OCTOBER EVENT: FEELING LIKE A GHOST

Who: Anyone and everyone
What: Your past returns to haunt you
When: October 10th and onward
Where: All over!
Warnings: Character death, as well as potential for discussion of trauma and suicide ideation - please mark as you go!

You can find most of the information you need in the OOC info post! In the meantime, feel free to use this log as a catch-all for the duration of the event. While this log will focus on the past portion, you're free to use it for the future portion. As always, you can also make your own logs if that's your preference! Come the 21st, however, we'll likely get an additional log up for those who want to play around with their future echoes as well. Remember also that the present portion will be played out in Mu, during this month's Storytelling.

Remember to let us know if your character dies during this event. Bear in mind, however: death penalties will NOT be reduced for this event.

Event Timeline

[ ♆ ] October 10th: The ghosts of the past appear.
[ ♆ ] October 20th: The warped Storytelling occurs, the Storyteller returns, and those who have died are revived.
[ ♆ ] October 21st: Future echoes replace the ghosts of the past.
[ ♆ ] October 25th: With equilibrium restored, all visions vanish, and life returns to how it was.

[Frustrated by Noct's cruel game of tag, Prompto was feeling more at his wit's end than normal. He patted his pants of as he climbed back up to his feet, glaring Ardyn's way.]

Dude, I don't want to die. Why the hell are you throwing knives around like that! You almost hit him!

[He gestured towards Noct, but something else seemed to catch his attention then. Something Ardyn couldn't see or hear, but Prompto was clearly talking to someone who was supposedly in the area where he had lunged.]

What? No, dude... [And whatever had been said to him was clearly upsetting, as his tone weakened.] Of course I wouldn't. Never. We're trying to find a way to make sure it doesn't happen.

[Ardyn raised an eyebrow, tilting his hat back far enough to follow Prompto's line of sight. Sure enough...nothing, and definitely not Noctis.]

You've not caught on yet, have you?

[So distracted was he that he almost didn't acknowledge Ardyn. It took him a moment to process what had been said. Brows furrowed, he asked.]

Caught onto what?

Do humor me for a moment.

[Ardyn pointed slightly to his left.]

By any chance can you see a man in armor right about there? Can't miss him, he's...oh, seven or so feet tall.

[He suspected it was some sort of trick, but he hesitantly glanced over anyway.]

Umm, are you joking? Pretty sure anyone would notice someone like that. No one's there.

I do hate to be the one to tell you this, but His Majesty is nowhere in sight either.

Dude. Not cool.

[Of course, since when did he expect Ardyn to be cool.
And Noct had the ability to play on that, readily filling him with suggestions that Ardyn was up to his old tricks again. His eyes glanced to the side as he stayed silent for a bit, looking at the other person who wasn't there.]

I'm not sure what you're trying to pull here, but... I know what I see.

[And he would never in a million years think Noct would hurt him, so he didn't think twice about Noct nearly leading him in front of a dagger.]

And neither is Gilgamesh, yet he's standing here all the same. I almost thought you a bit smarter than that.

[Reserved as he was, he wasn't going to take that from Ardyn.]

I'm plenty smart! I've survived this long on the islands, and I'm going to get us electricity in the future!

And yet you're fool enough not to know when something's cast an illusion on you.

Honestly, think for a moment. If I can't see Noct and you can't see Gilgamesh, does that not suggest something may be a bit out of sorts?

[He wrinkled his nose, not wanting to agree with Ardyn. Really, it was a matter of trusting his lying eyes or trusting Ardyn, and normally it would be an easy choice to determine which was telling the truth.]

...How do I know you're not just lying?

What's more likely? That I'm lying, or that your king likely hasn't said so much as a word to me to tell me to be silent? If he has, I certainly haven't heard it.

[He bounced on his heels, folding his arms and glancing away again. He was definitely not Ignis, and needed some time to think out the solutions to these challenges.]

You could pretend to not hear him. Why are you throwing daggers anyway?

Because I was aiming at him.

[He pointed to the empty space where Gilgamesh now stood.]

[He glanced over again even though nothing was there, raising an eyebrow.]

Oookay... Why were you throwing daggers at a 7 foot dude?

[That seemed like he was asking for trouble.]

'Because I want him dead' seems the obvious answer, dear Prompto.

Not a big fan of your spirit friend, then?

The Blademaster and I are not, shall we say, on good terms.

...You mean, is that the guy Gladio fought? And then bragged about all night?

Shield of the Founder King, Gilgamesh, yes.

You could say we've a history.

Wait. He's seriously 7 foot? I thought Gladio was exaggerating.

[That was at least interesting, though Noct was getting agitated at the amount of attention Prompto was giving Ardyn.]

Huh? Yeah, I'll go, just give me a sec.

[He at least wanted to learn a little bit, and he didn't think it would take long.]

What kind of history?

Well, he was about that when I knew him. Might be taller now, where he's probably some undead abomination haunting the Tempering Grounds.

[Ardyn frowned slightly, looking to the empty space as if evaluating it and ignoring anything Gilgamesh might have been saying.]

...The sort not unlike any Shield and their king, save for the part where he carelessly abandoned me. So it's a bit obvious he's not fool enough to come to me now claiming repentance.

[Prompto was the least knowledgeable of lore among the boys. Of course he knew the basics, as would most people when it came to religion and mythology. He knew the Astrals, he knew the basic stories, and despite knowing Noct he only sort of knew things related to the royal bloodlines. It hadn't been what they talked about when they were together. They were a lot more likely to chat about assassins.

And though he kind of knew about Ardyn, it was still bizarre to him. The whole of it hadn't played out for him yet at home.]

So you'd be like... Noct's great, great... how many 'great's? Uncle? Oh Astrals, you're not his dad, are you?

I mean, granddad. Great granddad.

...Uncle would be more accurate. Your dear Chosen is descended from the one they call the Mystic--my little brother Somnus.
