdo's permission to think that plane was a mistake. But like, it's still a little vindication.

Lup can kick him all she wants, that was a smart move and Taako is unhumbled. Justice god hears about injustice specifically regarding justice. Nothing builds bonds like shared outrage. Taako's rolling high tonight.

Shame none of the rest of what they said made much sense. Gods, what can you do.]

And we want pillars, right? Pillars are good? I guess I like pillars. How do we turn our past-- How do we build some pillars and get over it?
